  1. Reciprocity figures mainly in moving form one state to another, or working therein. Say you move to TN from a state with which TN has reciprocity. You are required to get a TN permit within 6 months, but: "Such person will be processed as a renewal applicant if the eligibility requirements of the other state are substantially similar to the eligibility requirements of Tennessee" The "substantially similar" states are the ones with which TN has done reciprocity. Saves having to do the whole HCP process from scratch as a newbie (and saves money). Also, you are exempt from one of the "working in TN" rules, which is: "A person who is employed in this state for at least thirty (30) hours a week for six (6) consecutive months is required to obtain a Tennessee handgun carry permit within six (6) months from the last day of the sixth month of regular employment in Tennessee." (number 5) "The above number 5 will not apply if the state of residence of the person employed in Tennessee has entered into a reciprocity agreement with Tennessee." For simply carrying in another state, "reciprocity" and "recognition" have no practical differences. - OS
  2. From S&W site, this is no lock 642, if that's what you mean. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=82463&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15704&isFirearm=Y The "with locks" are on same section, but they don't show the lock side I don't think. It's just appears as a small hole above the cylinder release button. - OS .
  3. See other thread. Is is a FELONY if you are caught carrying there and you are prosecuted. - OS
  4. Which horse? Lisa? It's always some story. The point is, background checks or not completed, the law says they must issue within 90 days. And they always will (when 90 days has passed) when you make noise to the DOS commissioner's office, regardless of what's "completed" and what's not. Of course, this often puts it past the 90 days, which is a violation of TCA. But who's gonna prosecute who? (and there's no penalty stipulated anyway). - OS
  5. There seems little reason to believe that. - OS
  6. Good post. Yeah, that's about right, and really, is close to the same with any length barrel at that distance. I've read several places about a Federal 00 load that is even significantly tighter...something to do with way the pellets are contained, or spun out, or something, forget what shell is called. And YEAH, 3 inchers THUMP, betcher ass! I've never shot a 3.5", don't care too either (my 870 ain't chambered for em anyway). And you are right, there is a common misconception among folks who keep a shottie around for HD, but really don't shoot, that the thing will carpet bomb over a wide area. - OS
  7. It has been known to lock up during firing, rending gun unusable. Some pretty well documented cases, many that may just be hearsay. Hard to know for sure. Also, seems that SW may have some sort of modification to the lock after a certain time. I think it's safe to say it was/is a very rare occurrence, and as I mentioned in OP, is likely more of a psychological thing than practical concern. - OS
  8. Had lumbar disc laminectomy when I was about 24, hasn't slowed me down too much, be of good cheer. You're probably on opiates of some ilk, try to force fluids (if you drink alcohol, use as much water as you can instead of beer, or hard liquor with lots of water - of course you're not supposed to mix dope and alcohol, yeah right). Morphine derivatives can really dehydrate/constipate you and you do NOT want to add pain by straining on the throne. (prolly TMI I know) - OS
  9. Fact that they are selling no-lock wheelies again might help. - OS
  10. Yep, you are displaying more pixels into same spatial dimension. Physics. - OS
  11. Don't take THAT to Thompson-Boling either!! - OS
  12. Guys, it's on UT campus. You are risking a felony. - OS
  13. Depends on monitor and video card. I have about a 5 year old 19" Samsung CRT and nVidia card. I can indeed set it for 1600 x 900 pixels. If you don't see the setting as a choice, then you can't, unless there are updated drivers for your video adapter that allow some new resolutions. AND, your monitor has to be capable of that rez also. - OS
  14. Haven't seen it mentioned here, but S&W has added no-lock 642 and 442 wheelies to their regular lineup. I know that's a big deal to some, and really, if I was gonna buy one, I wouldn't want the lock either. Just the nagging thought that it could lock up, rational or not. - OS
  15. I'd hate to BE a varmint up your way! - OS
  16. Relic from P4 days. (Past Profound Promiscuity Periods) - OS
  17. David Bullard http://www.dmbullardleather.com/ Even though these are custom molded/boned for the exact gun, he seems to keep a good stock for popular guns, as he does a lot of Texas gun shows. None of the three I've gotten from him have taken over a week from order to in hand. Even bought one off eBay, where he has a presence also. Besides nice quality, pretty nifty design. You can use it as seen, or put the hooks out of the slots on the outside with a spacer to tuck. You can even reverse them in the slots and wear it OWB if you get a wild hair. Only two slots for height/cant, but there's already more than 15 degree cant built in. I just got a couple of kydex hooks from Comp-Tac, with more holes, thought I'd play around even a little more with it. While compact, this is a thick sucker, like Glock 26, and exact depth/cant/hip placement is more important than the identical models I have for Ruger SP101 and Kahr PM9. I may well even nix the Pearce extension; even though I shaved it down, it still tends to make a "point" on back of shirt in my sweet spot. I'm pretty spoiled carrying the Kahr in the Bullard or in pocket, really like to go as totally concealed as possible. - OS
  18. Oldest police exam story: Examiner: "You are being chased by a carload of thugs doing 70 miles per hour. What would you do?" Applicant: "80" - OS
  19. Somehow, this loon never got on my radar. Was just looking at him on Wikipedia and one of his blog sites. Wow... - OS
  20. Well, heck, with such a celebrity endorsement like that, I'm convinced to get one! - OS
  21. Well, good on you, impressive! How 'bout tweaking Windows Vista a little in your spare time so that it runs well on something less than a Cray? - OS
  22. Actually, Jeffssig, you had ALREADY bought an LCP back in July, yes? Did yer better half not like the Kahr? - OS
  23. I think that's really quite an intelligent explanation. I left your entire quote in for emphasis. Kudos. - OS
  24. I see. Should slaves still count as property? I mean, they used to be worth 3/5 of a real person for enumeration purposes. - OS
