And I had to wait 30 min after eating before I could shoot it, too! - OS

Things are more like they've ever been before! But you're right, sometimes ya just don't know, ya know? - OS

My first gun, 12th Christmas, 1960. Production ended in '54, so must have been used, but I remember it being shiny new Model 121 Remington Fieldmaster Still shoots great. You can mix .22 short, long, LR, any ole way, will fire them all off quick as you can pump. - OS

Reread. He didn't say that he didn't KNOW them... - OS

Wow, you have a SA EMP 9mm for sale? - OS

Yep, almost did that myself...I'm sure it would work fine. - OS

Me too. Oops, actually they weren't reruns when I watched them ! - OS

Yah, this "Element K2" light has the rear push button. Can also unscrew and change batteries without removing from gun. 'Course, have to take it off to breakdown/clean gun anyway... Got two of these lights in a pac at Sam's for about $25; noticed they still were selling them as of 10 days or so ago...I forget how many lumens it claimed, but is plenty bright for ME to see, and from 15' and in it's bright enough to dazzle you pretty good looking right into it, really lose most vision for 5-10 sec afterward so that's potentially a good thing, too. - OS

Yeah, I did similar on my 870, but wanted light on mag extender, not barrel: The stock barrel/mag stabilizer with sling swivel wouldn't still fit (goes where you see the indent in mag), so had to use a second clamp I found on eBay I think which also had a sling swivel. Probably could have just not used anything there, since I don't use a sling any, but wanted them good and stable. Light is an LED from Sam's. I admit I haven't fired it yet since adding to see if will be durable enough, but assuming it will. - OS

HCP question about colleges
Oh Shoot replied to orientalexpress's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I found no AG opinion on anything this specific with a search. MY opinion (and I'd wager the majority one here also) is that the gun and the ammo should be as "separated as possible", regardless of the safe being involved. Gun in passenger area, ammo in trunk. If no trunk (pickup or van), gun in locked safe, ammo elsewhere behind seat, not in the safe. Pretty much same advice for national parks, so far. I'm not sure a lawyer could give better advice. The likelihood of being charged given any given combination of your gun/ammo "separation" will be determined by the LEO. But best to have shown at least a "most separated as possible" effort, even if he's an ahole and charges you anyway. The reason I'm even involved with this thread to the extent I am, is that I me my own self was charged with going armed about 15 years ago. The situation in brief was: I had just picked up a Ruger revolver from my ex inlaws. Hadn't even seen the gun in a couple of years, had left it with my exwife until the day she didn't need it for protection out in the country anymore. They gave me the gun back with a bunch of other odds and ends stuff, some unclaimed xmas presents, clothes, towels, etc. About 5 bags full of stuff. All in the back seat. The gun was unloaded, maybe 20 .357 shells in a small Whitman's candy box. The shells and the gun were not even in the same bag. I didn't even think a thing about it. Traffic stop minutes from leaving their home, suspicion of DUI, one thing led to another, car search, charged with going armed also. The going armed charge was thrown out by judge on first hearing in two minutes flat. And I never got the Ruger back. (long story). Of course, even though it's probably not technically pertinent as a defense to the "on campus" statutes, having a carry permit might mitigate the circumstances, too, if the worst happened. - OS -
I'm carrying Cold Steel Recon 1. 'Bout $52 new on eBay several months ago. Seller tim_hardware, Mississippi hardware store guy, Cold Steel dealer. Just looked, he has more, and SOG and lots of other brands. 4" TN legal. You really could shave with it. Hellava knife. Scares ME lookin at it! - OS

If you had in puter when you decided to do it, there are proggies (even freeware) that write several layers of 1/0's over it so that even NSA couldn't recover from it. Physically, you should be able take the two levels of covers off with allen or star screws and get to actual platters. A little hammer work on them will do for everything short of a full double naught 7 NSA/CIA attack. Of course, even if you have unseen Grassy Knoll footage or secrets of how the CIA unleashed AIDS, just a trip to the local landfill in your garbage is 99.999% effective. Unless you are already under surveillance :-) - OS

