  1. "Fanny" means butt, or ass, in the US. Always has, still does. My momma used to pop me on my fanny. You fell on your fanny. Why in the hell do you think it's called a fanny pack? Even though many wear it in the front, "The name 'fanny pack' is derived from the fact that they were traditionally worn facing the rear above the buttocks, for which fanny is a slang term in North America." - OS
  2. True. In America, it's "butt". And in France, it's still just a name with no suggestive overtones. Hence the play and movie "Fanny". - OS
  3. Oh horse pucky. Federal law allows you to transport your iron through their state, and excludes any lesser statues in conflict with that. It might be iffy if Illinois was your travel destination, but it's not. EDIT: And not only that, you can have it anyway: (Illinois) NON-RESIDENT A non-resident is permitted to possess a firearm without a FOID* if it is unloaded and enclosed in a case, or if the nonresident is: • Hunting and has a non-resident hunting license, while in an area where hunting is permitted. • On a target range recognized by the Department of State Police. • At a gun show recognized by the Department of State Police. • Currently licensed or registered to possess a firearm in his state of residence. * Firearms Owner’s Identification Card (a Ill state thang) Note that Chicago has more rules, like no how no way. (maybe that's what you are reacting to, Glockmeister, but federal law ought to let you transport through Chi town, too!). (from NRA-ILA, state by state) - OS
  4. I've got an old H&R 9 shot, still rock solid, used it for HCP class, matter of fact. Not worth more than around $125, if that, I'm told. Surely there must be some of these still around somewhere? Or maybe an old Charter? - OS

I grew up there, too, knew the family. Bob's older sister my age, still see her once in a blue moon. Used to play Spin The Bottle at her house in grammar school. Wow, that was some hot stuff alright. Anybody under 60 even know what STB is (or was)? I don't even know which stores are still running here in Ktown. The big one in Brainerd in 'Nooga closed a couple months ago, I noticed. - OS

Sure would. And 225 under list. So, I vote for that one - OS
  7. Oh, okay. I thought it was broken or something. No alternative unless you want to have a cocked hand cannon on that live round indefinitely. This must first revolver you've ever handled? - OS
  8. Really? Meaning if you cock it, you HAVE to shoot the round? That don't sound right. Certainly I've never handled that gun, or even a Taurus of any kind, but hey, it's a single/double action revolver, eh? - OS
  9. All within the last 9 years or so. Certainly no idea in your case, but know that if anything gets tagged for a second look, your app will not proceed automagically, takes a humanoid to actually do special hands on. I'm pretty certain that's one of the things that slowed mine down. Well, roger that. I haven't been vetted that extensively, but passed a couple of more than normal background checks in last 5-6 years myself, and of course several TICs for gun purchase shortly before HCP application. But I know my HCP app sat waiting on someone to personally act on it. And sat. And then sat until the deadline when I probably made a little too much noise over it. - OS
  10. Got any little legal bugaboos in the past, even if they are not now disqualifying ? Have you moved several times in last few years, particularly between diff states or counties? On the other hand, it's only been about 7 weeks for ya ... a couple of months ago, hardly anybody got issued in that time. - OS
  11. Like asking Gestapo headquarters if you can bring a Jewish friend along while traveling from Britain to Switzerland in 1944. ID(i)OT indeed. - OS
  12. Merry Christmas indeed! Nifty with that additional strip of leather across the mouth. I'm assuming that help keeps it open for easier redraw? Yeah, I set it up for outside carry and of course it works pretty well, but I don't really do any of that to speak of. I wound up using it in the "tuck" position with the clips, not because I tuck, but because it allows more flexibility of the ends to mold around body, and later even changed to Comp-Tac clips. Also added moleskin to the back. Just a constant tinkerer, I guess. Here's what it looks like after about 4 months of daily carry. Maybe about time to hit it up with some Kiwi. Enjoy! - OS

How much is that Taurus rifle? And which model? Kinda pricey MSRP. That was one of the few choices I found for a pistol caliber rifle that's still manufactured anyway. Can't find much of a review of one either... - OS
  16. I remember when this first arose. How's she faring? - OS
  17. Pursuant to my earlier posts in this thread, that's my idea of survival camping! - OS
  18. (DaveTN): We just elected a president not because he is qualified but because is a black. If he had been white he would not have been able to beat out Hillary and she would have been elected because she is a woman. (OhShoot): More than likely, ANY dem would have won this election. I agree that Hillary would have won in a landslide. But Obama really just squeaked by in comparison, mainly BECAUSE he is black (or black enough). He probably got the fewest votes of anyone the Dems could have run. Neither is qualified and neither are the best this country has to offer. You'll never again see a "best" as long as the candidates are selected by the American Idol Method. The public should not even vote on the presidency. When a man has to spend the better part of a billion dollars to get a $400K/yr job, there's a fundamental flaw with the "free election" process. My people are not free to worship as we please. Sure you are, just do it on "your" own turf. Your church isn't even taxed. I don't let Muslims into my home to rant about their god. Or Hindus. Or Christians. Likewise I don't want them doing the same anywhere I'm forced to spend my tax contributions, as that is "my turf" also. We want prayer in schools ... Meaning Christian prayer of course. Then have "your" own schools, not ones paid for with my tax money. (Actually, the government on any level should have nothing, NOTHING to do with education in America, anyway, but that's a different debate.) and to be able to post religious artifacts in public Post all you want on your own private property of whatever kind. Your home, your church, wherever. Buy a vacant lot and make it look like the Vatican. That's plenty public enough. I don't care to see a buddha OR crucifixion on my courthouse, or school, or public health clinic, or highway patrol station, or sanitation dept., etc. As always, your "rights should end where my nose begins" in both literal and figurative sense, and vice versa. One of the tenets of the founding fathers (and indeed, the pilgrims before them), was religious autonomy. Though often spouted by evangelists, America was NOT founded as a Christian nation but as a "nation under God" (and not under the British). Indeed, a good many of the signers of the Declaration were not Christians, but for lack of a better label, Deists. Like Jefferson. Like me. I guess I'm just not patriotic. - Oh "donning flame (and brimstone) retardant suit" Shoot
  19. Yeah, I guess folks like Joe McCarthy got a bad rap. Certainly one of the most "patriotic" guys of all. - OS
  20. Most intangible ideals, like "patriotism", "courage", "honor", "loyalty", many others, can be defined in a number of ways, and of course ill-defined to suit one's own ends. Patriotism can also be, as famously defined by Samuel Johnson, the last refuge of a scoundrel. - OS
  21. Helluva post. Truly. (quoted intact for emphasis) - OS
  22. Well, you pay the devil his due, fact of life...biz life, anyway. I wish I had to pay the IRS $200,00 each year. That would be fine with me. - OS
  23. I'm no longer selling "for profit" but selling much of what I own personally, trying to get more spartan, and liquidating old biz stuff for anything it's worth. Have one item I paid $15K for in '97, might get $400 tops, if that. Discretionary income is the first to go in bad times and though prices and action on eBay are certainly depressed, am selling, which is better than throwing away. And always some pleasant surprises. Has often reminded me of fishing. - OS
  24. We ended the breeding line with Pinkie. We became afraid, very afraid. - OS
