  1. Greets from just south of you Love my XD Sub Compact 9, for what it's worth to ya... I bought a Ruger SP101 from Randy's there in FC ... - OS
  2. I'm afraid you'll have to leave the country then. There's no room for anyone who thinks that way anymore Seriously, welcome to TGO from fellow Knoxburgian.... - OS
  3. It is indeed quite a bit safer for the bad guy. - OS
  4. So, the felon Stevens of Alaska gives his swan song in the senate today. Gets LONG standing ovation of honor. What a bunch of crooks there; I'm sure they recognize that "there but for the grace of God go I" (meaning, he got caught and they didn't)... And looks like Dubya wants to get some last controversial licks in before he leaves the White House burning behind him. To credit P.J. O'Rourke, we do indeed have a Parliament of Whores. - OS

    1911, why?

Me too. Now I know where to get rid of fruitcakes and get 1911's for em! But I didn't know it would be in French Polynesia (Bora Bora). Very informative indeed... - Oh Shoot

    1911, why?

Have we invaded Tahiti? - OS
  7. In 1973 I lived on a friend's newly purchased farm for 8 months out that way, had a Friendsville postal address. Took me a month to FIND the post office. - OS
  8. Now THAT'S funny, and I don't even own any of the three... - OS
  9. Sorry not to be part of the ritual today. I've been on ammo buying jag for several weeks now, two more fire irons coming, 'bout broke. - OS
  10. All good advice methinks... The SW Airweights are fine weapons for their intended purpose. Just decide on conventional hammer, shrouded, or none (shrouded/none best for SD IMHO) and get/order a new one, without the lock if you can. If over time you decide its not for you, you can sell it. SW retains value well, used no lock guns will probably fetch more on resell. Worst case, you've rented a gun pretty inexpensively for a while. - OS
  11. Well as per your other post looks like there was good cause to nix them. - OS
  12. What is a Kel-Tec P40? A .40 they used to make? - OS
  13. Yeah...there actually was 1 at the recent Expo show, found it after you guys had left...used, no accessories, $275 firm. Right. WestSide Pawn near me is dealer, quoted me ~ 250 bucks out the door, though they don't keep any in stock, just a few HP and Kel-Tec pistols there. - OS
  14. The incidence is surely quite low percentage wise, but appears to be significant in total numbers. Certainly, if YOU were in that low percentage in a SHTF situation, you would be unimpressed with those odds, to say the least. Here's often highlighted long "documentation" thread from SW forum: http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/500103904/m/228102718 - OS
  15. It's the small hole above the cylinder release button. Locks it down period for storage or to make inoperable for kids in the home, whatever. Not like an on/off safety. Yes, uses a key. Can fail during shooting, also. How often is a matter of debate.
  16. re ILikePie's post? He was stating price difference tween HP and Storm. MSRP on the 9mm black finish is 220, .40 black is 240 - OS
  17. None killed, one perhaps bruised... General take on Charter is that in its present incarnation, the guns are back to pre "Charter 2000" quality, now again simply stamped "Charter Arms", although I agree with your assessment of them being in a somewhat lower "tier" of quality. Also, I'm unable to find current warranty info from their site. - OS
  18. Well, a simple blow back carbine with a big ole slappy bolt can be pretty forgiving on reliability compared to a semi-auto handgun. Miniaturization demands more quality in the machining and mating of surfaces, etc. The same tolerances, dirt, stamped metal machining, etc that still allow a bigger weapon to function are more problematic for a smaller weapon. Think of all the countries that produce AK type weapons with actually fairly crude machining that function just fine. But many of those same factories can't produce reliable handguns. That's my take on it... Also, Hi-Point is about the only player for 9mm in that price range. And I've not read a bad review of their 9 or .40 carbines. - OS
  19. I have one ordered... I'll letcha know once I get my mitts on it. I've held one and read reviews, that's about all I know, but wanted some relatively accurate 75 yard gun and wanted to consolidate calibers with other guns I have. And it IS so ugly I find it somewhat charming...like some ole dogs I've had. - OS
  20. Wow, Donald Sutherland in Kelly's Heroes... Good find, and jab... - OS
  21. Seems to have been surpassed some now in max performance, but I have Rem Golden Sabers 124+p in both 9mm pistols. Also have GS in Ruger .357. Feeds great, low smoke/flash. Perfectly adequate methinks. Plus the Knoxville cops carry it still AFAIK. Not willing to experiment too much right away, as have a small cache of it, and also don't want to go to expense of shooting 100 rounds or so of something new through each weapon to ensure reliability. - OS
  22. Wow, I was there Thursday, I think. Bout 5 boxes of the Blazer Brass. They had lots of the WWB at the time, dunno how much BB as it was under the counter where he pulled it from. Dick's, yeah. I even have had "rain check" on those for 2 weeks now. No calls. Also on the 1.99 00 buck/slugs. Nada. I could probably ease off the 9mm for a while, really...have amassed good bit, just that I'm gonna wind up with 4 9mm weapons, my main arsenal, so wanted to get a good bit ahead. - OS
  23. I don't believe I've ever heard of that with modern plastic shells. Are those old coated paper type shells? Either way, do the shells chamber and eject okay? Run through the whole bunch by chambering/ejecting (without firing of course). If they do, I'd reckon they are okay. Unless they ARE old paper shells, in which case I'd chuck 'em and use plastic ones. Conventional wisdom by experts I read over and over on pistol magazine springs is that only compression and decompression cycles is what weakens them, NOT simply sitting unused compressed. I would assume this applies to shotgun tube springs also. I'm sure others will chime in on that part, but I think the "shape" of those shells is unusual. - OS
  24. Well, I see that knife "survival" topic seems to be mostly the day to day type, rather than "man against nature" type. I generally have 5 on me all the time: Cold Steel Recon 1 in back pocket, CS Super Edge around neck, CS Urban Pal and no name little folder on two part keychain, and multi-tool blade. Maybe I won't need a pistol. - OS