HCP question about colleges
Oh Shoot replied to orientalexpress's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don't think you need to be a lawyer. "intent to go armed" is simply any situation where an adult possesses a gun unlawfully -- pretty much has to be on one's person or in one's vehicle. (I can't think of any other place one can unlawfully possess a weapon with intent to go armed, but maybe there is one -- luggage, maybe). It does not require a premeditated "intent to harm a particular person" to be a violation. Although it is not spelled out anywhere specifically, the weapon seems to need to be either loaded, or ammunition "in close proximity" ("firearm readily accessible for use" is another definition I've seen); but you can probably still be charged with "unlawful possession" for concealing an unloaded firearm with no ammo on your person. 'Course, you can be CHARGED with damn near anything. A lawyer friend of mine has handled several DUI cases where the guy blew LESS than the legal limit, but was charged anyway. - OS -
Okay, stopped in there today during errands. Reason I haven't really noticed it, this place has for many years been an antique store, one of those that rents the spaces to dealers, forget the name of it. West End Pawn was just a tiny hole in the wall next to it; now West End has the whole shebang. So I talked to the firearm guy for a while. Turns out West End took this over last October, can't believe I hadn't noticed. Anyway, he said something to the effect that "since they are within so many feet of the school, then..." I didn't debate the issue, just casually mentioned that I didn't think that was right, or he couldn't be SELLING guns in there either, that I thought he had his firearms/alcohol laws mixed up... Anyway, very few handguns, and most of them were new Cobra Derringers and .380 autos (150-200 bucks), and a couple of new Keltec PF9's ($230 best I remember) which they sell as dealer status, I guess. Oh yeah, and a couple of new HighPoints (175). Had one spiffy looking Kimber for $700. Only a couple of other used guns. 6 or 8 rifles in background, dunno what, too far away and I don't recognize many rifles; one was some partially tricked out tac rifle of some sort. Guy isn't doing FTL tranfer services "yet" because of some "computer glitch" they haven't worked out... All in all, only somewhat overpriced stuff, not nearly as bad as Charlie's used to be, as far as TV/audio stuff, some fishing, golf stuff. But not nearly the handgun selection that Charlie's had (I've never been to Charlie's new location). So, as far as the "school zone" gun ban sign (which is just a sticker), somebody must have given him some bogus legal advice, unless there's some statue somewhere I don't know about. - OS

Oh, sorry, didn't understand, thought you were doing it by hand racking. Yeah, polishing the feed ramp is about all you can probably do yourself. Again, although mine has eaten every HP I've fed it, have you tried DIFFERENT types of HP's? Which one is the prob? Some guns don't like the 147 grain 9mm; I've never tried that. One other thought...does it do this with all magazines you have? Make sure mag follower isn't broken or out of whack; could be tilting the shell at bad angle. - OS
-
Actually, been using it since 2000 and I did NOT know that, but looking at their TOS I see you are right. Guess you have to be VERY discreet about item bought/sold; BUT then if there's a prob and you have to do a dispute or credit card reversal, the truth would have to come out. So, thanks for the info and I RETRACT my previous advice; oops. - OS

They are just bot fly larva (horsefly/deer fly/others) where the fly bit the squirrel and deposited egg. While they look gross, they are only under the skin, not actually in the meat. I assure you the "wolves" won't affect the taste. - OS

I hunted doves off and on for maybe 10 years in my youth. I'm an apartment townie currently; got bird feeders on back veranda and I've had more doves than I ever even SAW in my years of hunting them right here over last few years. I figger if times get hard enough I can just cull them. They are so close, I think I can do eye shots with BB gun. - OS

Probably won't, but might, at least eventually. They went from "lifetime" warranty to 5 year warranty some time back. I'm sure they can tell about when it was first sold by serial # if they want to... - OS

This is actually perfectly normal. Kahr recommends that first round always be chambered from lock back position with slide stop release. These little guys are wound so tight with close tolerances, that hand racking can be unreliable, especially during first few hundred rounds. This method is recommended in your manual, btw. If you search, you'll find this a common question on several gun forums re Kahr, like the "Kahr Club" section on glocktalk.com. Which ammo? I have about 500 rounds through my PM9, and have only ever had a couple of failures to return to battery; but those were in the first 50 rounds or so. While I shoot WWB predominantly at range, my Kahr likes Federal Hydroshok, Remington JHP, some kind of Corbon JHP, and my decided on for now carry ammo, the Golden Saber +p. I've shot quite a bit of this through the pipe. So, after cleaning, I lock slide back, pop in mag, release slide to chamber first round, take mag out, replace the round so I'm filled up. And of course between mags, it's no prob, as slide locks back on empty anyway, ready for 'nother mag and pop the first round in with slide stop release. Polishing the feed ramp might help some, but I've never fooled with it. I just use the recommended method, never had first prob with that first round. A few times in the last hundred rounds or so, I've chambered the first one in manually. Had one out of 3 or 4 hang. You have to really make sure slide comes all the way back and you absolutely RELEASE it all at once so that full spring power is used. But all in all, I'm quite content using the recommended method. If you are concerned because you don't carry a round in the pipe, well, that's a whole 'nother issue, and I'll have an opinion on THAT, yesiree :-) - OS

Welcome, sigma... - OS

Yeah, but it's not storage in the sense of the original thread. They are just distribution holding tanks...same fuel isn't in there long. - OS

.38 Cobra Derringer Wear around neck .. you'll never get "made" as carrying. Pops out of the kydex holder. Won't be any question about it being self defense, 'cause you probably won't hit anything beyond 10' anyway. I know, I have one (the derringer, not the holster). - OS
