  1. Well, there are kernels of truth in what you say, but Knoxville really ain't bad. Traffic is about same as Nooga...gotta think time of day and where yer goin, like any place of any size anymore. 'Course the lifelong Malfunction Junction here ranks up there with the greatest highway fiasco ANYWHERE. I think crime is actually worse in 'nooga... Some folks actually LIKE Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, there are a lot of old car days there and whatnot. I avoid it like the plague...don't even try to go to Smokies since my 20's, just too crowded. Nice thing about Knoxville is that you CAN get the hell out of it and out to the country pretty easy...except West, the "sprawl" isn't too bad. While it can't compare to 'nooga's downtown renovations, downtown Knox has come a long way, nice combo tween history, funk, and new stuff. Lots of concerts and whatnot happening on Market Square, old World's Fair Site, etc. Regular gun shows at Expo and Fairgrounds. Lots of affordable golf, more so than Nooga in my experience...affordable that is. It's probably actually closer to a tie than anything... - OS
  2. Yeah, saw that in other thread. Bummer, indeed. Apologies for my getting this spread over two threads. I'll shut up about it here. - OS
  3. Well, you know, "holstered". Anyone who might use this on store, whaddy think? Maybe should just say "legally carried firearms" as catchall? - OS
  4. And here, Hero, the one with the second line zapped: PDF file: http://home.comcast.net/~routedriver/pub/GunsOK3.pdf Open Office file: http://home.comcast.net/~routedriver/pub/GunsOK2.odp - OS
  5. Okay, here's version 2, with the SA. The gun pic ain't really up to spec, rez-wise, but it might just barely do. If not, I can try the Colt pic, much higher rez, will be bigger file though also. (files below pic): PDF File: http://home.comcast.net/~routedriver/pub/GunsOK2.pdf Open Office File: http://home.comcast.net/~routedriver/pub/GunsOK2.odp
  6. REALLY quick thinking/finding! Kudos! - OS
  7. It's the only place I CAN legally carry yet - OS
  8. That MIGHT work... Here's a really hirez one I found in Corel Photo CDs...tell me which...or I could try both..
  9. Well, it's just a drawing, not a photo. Hero Gear, if you can find a real photo you like, I'll drop it in... Needs to be about 1200 to 1500 pixels on a side to print at the size of the clipart, though. Otherwise will look pixelated (crummy). I'll keep looking for a better drawing ... I COULD just put up a sillouette, like in the orig. example, probably have a bunch of those somewhere. - OS
  10. Invalid file...dunno what that's about.. - OS
  11. I thought that WAS a 1911 ! Heck, clip art package I was using, dunno if SW was even making them then. I'll have to look and see what I can find. The link you put in the other post goes to some Asian site, didn't see any gun pix there at all... It would have to be pretty big as a JPEG to hold up to printing at that size. Looks good on screen, but prints crummy unless enough pixels. - OS
  12. Just need a better graphic to hold up. Vector drawing rather than raster. Heck, I might try to knock one out for ya...back inna while... - OS
  13. That does not surprise me somehow. - OS
  14. Oh yeah, I HAD already read that, sorry. Didn't make the person/thread connection, duh. Well, though, you have not actually received anything from DOS regarding suspending your permit, though, right? I suppose this brings up a ticklish legal question, eh? Like, are you legal to carry if permit not suspended? Or are you expected NOT to carry on your own volition by virtue of knowledge of the OP? (I'm afraid I haven't even stayed at a Holiday Express recently, so I certainly wouldn't offer an opinion). - OS
  15. Speed scams like this were very common all over US, seemingly more so in the south. I got involved with a nasty one in Scottsville, KY when I was an erstwhile trucker, about 1972 or 73 maybe. Was a mover, delivering a load directly to home, 2am on a Sunday morning on a tiny road near town, gonna find house and park nearby somewhere and sleep a while and then deliver later in the day. Long story, but got pulled over for "reckless driving" (at about 20mph, had to go down middle of road to keep mirrors from hitting trees on either side). Long story, but Da Judge comes in at 5 am, on Sunday morning, in hunter's garb! to see what his gendarmes have brought in during the night Wound up having jail hospitality for a couple days till I could have fine money wired to me, as was traveling light on cash. It's was pretty obvious that most (maybe none) of that fine wasn't going into the public coffers. Wouldn't take a check, of course. I'd say there still is some of this going on in small areas, like where a single constable/sheriff operates, not really directly much accountable to anyone else. - OS
