HELP, New to State and Wanting to Buy first firearm
Oh Shoot replied to leprechaun's topic in Handguns
I've never heard of ANY TN FFL that charges a transfer fee for selling a gun from his own stock, even if he has to order it for the customer. None. Zero. - OS -
Doubt that. "Entrapment" works just fine for convictions on every level anymore -- from simple sting of a cop-john propositioning a hooker to FBI agents egging on a wannabe terrorist with fake bomb materials. - OS

That or a chance to argue it in court, depending. - OS -
You'd think they would have expanded a factory or three over there to supply it here in force by now, really, cause they do manufacture it. - OS
-
Speaking of current manufacture 7.62x39 and .223. Couldn't tell ya from which factories exactly, or whether they all are the same, but a smoke whiff of some is sort of half sweet half rotten egg. Or something. Seems more than just one brand though. - OS

Good case to bring up every time someone says "we need more firearm laws!" - OS

HELP, New to State and Wanting to Buy first firearm
Oh Shoot replied to leprechaun's topic in Handguns
Just to be clear to OP: There is no transfer fee to buy from a TN FFL, only the $10 for TICS background check. Transfer fees are charged for guns bought out of state and shipped to FFL for transfer. - OS -
HELP, New to State and Wanting to Buy first firearm
Oh Shoot replied to leprechaun's topic in Handguns
If buying from a FFL in a store, show ID to confirm TN residency, fill out federal form 4473, pay an extra 10 clams for the background check which usually takes 10 min or less, and unless you have a disqualifying event on your record, walk out of store with gun. If buying from an individual, hand him the money and leave with gun. (seller might ask you to see TN driver's license, some won't -- some may ask you if you are legally able to own firearms, some won't - some may even want you to sign bill of sale, most won't). And don't vote for any Dems, locally or federally and don't ever tell anyone how they do things in NY. ;) - OS- 43 replies

Certainly an option, But I thought you wanted real rifle power in the car. Referencing your first question regarding relative loss risk, you can buy a Hi-Point .45 carbine cheaper than the Mec Tec conversion alone, not to mention plus the cost of the Glock itself. AR of course can be too, but not as cheap as the Hi-Point. - OS
-
You can do that with most new ones these days, btw, Not because they're over loose, just more precision machined. - OS

It smell like the Russian stuff or what?

Hell, you don't have to build one, ya know. Watch the sales at PSA and you can get a decent complete lower and upper and stick them together. For less than the price of a used Glock. Just glanced there, complete mid length upper 289.99, complete blem lower 129.99, under $420. Throw an inexpensive rear sight on, shipping + FFL transfer, still well under 5 bills for a serviceable AR, and ain't gonna break your heart or wallet as bad if the worst happens to it like it would your custom pieced together higher end tacticool EOTWAWKI rifle. :) Uppers are free shipping right now, sometimes lowers are too, don't have to get them at same time though, and you can even beat this price. - OS
-
No. They don't even make an (un)reliable one. ;) Since you can slap one together yourself for around $450 by just buying complete uppers and lowers, I don't see how anyone could much undercut that market. Plus, you maintain AR architecture for mix n match, unlike with a proprietary design. - OS
-
So you didn't fire it first to confirm a prob? Does the rail system on lower and slide both look okay? - OS

Those were made with surplus or repurposed parts from military rifles, I believe. And aren't being currently made cause the source for parts was used up. The WASR 10 or 10 GP, whatever, is the current config from Romania, and is made from all new parts. Imported as single stack mag capable, then modified by Century to accept double stack mag and other parts changed to meet 922r compliance. - OS

That's what I've always called them, the VOLES. I've paid my dues, I'm entitled. Plus it's been more descriptive than not especially over the last decade or so. - OS

I decided to take the risk of theft about a year ago and stashed a basic ~ $600 AR pistol in a tennis racquet case behind the seat. Would hurt if stolen of course, but the secure feeling it gives me for accurate rifle caliber firepower to 100 yards or better is worth that level of risk to me. You can of course make that (or a rifle) for even less currently -- I chose pistol cause I can legally carry on person if situation should dictate. - OS

Senate Bill was version that passed -- you're quoting the "preamble", the stated reason for it, not the actual change in statutory language. LexusNexis now updaed, here it is now inserted in TSA 70-8-108: "(e) (1) Notwithstanding subsections (a) and ( B ), it is not an offense for any person to disturb the habitat of, alter, take, attempt to take, possess, or transport a black vulture, also known by the name Coragyps atratus, in this state. (2) No state funds or personnel, or other state resources, may be used to enforce any prohibition against the disturbance of the habitat of, alteration, taking, attempting to take, possession, or transporting of a black vulture. (3) Nothing in this subsection (e) prohibits the agency from using state funds or personnel, or other state resources, to assist landowners in acquiring federal depredation permits for black vultures." (Point 3 was an amendment that passed before final bill passage.) - OS

Well, 35-20 at the half ain't exactly "destruction". I'm sure final score will be more lopsided, but that will be more due to overall stamina by depth of talent of a juggernaut program. Tells me this season will be no cakewalk for the Voles. - OS edit: oopsie, 35-27 in the 3rd. Hmmm... Maybe they should have scheduled UT Nooga instead. ;)

My overall impression also, especially being overall a Ruger rooter. - OS

Says "Reduces blow back and back pressure". The real Krink brakes increase back pressure. How can anything you add to muzzle reduce it? - OS -
His county LE is known for being both lackadaisical and corrupt. Now, I used to live in Union County, had trouble with a famously evil individual there once upon a time, advice I got from the sheriff, "next time he comes out there armed, shoot him, make sure he's dead, drag him over on your property, and then call me personally." Then of course, he said it was only fair to also tell me I'd have to also kill about 4 more of his family unless they got me first. - OS

Looks a bit like the "NO!" cat. ;) To keep things in perspective, I've always thought it fair advice, "If you have a dog who adores you, you should also have a cat who ignores you." - OS
