  1. Hey, it's ALL friggin nasty ... if done correctly! - OS
  2. Well, who knows, maybe they don't. Wallys at Gallagher View always has it, been 8.57 + .10 ammo fee + tax for a good long while now. I've bought it at the Wallys at East Town Mall too. - OS
  3. Weird. Our "region" way over here in Ktown always has it. You have asked for it, yes? The one I use most often doesn't have some of the stuff they sell visible. - OS
  4. Correct. It is generally only company policy that disallows firearm possession in commercial vehicles. There are no federal laws against it. Nothing in US DOT regs, for example. As far as the feds are concerned, if you are legal to possess in whatever condition in the state you are presently in, okay by them. It is possible that some states have special state DOT reg banning possession in commercial vehicles, I wouldn't know. But TDOT does not. However, probably EVERY trucking company forbids it for employee drivers and contracted owner operator drivers. Almost totally because of real or perceived liability issues. I suspect that most companies that utilize employee-driven vehicles of any kind, whether car or van, have similar policy, but again, this is up to the company, not fed or state DOT. Even the small % of true independents who contract load by load through a broker and run under their own ICC authority, I'd suspect that the individual contracts contain a no-firearms clause but I don't know that for sure. Many of the large distributing centers that independents haul into, though, also have a strict no firearms policy, even to the point of cab searches, especially in the case of US government contracted places. But it is a very widespread notion, even in some of the trucking instruction schools, that there is some federal law that bans driver firearm possession in commercial vehicles, but just it so. There are quite a few regs concerning firearms/ammo as a transported commodity, but not for individual possession. I've been a trucker in a couple of different employment incarnations in my bizarre career, so have looked into this more than a little. Maybe I'll tell of my long day at the Manchester weigh station many years ago one of these days. - OS (sorry to continue hijack, maybe should be new topic, mods)
  5. "Need" has little to do with "greed" in most corporate philosophy. "All the traffic will bear" is generally the norm. - OS
  6. Mentioned this on another thread, but ya know ya gotta give Wally's a little credit with the ammo freakout: they've kept supply and price steady through all this so far. If they've been out of something, they're restocked in a day or three, and no increase in price. - OS
  7. It was put in place way back during the gas crunch of hmm, when, 'bout 73? Many here wouldn't remember that; but for a couple of weeks, it was bad; waiting in lines, couldn't get but 5 gallons, stuff like that. But oddly, the price didn't increase by much, if any. Anyway, it was put in place as national fuel saving measure, so you don't burn gas sitting a light when it would be clear to turn right. - OS
  8. Well, still dunno why he pulled you over. Unless it's a marked "no turns on red" intersection, the right turn on red is okay, since that's a federal law. - OS
  9. Was just shooting mine over at Coal Creek yesterday. My lifetime all in all favorite wheel gun. It would be my EDC also, if I hadn't come to mindset of opting for more quick rounds. - OS Edit, forgot to mention: yep, I've ordered one new handgun since the election. And bought a shotgun and ordered a rifle. Should be relatively set after those, and will concentrate on stockpiling more ammo.
  10. Good. My first thought, since site would show as "contacted" was that it was a DoS attack. Reason being, ConcealedCarry had one couple days ago, was down with same symptoms. Beginning to think some liberal hacker black ops targeting the gun sites... - OS
  11. Well written expression of your (not unique) frustration. I can only empathize, and suggest that if you had seen America's demise for the extra 24 years that I have, you'd feel even more frustrated and enraged ... and ultimately depressed with helplessness. This is NOT America in a natural progressive "evolution" or "change"; this is nothing but America in DEMISE, plain and simple. In the last decade, it's happening so fast that one feels like a historian reviewing the era in fast motion. Without singling out any particular faction, let alone an individual, it's the inevitable imbalance of population vs resources finally taking effect on an increasingly rapid global scale. At its core, it's an environmental problem, but it is translated to economic and social breakdown; the "environment" can't systematically eradicate enough of us quickly enough, so there are more sophisticated and effective ways for the planet to shrug off perhaps half its population or more, like a dog shedding fleas. Is this actually the beginning of TEOTWAWKI? Every generation thinks so. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But it really IS inevitable at some point, even if we didn't increase our ongoing population at ALL. Certainly, enlightened government could forestall this somewhat, but the last eight years have certainly accelerated the demise. And no, I don't think the next four can slow the slide much either. Things will just generally and gradually deterioate, until a trigger event makes things happen quickly. A depression like in the 30's would be plenty. We'd lose a third of our population in five to ten years, and assuming similar conditons globally, likewise with the rest of the world, probably with even more drastic reductions. And sad to say, if you've read much of my other downbeat opinions on TGO, it really IS too late to do much about it, except whatever you can on a personal level. And on that cheery note, I do the customary late sign off - have to be somewhere to shoot some tomorrow and see about buying a couple more guns (seriously). And you though YOU were ranting... - Oh "certainly, I hope I'm wrong" Shoot
  12. She is the CorneredCat.com, gal too, for anyone who doesn't know. - OS
  13. I wouldn't not shoot a 'cabra with less than 12 gauge slug myself. (I guess we oughtta cool this..it's not just off topic, it's off the planet) - Chief of the OhShoots
  14. In a left-handed way, I guess he means that the more of the voting public that has a carry permit, the less likely it would be for lawmakers to vote for a ban, since the bastids above all want to keep their jobs. (and the NRA can use this as statistical leverage) - OS
  15. Sure you can hunt them, you just won't find any. You can hunt Kodiak bear in TN, too. Although it would be better not to shoot one with a larger caliber. American puma seems to be popular hunting pastime here, too, since almost everybody has either heard or seen one or has a trusted friend or relative who has. I would also not shoot one of those with .223 - it would be better not to shoot one with 30-30. - (big) Chief OhShoot
  16. Out of all the things I've ever been called, "chief" is quite benign. - OS
  17. Look, the prob is, there isn't time to get the forum rolled out, since it's TEOTWAWKI next Thursday! I thought everyone knew? - Oh "tinfoil is mandatory" Shoot
  18. Do we have prairie dogs in TN now? Did they follow the coyotes in or something? Tumbleweeds blowing around in downtown Nashville? - OS
  19. Mea culpa, but you shoulda put in the disclaimer On that note, my last ex-wife really liked shooting full sized Ruger .357, but I wouldn't recommend it for concealed carry. - OS
  20. Well, you asked for the ladies' opinions... So far you have one lady ... and two sissies, I guess - OS

    XD Owners!

Both Kahr and Ruger sites posted some weights that weren't even close at one time when I was first researching carry options, so sometimes ya just don't know, ya know? XD's are pretty heavy for their size, at least compared to their main competition, Glock. I don't care, since they are really built. One lb or 2.5 doesn't make much diff to me in IWB, at least as a dealbreaker for picking a certain firearm. - OS