  16. Wow. Still. A daughter of local Benton LEO of some sort was one of my Mom's friends growing up. She said that her father was going to pay for her college from the bucks he got on weekend speed traps (which he pocketed). You know the scam. Back when that was a main route long before Interstate, you'd have all these folks trying to get wherever back north from FL on weekend. Get stopped, and "well, we can hold your car and you can wait and see the judge on Monday, or...you could just pay fine in cash and go on your way"... - OS
  17. Just unbelievable, isn't it? Ya know, some states, you can check status online. Those are the ones that don't use DOS 2.0 any more. I'd be amazed if ANY state takes longer than TN to issue, except for a few of the "may issue" ones, where to have to go to court or whatever. Of course, hardly ANY process works correctly any more. I did 5 year NRA thing, through the website addy that gives you a free multi-tool. No big deal, but that WAS part of the deal. Never having received it, called the other day: somehow, it wasn't ordered. Supposed to send me the tool and a hat for the error. Like everything anymore, I believe it when I see it, and even then I look twice. - OS
  18. Well, now that you baited us, please tell? - OS
  19. Sigh...Yes, that's totally incorrect info, can assure you. This after yesterday, when Ms. Knight called me and told me personally that the lady who was giving out the "90+90" day "window" info to several folks, was incorrect, and that she was a part-time employee, who now doesn't work there. Ms. Knight assured me that staff had been updated on correct policy. And she confirmed that the start date on mine was indeed 6/9/08 (the day I applied and was fingerprinted). Those are the only clear explanations coming from our conversation. I still don't have even an estimated issue date, no clear cut reason why, etc. Obviously, the phone info situation hasn't really improved at all. I'm fully expecting mine to take more effort on my part, now that I've rocked the boat, even though I didn't do it in a nasty way. If I ever get it, I'll update the whole sorry saga. -OS
  20. Why on earth? I was born in 'nooga, mom still lives there, get down there every month or so. But MUCH prefer Knoxville area myself, hence why I've lived here since the sixties. - OS
  21. For the TRULY PARANOID , note that it is claimed that de gummit can futz with GPS data, encoding it to be erroneous or unusable for normal citizen, to be used in case of a citizen uprising or some such. - OS
  22. Can only tell you I have about 500 rounds through PM9 now, and except for one or two failures of slide to completely return to battery in the first 50 rounds or so, has been rock solid (and just a quick tap of the slide corrected those). Chance I limp wristed on those, too; then again, conventional wisdom (and Kahr instructions) are to go through 200 rounds before even considering that there might be a prob. Have shot mostly Winchester White Box, but also while settling in on a defensive load, 50 Remington JHP, 40 Federal HydaShok, and now 75 Golden Saber which I guess I'll carry. All flawless. Have left gun loaded, one in pipe, second mag loaded, for 3 weeks carrying around house; gun fired from that condition at range, flawless. It seems to be about as accurate as any other handgun I've ever owned (but make no claims to be a particularly good marksman). Gonna use in pocket in StellarRigs gizmo, 25oz with second mag in a 6x4.5x1" package (including the holster) is certainly conducive to ALWAYS being armed. Only "drawback" is starting with "only" 7 shots, but everything in the self-defense equation involves some sort of trade off between all the possible variables. If you were ONLY looking for a target piece, this isn't best choice, of course; no 3" barrel would be. - OS
  23. Why bother? At least you CAN carry, indefinitely until they get a round tuit. - OS
