Cody, why don't you either fix or drop that link in your sig? - OS

After you get a job, those two, plus: "Take your coat off and loosen your tie, we want this next client to see us as more laid back..."... (I have been in a sit like that before)... OS

You find the place to shoot, we'll prolly come. - OS

What's happened to that N Gawga/Nooga gathering that I've seen listed here some? I thought I'd try to time a visit to Mom down there with one and meet some of y'all, but looks like it went poof. - OS

Remember, there's a "third" finish. The Black Stuff. Tennifer on Glock, Melonite on Springfield (which are mostly same thing), Kahr has Black Stuff option forget what they call it, etc. - OS

Yep, and you can have non resident permits from more than one state, too. You have to carefully consider where you travel to consider your best options, though...for example, FL, VA, WVA, OH, don't honor IN permit, all common places traveled by many Tennesseans. The TN permit seems to be as widely honored US wide as any, although I'm sure there are specific states' permits that would benefit any given individual who needs to spend time there, but doesn't honor TN's permit. - OS

Non-permanent Resident Gun Ownership in TN

Dunno why I got interested in this, but I did: Ya know, it really DOES look like you could purchase firearms if you have a TN hunting license. Notice it makes no distinction between long guns and hand guns. From federal FOPA: (who cannot purchase firearms): "Any alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States or an alien admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa. The exception is if the nonimmigrant is in possession of a valid hunting license issued by a US state." Now, to get a TN hunting license, there are more hoops to jump through, including residency/intent to stay, school enrollment, AND a social security number. From TWRA: ------ "Resident Licenses Resident licenses can be purchased by: Persons who possess a valid Tennessee driver's license. Persons who have lived in Tennessee for 90 consecutive days with the genuine intent of making Tennessee their permanent home. Military personnel on active duty in this state and their immediate families, who reside with them, regardless of resident status. Students who are enrolled in a Tennessee school, college, or university for at least six months. NOTE: A Social Security Number is required to purchase a Tennessee hunting and fishing license." -------- Okay, enough attorney impersonation for me, out of the discussion. - OS -
Non-permanent Resident Gun Ownership in TN

The HCP is probably a no-go, as you say. Law says: "any resident of Tennessee who is a United States citizen or permanent lawful resident". I'm assuming that the single word "permanent" will disqualify you, but don't take just MY word for it. As for as simply buying a firearm, I couldn't find anything with the same language. Obviously, some of the retail dealers on here will chime in on this, as I'm sure all of them will know. Hang tight and I'm sure some will respond. - OS -
June 30 is annual renewal, so you'd still get 9 months for the $30, reason I went ahead and did it. If you just go 3 or 4 times in a year, it's pretty much worth it, unless you have land you can shoot on for free. If you do the year, you get the keep key, just go and shoot. You don't even have to turn the key back in if you don't renew...they change the lock every year - OS

Btw, Cody and I shot this at the last gathering at Norris, accuracy seems quite good just the way it is... Holds 14 LR, or 15 if you wanted to go cocked and locked. - OS

People have called me that, too. Since it's so much better than what they usually call me, I've always taken it as a compliment! - OS

Well, the laws states "That the applicant is not currently subject to any order of protection" so if they have really expired, should be no problem. So if it has really expired and there are no other disqualifying factoids in his history, I'd say just have him go through the normal process. Worst case, some database kicks him out and his has to show documentation that the last order was indeed ended. At least one other member here has had to show documentation for some past boo boo or other that some database coughed up. - OS

Well, that sounds authoratative, but I still have my doubts...read somewhere on the Suarez board that they carry Sigs in .357 sig with Speer Gold Dots. Some of those guys oughtta know. For sure, at least some of the pilots are issued HK .40's; the guy that had the AD in the cockpit had that, and was widely reported, but no indication of which ammo. Hey, Randy Harris, do you know? (I'll try to remember to PM him if he doesn't see this). - OS
-
I can't find any definitive verification of this...the US AM program did indeed use Glaser way back when, but according to many reports they have switched to normal hollowpoint rounds a good long while ago, in .357 sig. I've seen Speer Gold Dot claimed as the current ammo. Almost all the info I could find are on various forums, people who claim to have "trained" or "trained with" FAM's. Also, different countries use different ammo/weapons. It's interesting that Glaser no longer claims that FAM's use their ammo, so I'd assume if they did, Glaser would tout that. - OS

Not by the defenders themselves. - OS

I don't see a way TO "post an attachment" here ?? You can link to your own photo gallery here on site, or like many do, link to a freebie photo hosting site, or even better, you're on webspace with whatever ISP you're using. - OS

Not 1% of people with handguns have ever shot an intruder in their homes. "Experience" in this context is not relevant. The idea is, if the worst happens, to stop the threat, period. If the primary threat is not stopped, everyone in that household is in much more danger than the odds of being struck by a defender's errant rounds. I wish anyone using frangible ammo the very best of luck should the worst happen. They'll need it. - OS
-
Frangible ammo is crap. Even the sky marshal program gave up on it even though it seemed logical for use in an airplane "on paper". You seem to think that a "beginning" shooter should be less protected than an "advanced" shooter. Frangible ammo for self defense is likely to make either one a "dead" shooter. - OS
-
Both of you should put minimum 200 rounds through it. And make sure say, 100 of what you choose for your SD ammo; assuming you choose one of the top 10, that 100 rounds will cost you $60-80 bucks right there, but you want to know that the gun likes them, eh? - OS
