  1. I wondered much the same, when looking at my webhoster (the infamous Network Solutions) who offers unlimited diskspace, transfer/bandwidth, unlimted MySQL Unix database (if that flavor works), PHP, etc etc for $30/month with a yearly contract. Even free domain registration. http://www.networksolutions.com/web-hosting/package-comparison.jsp I also PM'd to see if shared hosting like this might be viable, but no response; but of course I also understand how much of several kinds of pressure Tungsten is under, and I know he's trying his best. Well see what his prognostications are tomorrow evening, according to his latest notice. - OS
  2. Okay, let's say you are right, and being a lawyer, I'd certainly lean toward your explanation. But then what's your take on the municipal/state park/recreational statute? It's only an offense to carry with "intent to go armed". So it doesn't apply to permit holders? I've often thought that statute could well be challenged for that reason, and of course the fact that it is worded only to apply to "prohibited weapons" listed in 39-17-1302 (a), which does NOT include firearms. (and yes I know the TN AG has opined that the INTENT of it was to include firearms). But if "going armed" can be construed to mean "carrying a loaded weapon without a HCP", then hmmm.... - OS

I'll bite.."T-Box"? I presume you mean skull, but never heard that before? - OS
  4. So why are there different penalties for the two sections? One is felony, one is misdemeanor. - OS
  5. Yeah, well, he hasn't gotten one yet, but has gone to effort of ordering, so it'll come my way eventually. I just need the couple of more pieces to maybe survive first week of Armageddon, and I don't believe that's scheduled until sometime in March. But seriously, if you have interesting stuff to sell at fair prices, TGO classifieds is a great way to go. - OS
  6. They didn't believe me when I called them Actually, you showed at Norris, better attendance than most in Knox area, so no more razzin... - OS
  7. Just dump at range next time you are there. - OS
  8. Well I am, but don't want to stiff CCA :-) And btw, you really aren't supposed to "sell" though the regular posting sections, don't want you to get smacked by admins. I see you haven't been around long enough to put in the classifieds, but if you become "benefactor" (donate to TGO) you can right away. Certainly be worth it if you have stuff to sell ... the 995 would certainly go quick, I'm sure. Besides, TGO needs all the help it can get right now.. - OS
  9. Dunno, I've got that and XD service ordered through JWP at CCA. Whenever he can get hold of anything again! - OS
  10. I've had one ordered for awhile. Those modifications sure make it look more like an Evil Black Rifle. But I think I'll be satisfied with just a NBR (Naughty Black Rifle). - OS
  11. if you use this URL: http://www.insureyourgunrights.com/ you get a multi-tool. Although I had to email them after a couple of months ... they had "neglected" to order it. - OS
  12. Yeah, there's that, too. However it is not a defense against section (, which says essentially the same thing. And that has always bemused me - what is the DIFFERENCE between these two sections, as far as firearms are concerned?? : "( (1) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, with the intent to go armed, any firearm, explosive, explosive weapon, bowie knife, hawk bill knife, ice pick, dagger, slingshot, leaded cane, switchblade knife, blackjack, knuckles or any other weapon of like kind, not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in any public or private school building or bus, on any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. (2) A violation of this subsection ( is a Class E felony. © (1) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any firearm, not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in any public or private school building or bus, on any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. It is not an offense under this subsection © for a nonstudent adult to possess a firearm, if the firearm is contained within a private vehicle operated by the adult and is not handled by the adult, or by any other person acting with the expressed or implied consent of the adult, while the vehicle is on school property. (2) A violation of this subsection © is a Class B misdemeanor." B is felony C a misdemeanor, but I can't really see any diff as far as firearms? - OS
  13. Well, all "not a lawyer" disclaimers apply, but, law says: "It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, with the intent to go armed ..." "possess" would imply that having it in car would be a violation... "intent to go armed" would imply that having it in car, especially if unloaded, separated from ammo, (even better, in locked case) would not be a violation. In real world sense, why would anyone search her car, and how could they without a warrant, or at least by calling in a LEO of some sort? And why would they ever do that? Odds close to zero, I'd say. And in extended real world sense, even if the above did occur, what is the actual likelihood of an otherwise reasonable and law-abiding woman having an unloaded and locked up weapon actually being charged? Odds also close to zero, I'd say. I taught high school in a previous incarnation many years ago; if I did now, I would have no hesitation to keep a firearm locked and unloaded in my vehicle on school grounds, as far as being "caught". But I would be much more concerned with it being stolen during a random car theft than anything else. Oh "again, my legal opinions worth same as my retainer" Shoot
  14. Supply/demand. My guess is once O takes office and there is no immediate attack on gun ownership, buying frenzy will lessen and supply/prices of both most firearms (perhaps not AR/AK) and ammo will stabilize back to pre-election levels. At least for a while. Look at gasoline; I would have bet half the farm that US would NEVER again see price under $2/gallon...even maybe $3. Although I expect to see $5/gal within 2 years or less. - OS
