  1. Posted that Galco Stow n' Go...it oughtta fit... - OS
  2. Sounds sortta like me; once I decided to get re-involved with guns and upgrade my defense scheme, I jumped in whole hog. Hang in there...sounds like permit issuance has actually gotten quite a bit more expeditious in the last month or so. Hint: call after 4 weeks, just to "check status". Nicely. Good chance they'll issue that day assuming no glitches. - OS
  3. Don't hold your breath... More importantly, don't lose your receipt! - OS
  4. I was actually gonna do it with a couple of guns, but just never got a round tuit. - OS
  5. Yeah, Ayoob and others have generally advocated against the use of home loads on legal grounds, but the hollow-point fear seems pretty much a non-issue any more, since most all police dept's use them, the defense being there is less chance of over-penetration and peripheral risk. I agree that in general, a "good shoot" is a good shoot, but then there's always the issue that the perp might not have been killed or injured so badly if a "normal" round were used. Of course, that would probably come more into play in the civil part of the nightmare. But these are are old and often beaten to death debates ... and probably none of the above would have much effect, UNLESS the shooting were questionable enough to be tried, either criminally or civilly. In which case any consideration might come into play;for example, a hot home loaded .454 casull with a skull and crossbones grip motif, 3 other backup guns, etc. might not be generally advisable. - OS
  6. Urban legal myth would say "maybe". I believe Mas Ayoob has written that it has, or could, I disremember. I know he's big on DAO guns for the "no hair trigger" legal reasons. Question I've always had re this, is who exactly would determine that you DID have work done? Anybody think that any PD, even big city, would have some firearms expert take the gun apart and be good enough to know and testify to such? Whatcha think DoubleAfter? (our active mouthpiec...um...attorney) - OS
  7. If you decide to go with that one, watch gear classifieds on here, I'm listing that exact holster next day or so, like new ... - OS
  8. Well, Charter (along with Taurus/Rossi) has long been considered a "second tier" maker, but your experience with models of 20 years ago seems to be atypical. Granted, this is not from my firsthand experience of shooting one a heck of a lot, but rather from lots of webbing, as I really looked into buying a modern one about a year ago. (I wound up buying Ruger, btw). - OS
  9. I have a .38 from the 60s that is still solid ... Conventional wisdom seems that for a few years normal build quality suffered and perhaps best to avoid those branded as "Charter 2000". - OS
  10. Yeah, I'm thinking this whole scenario is pretty low likelihood, even if you were open carrying; nil possibility if well concealed. - OS
  11. Yeah, I usually pop in there when I'm in 'Nooga to see Mom, not far from her house. Guns are not the cheapest for the most part, but not horribly overpriced like say, Gander Mtn; most seem to average about 10% higher than say, Coal Creek in Knox; great place to ogle, as there's usually at least one person behind the counter that has a clue, and until the election buying spree, pretty well stocked with most popular pistols. I generally buy a box or three of Blazer ammo or something; they'd had .357 Blazer 158 gr. hollowpoints with decent price for the last year or so. Various good deals on shot shells in hunting loads. - OS

    Lay-a-way Plan

Must be pretty common still around the country....I've seen beau coup posts on other forums where folks mention they've put one on layaway. - OS
  13. Who knows. Way back when, I'd say. It's pretty much a "national law"; has more to do with perceived public perceptions than reality. Lawmakers appearing to do something to make public feel more secure, like most all weapons laws. Now that the subject has arisen here, though, I'm very curious just what allows me to carry a 12" bowie knife camping, but not on the street. Or for that matter, a 9" fillet knife fishing. Maybe there isn't a statue for this? - OS
  14. Most of the Kahr line (but not the CW series). - OS
  15. Yes, as long as weapon stays IN the car. TN Code at: http://www.michie.com/tennessee/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp=tncode You want title: 39-17-13 for weapons laws
  16. UT has shut down it's photography department that used to do most of the work for the other dept's around campus (I was part of it). Only in-house archive copy still there is McClung Museum, unless they farm that out now, too, dunno. I've been gone from UT since '97. If you have something that either History or the Museum might be interested in having copies of, you might possibly get some work done there, otherwise probably not. At the Photography Center, we did (billed) work for the public, at the cheapest cost in the state for quality work, but that resource is long gone. - OS
  17. Nah...sunlight much worse, but a few passes with flatbed ain't gonna speed up any fading... I worked in photog for over 20 years at UT, did lots of archival copying with film and digital..then ran my own biz doing similar for several years...I've handled lots of pretty much priceless objects, both flat copy and 3D items. I still have copystand setup in my digs here, let me know if you want some help; could put everything onto film for additional backup, and then you could do digital over time or whatever... PMing you copy of this so you see it... - OS
  18. As a "collector" you can legally own a switchblade, but you can't carry it. One odd thing is that I don't recall seeing anything regarding knives over 4" when doing outdoor activities. Maybe it's technically illegal to have a 7" buck on your belt even when hiking/camping/hunting/fishing. Dunno. But Pirate, if a LEO wants to make your day miserable for carrying that 6 incher, whether straight blade or folder, carried openly or concealed, carried in the normal course of your day, he certainly CAN. - OS
  19. Ah so, I C. Matter of fact, if I had just gone to Kel-Tec and looked, would have seen that, doh. Here's PF-9 animation (the P11 looks similar, just wasn't animated):
  20. Hammer? Surely the P11 and PF9 are striker fired actions? (maybe alwayspackin means that some of the modifications make the gun no longer drop safe, I dunno) - OS
  21. According to reports, they didn't have any to speak of on Black Friday either. Of course, they have the standard $8/box case buy for UMC 9mm in their Sunday promo for this week. I put in raincheck for that about 3 weeks ago. Nada still. - OS
  22. Not exactly J frame, but my SP101 in D.M. Bullard. Very secure, comfy. dmbullardleather.com Here's same model for J frame (Dual Carry). I don't recommend any IWB holster with a single retainer: - OS

    GLOCK CLIP

ClipDraw is more conducive to shooting yer GOOBER off! - OS
  24. 5 rounds and a slow reload is a big compromise for primary carry. There wasn't much gang activity back in the heyday of snubbies. - OS
