  1. Nobody would use them if there were a more viable alternative. For most, there is not. You can always use one of the other auction sites. Really saves a lot of money in fees and labor in packing/shipping, since you won't sell much of anything. - OS
  2. Yep, agree that was HARSH. Course, what got you was: "You may not use PayPal to buy or sell high-capacity magazines (those which hold more than 10 rounds)". Again, because they do biz in states where that is illegal, including their own headquarters. And I guess the 180 day thing is in the agreement somewhere also, or at least was then, although you got that back right away, with some unpaid effort. Nobody ever claimed that PayPal/eBay has a heart, or necessarily even common sense. Of course, what publicly traded entity does? Incidentally, I suspect that PayPal's enforcement of rules is pretty much like eBay's, which depends almost entirely on user snitches. Likely you were ratted out by another PayPal user on GunBroker. - OS
  3. I've always felt that if you have a dog who adores you, should also have a cat who ignores you. Sorry about your loss chipperi, and for all the losses we all suffer. I haven't had a mutt for about 15 years now, after having animals all my life. Hoping to move out into country finally again in the next year, so will remedy that...might have to go ahead and rescue some mutt this spring, even as a townie. My granddad brought me my first dog when I was 3, mixed multi-splotched terrier mutt ... he lived 13 years and when granddad and I buried him, we both bawled like kids, me 16, graddad maybe 65 at the time. I am only child, so you can imagine how close I was to that dog. That was Skippy, an since there has been Cleo (Cleopatra, because she was so ugly), Thumper (little mixed toy collie and something) who got banged by full standard poodle and created a shaggy black thing named Raggmopp, who was banged by a birddog creating a bizzare creature named Pinkie. All of these lived right around 13 years each, and all went pretty peacefully. There were also a few great cats, Hondo and Bluesie, both about 12, and the magnificent FeedMe, who just died last year in my ex's care, a few weeks short of 21 years old! All dogs, even mean ones, methinks (and maybe good cats) go to heaven. - OS

I agree it's a mess. It IS tempting to just overnight the dang thang as nsnate mentioned, without saying boo. Plead ignorance if the worst happened (I know, ignorance of the law no excuse...). On the other hand, there's a hell of a lot UPS/FedEx don't tell YOU, too. Of course, it's all buried in tiny clauses in the Service Agreement tome. Here's a common "scam"...there are a lot of items that FedEx won't insure but up to a certain amount, I think it's 500 clams, like "collectibles, jewelry, art, other items not replaceable from current retailers, etc etc"...BUT, they'll let you slap on $5000 additional insurance and pay the extra in a heartbeat. FedEx Ground has a particularly nasty little practice (among many, MANY), where they include the $100 worth of insurance in their rates, or of course let you pay for more. But in well over 50% of all claims, the contractor pays the claim after an "investigation". So FedEx has taken customer bucks, and paid out nada from them, as it came directly out of contractor's weekly settlement. And so it goes... - OS
  6. Yeah, just depends on exactly what they are...policy pretty much the same as prohibited items list on eBay... Folks, ya gotta remember that eBay/PayPal is a publicly traded company, and they'll do everything they can to enhance revenue. If they thought they could get away with processing funds for Columbian drug cartels, they would in a heartbeat. The firearms thing is far from a political, or even moral, stance. Right now, since they lost a lot of buyers due to various policies, they've hammered sellers with some fairly onerous policies. In fairness, it has weeded out some bad ones, but also flogs many of the good ones. PayPal in particular is pretty much unique. It's not a bank, but functions like one. Not an investment firm, but they will pay you Money Market dividends, etc. They've come under mucho scrutiny, been sued a bunch, lost some, won some. For example, they can no longer grab funds from your bank account for any reason, or freeze it, they lost that one a good long time ago, and paid beau coup recompense to a lot of folks, too. So the bank account part of the verification process is really just more to hedge their bets that you are indeed a legit entity that won't defraud THEM. And so forth... - OS
  7. Well, technically, I think you actually do create a "PayPal account" the first time you use your cc through them. But you don't have to become "verified", at least not right off. Last time I pored through the rules, they had a limit you could do with unverified accounts, something like 5 grand, best I disremember. I don't keep up with all that, since I've always had a business account with them, the rules being somewhat different as opposed to individual account. - OS
  8. Yeah, I've probably done $50K through PP since 2000, was using them before eBay bought them, before their competing BillPoint failed. I don't like the "anti-gun" part either, but it's definitely more a liability/legal decision on eBay's part than a political/2nd amendment statement. One big reason is that eBay is based in Kalifornia, and they have to really be careful to obey their state laws in addition to federal laws. I don't take it personally ... it's just biz. - OS
  9. I can't believe all this PP paranoia. Send me a check and I'll PayPal your membership to TGO. - OS
  10. Maybe I'm misunderstanding this statement, did you mean renewal of your LEO certification or of a HCP? For HCP, there IS requirement for requalification if permit has lapsed for over 6 months, is what I mean. ? - OS
  11. Really? I used to deliver that area, never heard of it. What's the story, why are you hiding? Not really a particularly great area for gun deals, but...besides Sevier Indoor (read lots of good stuff re them, never been there) there's J. Floyd's, also in Sevierville, only other sizeable one I know of - although there are a couple of pawn shops out W.Main/Dolly Parton Pky in S'ville that used to have a few, typically overpriced, though - Bass Pro out on the interstate, that one sell hand guns or just long guns? Never priced guns at Floyd's, had some good prices on golf stuff at times, though, so maybe worth a look. edit: wait, there's Tom' Pawn on left on Winfield Dunn before you get to Sevierville coming from the Interstate....small place, lots of LEO's frequent that, and he generally has some fire irons. I don't know of any gun stores at all in Pigeon Forge. - OS
  12. I don't have a clue, and dunno why nobody has responded, but for starters, maybe call the fellers at TRI-CITIES GUN DEPOT 423-543-2767 and see who they recommend. - OS
  13. Yes, because statistically, Wal-Mart visit offers you one of the better chances to actually NEED it. Be sure to linger in the parking lot for at least an hour to maximize your chances! - OS

