  1. It doesn't matter who is prez. The population/resources has tipped to the point that an inevitable world wide slide has begun. It's really an environmental problem, but will be translated as an economic one. The present financial mess may or may not be the beginning of Truly Bad Times, but that is the way it will happen eventually. - OS
  2. Yow. Was thinking about dropping by. Talk about bait and switch! Abailey ain't gonna be all that happy when he shows up, though. - OS

  4. Yep. Have old H&R pistol, shoots any .22 cartridge. Also old Remington pump rifle, can even mix short, long, long rifle, handles them all fine. - OS

Well, it's possible it is an alloy, I don't know exactly how to know. Gun is small, about 90% size of Ruger SP101, weighs 15.5 oz unloaded, while the Ruger weighs 25.3 oz unloaded. That's almost 10 oz diff, so I guess that would suggest that the Charter is indeed some sort of alloy. See pic below for size comparison to Ruger SP101 and also the Charter in Ruger sized Nemesis for pocket carry, very handy. I don't know when +p loads even began to be made, but I'm pretty sure this predates them. Then again, I've read that standard loads in the 50's-70's used to be hotter than they are now, dunno. I've shot a few +p's through this ole baby, handles them okay, but of course pretty hard to hold onto with them. But I seemed to hear the gun saying, "gimme a break" when I did Lot of folks think you shouldn't put a steady diet of +p through the modern Charter Arms revolvers either, even though they are all rated for them. Matter of fact, I had trouble finding a hollow point NON +p round to even put into a .38 for pocket carry. Finally ordered some Hornady 158 grain XTP JHP just for this gun. To the 10 yards or so you mention, I seem to be about as accurate with this as with the Ruger (but I'm a so so shot in general); its main shooting drawback is the small grip, easy for it to slip in your hand a little on concussion. But didn't want to change it since it's so highly concealable the way it is. - OS

    Ruger LCP Recall

All modern double action revolvers use a little area of metal over the firing pin; the hammer contacts this piece of metal which presses the firing pin. This "bar" only is in place when the cylindered round and trigger are in full sync, ready to fire. The bar is NOT in place at other times over firing pin, so that if dropped, nothing can push against the firing pin. Unless you have a fully enclosed hammer model you can look down under hammer and see the "bar" come up in place over the rounded aft end of the firing pin. Many single action revolvers like "cowboy" guns, and old revolvers (pre 1960's) in general, a projection on the hammer IS the firing pin, and if down on a live round could fire the round in the chamber if dropped. - OS

    Ruger LCP Recall

I thought it was a known "feature"; no firing pin block. Seen it discussed a lot on defensivecarry and other forums. Supposedly has to be dropped from higher height than a person's hand, so wasn't considered much of an issue. The LCP manual DOES state that it can fire if dropped, eh? - OS

Probably looks like this one of mine. This is from the 60's. The "Undercover" has been made in all 3 or 4 of Charter's "incarnations", beginning in 1964 or so. I don't really want to sell this, but they aren't worth but a couple hundred or so, I'm told. The older ones are really nice pistolas, but I don't shoot +p through it. - OS
  16. Little thread on BearClaw on defensivecarry and another forum I read somewhere..apparently just totally belly up, no communication, burned folks past a certain date, just like with you. - OS

  18. Even though my last job entailed beau coup physical effort, and not many folks my age could even do it (FedEx Ground contractor), it wasn't crap for cardio, and after about 4 months of retirement goofing off (and not even walking many golf courses) I found myself after a checkup with all the bad signs of inactivity.... Since I have squirrely back and some other aches I need to look into, I just started (fast) walking, about 3.75 mi/hour...have done over 300 miles since Aug. 18. While I hope to be adding some other regimens soon, just walking alone, getting the pumper up to 110-120 sustained pulse has dropped 20 lbs, gotten overall cholesterol/triglicerides/sugar, etc all back into the accepted levels. Haven't changed diet at all (I'm pretty much low carber, although not a total Nazi about it). Only treat I've really given up for a while is ice cream (about the only pure sugar I ate anyway). Hasn't done much for upper body strength, though. Really need to swim, overall best non-impact thing to do, looking into finding more convenient way to do it...worst thing about the walking is that it's time consuming, 2-3 hours at a time, and if I weren't retired wouldn't have time to do it, really. So, for an old fart, it's pretty amazing what just this one form of exercise has accomplished in only a couple months. - OS
  19. Well, there are dead people on probably every state's voter registration lists, due to lack of database maintenance and so forth... Is there proof that those dead folks actually VOTED, or just that they were still REGISTERED? - OS
  20. Wow, that's the old masturbation meter joke I heard in grammar school. Ahem, a few years ago. - OS
  21. I don't even see how there CAN be "voter fraud", except for cases where local precincts are doing it, like in the old days of letting folks vote numerous times and whatnot. Doesn't matter how many "fraudulent" registrations there are, ala ACORN or whatever. I mean, you have to show ID to actually vote, eh? - OS
  22. Note that there is one "wadcutter" type that was a standard in LE for a long time in .38/.357, and is still touted as an acceptable self defense round by many, the LSWCHP (lead semi wadcutter hollowpoint). Winchester makes it still in 158 gr .38 +p. Maybe that's what Verbal's relative had in mind, too, meaning the LE part, dunno. - OS
  23. Glad you came through that ordeal okay, and doubly glad you see it as a wakeup call. We'll let the mid TN guys lead you to the right training. Certainly you should consider getting your HCP. Off top o' my head...you see The Brave One ? That's a Kahr with which Jodie exacts justice. Small and effective. Good pistola Welcome aboard, - OS
