  1. Well remember, besides craftsmanship/durability, the main thing with gunbelts is thickness. TheBeltMan's for example, are almost 1/4" thick (2 layers). And you can get a kydex stiffener even added in the middle of that if you want, although he states it's seldom necessary for the 1.5" and wider belts, unless you need a full duty type. - OS
  2. Freightliner or International? Do Peterbilts suck? - OS
  3. I used to know a couple of stores that did custom leather and could recommend, but no longer in biz. Not enough folks wanting the best, especially gun leather class, to support them. Matter of fact, surely there is a custom leather maker or two still in the area, but I don't know who? There are several leather stores in Pigeon Forge (Outback, Rocky Top, Stages West), and you might find a suitable belt there (especially Outback's second store at Old Mill - caters more to bikers), but note that they are not custom made onsite (and probably not even US made either). And of course, generally overpriced, because they are in Pigeon Forge. - OS
  4. True, but that was just one of several I've read, first one I quickly found a link to. Find the Guns and Ammo one, they did some rather bizarre ones too, like throwing off cliffs and whatnot. Totally agree...hey, there is NO doubt that a Glock is as durable and reliable a shooter that exists. I may even own one at some point. For a good while, I had narrowed down my last choice between new gun to Glock 26 or XD SC 9. Chose the XD cause: - Glock aims high for me (and many other folks) and I've been working on point shooting. (Although the Glock hits just as well as my XD using sights.) - XD has both the loaded chamber indicator AND cocked indicator, both visual and tactile. A small point, just nifty - I find something more aesthetically pleasing about the XD SC shape; although many would call both guns somewhat ugly:) - The biggest: I really am comforted by the XD grip safety. I wouldn't want an actual manual safety, but the grip safety is totally unobtrusive. And gives me that extra little edge, mainly when reholstering; no worries about the minuscule chance of shirt or anything getting inside the trigger guard to cause ND, long as I don't press that grip safety down, I've got extra safety edge. - OS
  5. Several similar tests have been done on XD, also. Here's just one: http://springfield-armory.primediaoutdoors.com/SPstory11.php Also, Guns and Ammo did one on XD; did the 1,000 round quickie AFTER firing 15K rounds or better and AFTER torture tests. And unlike what's his name's 1000 round test, the XD didn't melt and spit out the guide rod like the Glock did! (edit: Chuck Yeager, couldn't come up with it at the time) - OS

    Hand-me-downs

Y'know, if it locks up good on a round and you don't see and cracks in metal or anything, well, I'd probably just shoot it, but since you already hang out at Coal Creek...introduce youself to Jonathon there and see if he'll get one of the boys in the back to take a quick look...you can shoot it there too you know? - OS
  11. Correctamundo. And, did they jack the regular price to begin with? - OS
  12. However, they can order them. See Walmart online for the models carried. - OS
  13. I never intimated that anyone there wasn't "nice". Even the temp gal who gave me the erroneous "might take 180 days" info was nice about delivering her disinformation. Just a boondoggle. Exact number of permits seems hard to document, but seems to be at least 50,000 per year last 3 years. At 115 clams per pop, that's approaching $6M/year. Seems they might hire a couple of folks and upgrade the puter system just a little. Or maybe those folks are the highest salaried workers in the state! - OS
  14. Talkin' to moi? I have 2 ten rounders and two 16 rounders. Don't really need more don't reckon, might take them really cheap just for helluvit for range use, though, PM me with price. They have the plastic sleeve on bottom on them? I'd say if you put them on the Member Classifieds for a fair price you'd have no trouble selling them, especially since no problem to mail. Just for reference, I bought mine from CTD for $25 and $34. Midway has them for about 5 bucks less each, but there was other stuff from CTD I wanted that Midway didn't sell, plus I had a $10 off discount number. - OS

I only have couple hundred rounds through new XD SC9, but trigger so far is fine for me on mine. Dry fired a bunch to find where it tightens just before break and that's consistent, reset for the shorter travel ensuing shots consistent. But I'm not a competition shooter, and consider my marksman ship as "adequate" only. I've ordered a stick on grips off eBay (TractionGrips) to try out. I have Decal Grips on my Kahr, love em, but they peeled right off after a cleaning. Supposed to be impervious to solvent, but some must have got under the sticky or something. They sent me another set, we'll see. Well, technically, it's 19.97 + .10 ammo fee + tax Next time you are there, for the last couple months, the Blazer Brass (in 50 count boxes) has been the absolute cheapest, a little more than a whole penny per shell cheaper, whoopee It's no dirtier than the WWB. Winchester UMC in the 500 case has been same price at Dick's as WWB at Wally's, but of course it's just as dirty too. I've not found anything cheaper, even online (Wolf, Brown Bear, etc) even buying by the 1000 pack once you figure shipping. Maybe if you bought 5000 at a time you might save a few scheckels, but not alot. - OS
  16. That's where you can also print a biz card size with all the states that honor a given state's permit. Tennessee's is : http://legallyarmed.com/resources/tennesseecard1.pdf - OS

  18. Welcome to TGO from a Knoxville feller... The Norris Range is pretty funky, but the price is right. $30 a year good through June 30, or $15/trip.. You get a key, just go to the range, unlock the gate, and start shootin. It's about 20 or more miles from campus. For pistols, just a big wooden backstop for your targets, two or three folks can shoot at a time. The rifle range is better, has about 7 positions, with tables, roof. Couple hundred yards or so. Actually, you can shoot pistols there too; there's no supervision, so BE CAREFUL. Closer is the TWRA range, only about 10 miles north of campus. It's a bench range (you actually have to sit down) but the price is only about $5 for each 2 hours: I think you can "join" it also for a yearly fee. It is supervised, quite strict, but quite safe. http://www.twraregion4.org/TWRAHunterED/TWRAJohnSevierRangeEdCenter.htm Hope this helps some. Hollar at me if you want to go out to the Norris range sometime (or the TWRA one) I might go (retired, so around in daytime). Weekdays are best out there, not as many around. You have to stop at Norris Police dept and pay for the one time and put down key deposit and turn it back in or, best deal, if you just go 3 times or so is the $30, plus you don't have to turn the key back in, they change the lock yearly. - OS
  19. Do you live in Bell Buckle? Is the constable named Fife? Does he have more than one bullet in his shirt pocket? - OS