  15. That's main diff between "recognition" and "reciprocity". Maybe the only one. - OS
  16. Deuteronomy 20:16 (King James Version) "But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth.." -------------------- Hey, you're going to need more than a handgun or two to accomplish that! - OS
  17. PM jwp Last time I was at Coal Creek, I noticed seemed like whole top case full of .32/3ATs and whatnot, maybe he's got a pf9 or two around, too. I'd sure try there first. West End Pawn (Bearden) usually has a pf9 and p11 around, too, but they are MSRP or more. Only thing they are dealer for new is Kel-Tec and Hi-Point! Maybe Frontier over toward Kingston. Maybe Randy's Guns n Knives in Fountain City. As a newbie, I got one good and one raw deal there. Who am I leavin' out around here? Oh yeah, Gander Mountain, but gird yer loins (and wallet) :-) - OS
  18. Yah, I've got any number of pouches that will hold spare XD 16 rounder, all incognito even if seen. But I've made a special effort to really not print at all, with anything, at least until having to steeply bend or squat (I can squat, just can't get back up) ;) Anyway, after beau coup experimentation, looks like I've settled in on this Safariland horiz. holder: The horiz. aspect of it really tucks and hides well. I also use a horiz. phone case. I used to keep it in my pocket (Razr), but of course I need all the pocket space I have for all the other crap now. Hey, Astra 900 ain't a dorky superhero name? :p:p:p Sounds perfect to me! Like R2D2's cousin. To share the razz, I think I'll change mine to OldShoot in 5 years - OS
  19. Would be seen as state speed record a couple of months ago! Good fer you, JohnMattWillBillyBobWayneGeorge - OS
  20. Okay, first is Decal-Grip on Kahr PM9, I used on both sides. This is the "rubber" texture, really great, I mean, REALLY great, increases grip quality 100%, doesn't add any noticeable thickness. Decal-Grip also makes "sandpaper" texture, not as rough as real sandpaper (or skateboard tape) plus it doesn't flake, can't get down tween gun/hoster and scratch. Anyway, the first set of these I put on lasted till next Kahr clean - these are supposed to be pretty impervious to solvents, oils, whatever, and I guess the surface is, but a day or two after cleaning, I gripped the gun and whee, the tapes all just slid off like they were floating on oil, and the sticky was gone. So I emailed Decal-Grip, they admonished me to clean surface well with alcohol before applying, I retorted that I had done so, and they told me to send them in for free replacement, which I did. This set has stayed put, but I've been careful not to get any cleaning stuff on them, and especially nothing up in magazine well where it could come out underneath them through mag release gaps. Incidentally, this material is a proprietary manufacture, just for Decal Grip company. It's not a rebranded 3M or similar product, to the best of my knowledge. Next is my XD with TractionGrips. I think they only sell on eBay under that name, although they have a website. This is actually stamped out of 3M Safety Walk #310. I searched Lowe's, Home Depot, and two Ace Hardwares in two towns, nada. Can find it online, but only in big rolls, like $125 worth, only. 3M makes a bewildering array of traction tapes, but #310 is THE one, rubbery, good grip, doesn't flake. Anyway, the stuff is almost as good as Decal Grips, and so far after maybe 5 cleanings it has stayed stuck, though I've been careful to not get cleaning goop on it. Last time I looked on eBay, there are also now a couple of folks selling sections of the 3M #310 where you can make a pattern and cut your own grips out of it. I only put it on the outside grip, and on the inside thumb well. Even though I'm a pretty big guy, don't have huge hands and my main purchase on the fat XD grip is on the outside main grip and the inside thumb place. Also, carrying IWB, since the inside butt rides against Oh Shoots tender midriff since he doesn't wear undershirts, I didn't put one there for to cause me no pain. All in all, great stuff and maybe we should do a group buy of a roll. Could do all the plastic fantatics owned by everybody on TGO! This last example is 3M "step" or whatever grip tape, is carried by Ace Hardwares, found in both Knoxville and Chattanooga. BUT, could only find the gray. Gray is 3M Product # 7740, black is 7732, I found out, but haven't found it. They gray is Ace Hardware product # 64174. Note that this is not in 3M's "Safety Walk" line. Anyway, I haven't put it on anything. I think it would significantly improve grip in the way the above ones do, but it's definately not as good, and experimenting with a wet hand, not in the same league as the other two. I do have a piece of skateboard tape and I also found another 3M step grit product at Lowe's I think it was, but both of these, if you rub them, the grit does indeed come off. And they are REALLY gritty, and even if I didn't mind that much abrasion in my hand shooting a hundred rounds or more, I sure as heck wouldn't want to sand my old waist side off, I'll try to maintain my weight the old fashioned way, thanks. So there is the benefit of more of my obessive/compulsive inquiry into grip tapes thus far. Perhaps next I'll do an in depth of how to find the perfect spare magazine carrier in only 6 months and $200 or less! - OS
  21. Opinions seem about 50/50 on Agrip. - OS
  22. Totally agree. One of those things that is serious enough, that once you've decided to commit to it, you really WANT it. - OS
  23. 39-17-1308. Defenses to unlawful possession or carrying of a weapon. — (a) It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was: (4) Incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity; But I don't think "urban hunting" counts ! - OS
