  1. Don't listen to bkelm18, he's just razzing you. Actually, most all of us on TGO carry one. But it should be the one with the TN state seal on it to really impress the cops. - OS
  2. Ah, good choice. He sure makes nice, functional models. - OS
  3. Most concealable: Kahr PM9 in pocket or IWB. On one hand, you're only gaining 2 rounds over your revolver though, with the short mag. On the other hand, reload is quicker. On the third hand (you do have one, don't you?), 7 is probably enough. On the fourth hand, I had same concerns as you and usually carry XD SC, with spare mag. Total 11+16 rounds. - OS
  4. Correct. Same way that the XD 9/40 subcompact extended mags work. Although the sleeve (called "X-Tension" by SA) for the .45 mags only fit the .45. - OS
  5. How did you two guys handle the "proof of citizen" in the mail? I see where DOS states that those docs are not returned. Photocopy of birth certificate or passport is not supposed to be legit. - OS
  6. I guess you could call it "biased", but of course there's a whole separate forum area on XDtalk.com for the .45, if you want to read beau coup about user comments in a hurry. - OS
  7. Unlax, Tim . It's more rare NOT to get a spirited debate on any given subject here . And of course, this is actually a quite civil forum compared to many you'll find; mainly because it's well policed from Tungsten and other admins/mods. As far as the slide stop vs rack thing (which is actually a big time topic drift to begin with), I certainly I don't care how anyone initially loads their handgun. I don't even care how *I* load mine, as long as it functions correctly. I never owned but one semi-auto up until a year ago and never used slide stop on it to load first round. It wasn't until I bought Kahr PM9 that I ever even thought about loading with slide stop drop, but in researching Kahr before buying, found that first round nose-diving and jamming into feed ramp was a common problem, and that the equally common solution was to use slide stop. Then found that Kahr themselves recommend that, both from tech support AND written in the manual. I was surprised to see that Springfield ALSO writes that method in their XD manual too, when I purchased that gun. It seems that any number of manufacturers may recommend that (note Hex's mention of Nighthawk). I'm sure it's one way to forestall user from riding the slide and not getting a good full "snap" for positive feed. And certainly more likely on a small short slide that's tougher to get a good grip on, having necessarily very stiff springs, like Kahr's line. But anyway, don't take any fire iron debate here as anything personal. Glad you're here and please don't feel like you need to walk on eggs when you post - Lord knows few others do Mac (Oh Shoot)
  8. y'all shoot metal targets in IDPA, right? If so, no incidences of FMJ rounds coming back at ya? - OS
  9. Methinks they're thrown a little more money into the permit part of DOS. They even revamped the whole DOS website in the last couple months. I'm sure it was all due to my feedback during the process. Right. - OS
  10. We didn't mention the price, only the availability But, ouch, that's really high, even considering Gander Mountain as source. - OS
  11. Well, sounds like they are pretty rare, all right - OS
  12. Well, I won't swear it's not in the Springfield 1911 manual, too. Since I don't have one. edit: Found Springfield 1911 manual online. Indeed, they do NOT say to use the slide release to chamber first round. But the Springfield XD does. I thought the thread had morphed to include semi-autos in general. I confess I've never owned a 1911 (and too old to get addicted to them now!) - OS
  13. Midway, Cheaper Than Dirt, Cabelas for sure. Bass Pro, at least online. - OS
  14. Perhaps you should explain that to the engineers at Kahr and Springfield. They seem to not have as much expertise in the matter as yourself - OS
  15. Could be why the manuals often instruct to load the first round by locking slide back and releasing slide stop. Both my Kahr and XD manuals stipulate that. (actually quite important with the Kahr, especially until loosened up). - OS
  16. I don't go to malls much period, but maybe wind up at West Town for something or other 3 times per year. I've always gone in through one of the anchor stores, never seen a sign. So, you know.... Same for the often mentioned Hamilton Place in 'Nooga. - OS
  17. Ditto. It seems ironic to me that some anti's opine that one's desire to carry a handgun is tantamount to some sort of Bronsonesque vigilante complex, when actually the opposite is true. Most of the heightened awareness I've noticed on my part is to absolutely minimize the chances of having to use the very piece I'm legally carrying. - OS
  18. Well, the much exalted Springfield EMP comes in .40. - OS
  19. That little 9mm sure is nifty looking...must be double stack to hold 12. Actually they all must be double stack. What's the scoop on Charles Daly stuff in general...quality? - OS
  20. Sounds good. David makes great stuff, it ought to serve you well. - OS
  21. Also most Kahrs ('cept CW series)... - OS
  22. Which one, the Dual Carry or one of his single clip models? Tight before you wear it, or about the same on or off your body? (single clip ones often tighter while wearing because you're squeezing it with clip area right on thickest part of gun, while double clips off the gun area don't put as much pressure on gun area). Mr. Soze is right though, in either case, USE it, lots of drawing and reholstering. The plastic bag trick can work, too...put it in that way and work it back and forth some, then leave in there, often just an hour or two can make a pretty big diff... - OS
  23. I guess I'm really stuck with that, huh? - Oh Shoot, it's Chief
