  1.   TN firearm history being what it is, I truly agree that without the carry permit system, college carry wouldn't ever stand a chance.   Even if we ever do get "Constitutional Carry" (and I put it in quotes because of all the limitations on it that will still exist), I certainly hope we'll follow all the other states (except for VT) and still issue permits, both for reciprocity and hopefully other privileges such as the college carry.   - OS
  2.   Just watched the episode again, and I don't believe there was any intention to suggest that. The group in the vehicle was all pretty much gung ho about the whole thing, and the chatter on the radio ("get out... there's too many! etc) would indicate to me the squad simply ran into more than it could handle.   Or of course you could be right :) -- if so, I imagine we'll hear confirmation at some point.   - OS
  3.   IE was built integrated into OS also, couldn't even remove it at all until lawsuit made them "unbundle" it in XP.  And of course it implemented web codes that weren't part of the standards, and has always had glitches.   So not surprising EDGE has its own set up oddities too.       So try FireFox. Or maybe Chrome. Will indicate is something in just the EDGE part or more basic in the OS.   - OS
  4.   Sound like five, count 'em FIVE,  very good reasons to avoid it to me!   - OS
  5. I've always wondered why I don't see more mention of them being stolen. But since I don't hang around hunting sites much, maybe it's actually pretty common?   - OS
  6.   Then why is you PB 1024 pixels wide in actual form?  (displays as 800px in default TGO view)  What decided to resize to exactly that from the 4900 pixel image you uploaded?   Meaning, I see pix with lots of various widths from PB on here, and they don't show any compression artifacts at all? So without looking around, is 1024 pixel width some maximum size that PB will display as a link or something? Or a choice you make onsite there as to what link to choose according to size or something?   - OS
  7.   I've certainly gotten that sentiment some, Leroy, but in most every case it is due to hypersensitivity of some Christians on board here.   A simple historical fact about the history of the church, a simple metaphysical statement of an alternate point of view, whatever, often gets a cry of "bashing" or "berating".   By that token, I guess I should see any of the many professions of Christian faith here as "bashing" and "berating" my agnosticism, eh?   C'mon.   - OS
  8. [digital imaging pedantry] That does seem due to image compression -- image resizing, if done with effective resampling, will look identical on a given screen to original larger image viewed at same pixel dimensions. Compression on the other hand is the relative quality of the image at a given pixel size with formats that support it, just as JPEG, due to sampling rate and algorithm used. There is a difference in the quality level of the two images you post, and perhaps that is due to the PB's compression, I dunno, as don't know the history of the image. Are you saying you uploaded the same 4900 pixel image to both places and those are the results with link to the full image size? The reason I ask to confirm is because I don't see that level of compression artifacts in the many PB images posted online. Your two images are simply hugely different in actual pixel dimensions. The Mediafire image is some 4900 pixels across and the PhotoBucket one is about 800. And indeed, the 4900 across pixel Mediafire image has been resampled down to same size as the top image by the forum software. And sure, the whole image must be downloaded to display on screen, so larger ones take more bandwidth and time. Here is an example of common lossy image compression taken to extreme, your original Mediafile image resized to the same 800 pixels but also saved with high compression level in PhotoShop. The main thing lossy compression does is throw out more of the gradations of color in the palette, hence the splotchy artifacts in the solid fields and the aberrations where lines intersect and such (I lightened overall image some so that they show better). But one can resize an image so that it looks identical at screen rez to the same lesser pixel size than that of the larger image. If PB can't do that, then it is indeed a flaw in their process somewhere, as even the TGO forum software does a fine job of downsizing large images without any indication of image corruption. I'd experiment some myself, but I don't have an account with any of the online pix services, and don't want to mess with them anyway. For years, I've simply used my webspace on Comcast or my own domain to stash pix. I generally save them at about 1200 pixels across and just let the forums display them at whatever default they choose, and I never see any compression artifacts like any of the above. Btw, Comcast has stated that their free webspace accounts are being nixed, so I guess at some point a lot of my pix will disappear from forums as for whatever reason I've mainly used it for pix (used it for the one above for example), so will have to start using my domain space exclusively I reckon. 9.   :)   The silence is deafening here after dem Hawgs. I figger all the hard core fans are just too close to suicidal to post. :)   - OS
  10.   Not really.  Contrary to some reporting, I'm seeing that due to lawsuit decision, it's allowed on the grounds of public colleges, but only in buildings if permitted by the school.   Few do, and most all of those with limited circumstances -- Umpqua only allows it with written individual permission. Reckon they give anyone that? I dunno.   Private colleges may still ban it entirely, including the grounds.   - OS

  12. When you look, it's called the take down pin detent spring. Same one is used for the front pivot pin. And the little detent itself stayed in there, right? If not, you'll need it also. - OS
  13.   Wolf Gold was involved in that too? If it was same price as the Tula and Aquila, I'd have gone with that.   - OS
  14.   Also, his voting record apparently wasn't notably anti- gun. That somehow became a convenient meme somewhere along the way. NRA gave him A's and B's over his last decade in office.   - OS
  15.   It's a relatively trivial matter to trace from manufacturer/distributor, as they keep good records (or else). And then they know the FFL and also know the time frame, so that it's not a total blunt force search at the FFL. Plus many use software now, which can pull searches up instantly.   Even if a FFL has gone out of biz, the National Tracing Center has both his 4473s and bound book.  About the only real dead end they may run into is an FFL who had a fire (accidental or on purpose), or has actually taken the time to destroy 4473s after the 20 years, but since it actually takes some work to do that, I'd imagine most don't. Plus the bound book must be kept indefinitely.   - OS
  16. All 13 firearms from scene and his home purchased legally through FFL, though possibly sounds like one or more by another family member, according to ATF spokeswoman's somewhat unclear statement. One appears to have been swapped at FFL.   Oregon enacted universal background checks in May of this year, btw.   If you don't know, Sheriff Hanlin there was one who wrote letter to BHO back during the legislation debates after Sandy Hook saying would not enforce new federal gun laws. Was also against the change in Oregon law regarding new background checks, though didn't seem to say wouldn't enforce it. Has also said that his views on gun control have not changed since the shooting.   - OS
  17. Latest from various sources:   "Multiple law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation identified the gunman as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer. Investigators have interviewed members of his family and friends, they said."   "Gunman Identified as Chris Harper Mercer   A law enforcement official has identified the gunman as Chris Harper Mercer, 26, and said he had three weapons, handguns and at least one long gun. It was not clear whether he fired them all. Law enforcement officials said he lived in the Roseburg area, and they said one witness said that he asked about peoples’ religions before he began firing. “He appears to be an angry young man who was very filled with hate,” one law enforcement official said."   - OS
  18.   MSNBC talking head has stated handgun was used, but possibly more than one gun used. We'll see.   - OS
  19.   He's of course gonna speak in a few minutes .. can't imagine what he'll say, eh?   - OS
  20.   I'm guessing that "none" would not have been an out?