Freight CAN ship any kind of firearm to FFL's. We're talking tractor trailer stuff here, not individual package services. Note that there are shipping polices for each of FedEx's divisions, Express, Ground, Freight, National LTL, Custom Critical, whatever. FedEx even involved in SmartPost, where your USPS guy delivers the last stop to your house, or is it the other way around, I disremember. Current FedEx Ground firearms policy: http://fedex.com/us/services/terms/groundtariff.html#firearms There's an even more detailed one somewhere, as relates to no no goods, and their liability and return. You really got a doofus clerk. Was this at a Kinko's? (I mean, ahem, FedEx Office?) I thought there was to be NO mention of firearm on outside of box for Express. Of course, he sent it Ground (which for SURE is not supposed to mark the outside, see link above as relates to long guns) and with a firearm marking, you were doubly lucky all went well. Not insignificant incidence of theft at ground (mostly from the truck loaders, part time kids who give a crap). A small package of known high value and resale value is always the likeliest target. Note that I also give a crap what FedEx does now, except when I'm sending/getting a package; I've been oughtta there for about 10 months. - OS

Correct, and as I suppose most everybody knows, Express and Ground are totally different enterprises, different terminals, etc. Most folks do NOT know, however, that Express drivers are employees and Ground guys are contractors, who own their own trucks. If they have more than one truck and/or route, they employ others to drive/deliver. - OS

Admittedly, up the line, little chance of it getting noticed by actual FedEx staff, although I was told that certain area recipients were tagged for spot checks with buzzer alert when scanned, dunno for sure. FedEx "says" a lot of things. Gets to the contractor (me), I'd just open it and look. The contractor is slammed with everything, all claims for almost any reason, bonus deductions for policy goofs, yadda yadda, best for the pocketbook to dot all the i's you can. Some contractors also seem to really take it personally that a shipper might be getting a illegitimate price break. (I did too, when somebody sends 20 45lb boxes, marked as 18 lbs, for example). I did it mostly because it was a hard stop, also guys at Para weren't there a lot, so there's an unpaid stop even after spending the time/fuel, etc. - OS
  18. IWB mostly. Kahr in the pocket during walks in summer heat. Only OWB might be an extra gun going to a range. - OS

No.No.No. That is a link to FedEx Freight. I was a FedEx Ground contractor. I assure you that handguns are a no no. I pulled quite a few off the van that slipped through the sort. I delivered to the Para service place in Sevierville. It wasn't so much that I toed the line on the rules, or wanted to make it hard on customers, but that it's all out by itself and a stop that was better for me to avoid if possible :-) But anyway, however your shipment might be outed, it's a no no. Parts are okay, whole guns are not. Also, should your gun be lost, FedEx will pay NADA on even the basic insurance, let alone any higher amount you may have claimed. Even if not lost, it might be a week or two before that gun finally get's returned to you, also with no insurance rider on it. You can send long guns via Ground, though: FedEx Ground will transport and deliver firearms (excluding handguns) as defined by the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, between areas served in the U.S., but only between: Licensed importers; licensed manufacturers; licensed dealers; licensed collectors; law enforcement agencies of the U.S. or any department or agency thereof; and law enforcement agencies of any state or any department, agency or political subdivisions thereof; or Where not prohibited by local, state and federal law, from individuals to licensed importers, licensed manufacturers or licensed dealers (and return of same) And yep, midtennchip, you did get lucky. Actually, you might get lucky over and over, until you don't. - OS
