  1. I have the Taurus tracker in 22lr and at first I was impressed (key word, 'at first'). It's accurate; trigger was good if you cock it first. really handsome gun (still my avatar/pic on left as of now). Then I picked up a SW 686 and the Taurus is just dull in comparison. Literally too (they have this matte finish). Trigger/action is just not even a comparison. The fit and finish on a quality handgun will show. Just moving the 'cycling the cylinder' (is that what you call it) on the SW is pure pleasure. A Taurus is like driving a nice Honda Civic (no offense, I drive one) all these years; know it'll work if needed, Then step into an Acura or Lexus and you notice the smoother ride and better performance, nice little touches like seat warmers. There is a difference that you get when you pay more. Now I reckon there is a difference between the $600-$700 SW to a $1000 handgun...much like there is a difference between a Lexus and a BMW.
  2. anyone got a report on how this one is? especially if there is parking, i'd like to know if it's worth it.
  3. ops. i didn't see this one posted. =)
  4. There is also one really close to home (if you are in Nashville). Smyrna, TN - this weekend! (9/24 and 9/25)
  5. i really enjoy my Beretta Neo u22. It's very accurate. You have to try the grip though. it's a little different. maybe best for smaller hands. it's accurate. it's not picky on the ammo either.

It's improved shooting by I estimate 25%. (worthy improvement over the factory irons). The only complaint I had (perhaps wishing I went with the ultimak rail) was that I couldn't get a good cheek weld. I finally found the CAA check rest that fit perfectly on the tapco t6 stock. It works really well know. I would definitely recommend the Primary Arms as a great clone to the Aimpoints. the dots are nice and it doesn't feel cheap. The 'dogtail mount' (sits on top of the cover and includes a nice 'tech sight like' rear sight) + PA microdot' is probably a better set up but much more expensive. A final thought - it does make the rifle somewhat heavier and thus imho "less AK". I'm just waiting for someone to post that picture with the "take that stuff off that AK" caption. Shooting/handling a 'naked AK' just feels better.

  8. My experience with the plinkster was pretty negative (plain jane Mossberg Plinkster). It was a jam-o-matic and atleast a a few times, would 'fire' as it was loading from the magazine. (yep, scary as heck). It was sent to Mossberg but upon return it still would jam (all sorts of ammo). Finally, even Walmart took it back and gave me my $ back. I've heard decent things from others - I guess mine was just a very sour lemon. Around that price range, you could get a savage or a marlin. For a little bit more, you could get a ruger 10/22 (my personal opinion).
  9. As for age, I've seen families who bring kids as young as 7-8. I also saw someone bring their 80-ish year old grandpa. It is the whole day so bring what makes you comfy. It's also at your pace so if the wife needs a break, sit that round out. Most of us will be so eager to make 'rifleman' that you'll want every opportunity to shoot! It's a great family event. Good place to take a date. Good place to go on your own/you'll find friends quickly.
  10. a couple of links and hopefully some answers: Folks typically bring whatever rifle they have. of course considering the range requirements also. In this case - 223. I use a ruger 10/22 much like the one in the link below and bring a brick of 500 rounds from Walmart/etc. I bring a little mat (some folks bring a workout mat or carpet). It changed me from shooting sitting on a bench with a sandbag or bipod almost frustrated if I needed to get a more expensive scope or ammo or stock to get that better group TO learning how to shoot standing, sitting, prone and being much happier with my groups knowing it was actually 'me' and not technology. If you doubt 25 yards/meters... it's harder than you think. The targets are scaled down to hit man sized targets at different distances and even 'head shots' at 250 yards using ANY rifle/ammo. (With iron sights is you wish.) It's a great program. Also note that the folks helping with this are volunteers. Many will drive over an hour and 'give up' (I quote it because we don't see it as something we 'give up') a weekend. imho, totally worth it; just go out there. You'll learn more about our country, learn to shoot a little better (or for some like me, much better) and you get to make some friends. At worst, it's you get to shoot with a bunch of great company. 11. good info. I'll try it out without the bipod; that should shed the some weight as well. I tried some Federal Gold Match. (308) It shot about the same as the Hornady; maybe a little worst. But then again, i only tried one box and that was when it was really really new to me. The trigger may have had work done or already been changed. In any case, it's already really smooth and light (i don't have a way to measure it except for when I fondle other guns). I'll start with losing the bipod. (nice to know that my .75 groups with Hornady is 'typical'). Reloading is still an unknown world to me but I'm sure I'll mosey that way one day.
  12. wow. that's a $200-$250 stock. I didn't know that. Thanks for the info Dolomite. Also, what gave it away as a B&C vs a McMillan? Are there big differences between the 2?
  13. I'm still learning how to shoot. This is what I was able to manage off the bipod with Hornady 168 TAP ammo. The non touching group on the left is more typical (measures between half an inch to just under an inch). Once in a while, I'll get something touching like the one on the right... does that meet expectations or can I squeeze more accuracy without breaking the bank? (and practice time of course... i just have to eat less so my gun eats more).
  14. thanks Dolomite. I'll have to start to research that stock. Because i just learned how to post pictures, here is another picture...
  15. thanks for the info Dolomite. I'm still learning more about this rifle. So far it's fun! (just expensive to shoot). Probably the biggest think holding me back from shooting it well is that anxiety right before pulling the trigger that this 3 shot group will cost more than my lunch. anyone know what kind of stock is this?
  16. thanks! free gun porn:
  17. can someone point me to how to add a pic? I can add a url but how do you add an actual picture when you post? thanks,
  18. cancel that. it was missing the set screw...it just needed some 'gentle tapping' to take it out.
  19. I have one of these on my 10/22. Ruger 10-22 Muzzle Brake-Long by Barska - Rifle Muzzle Brake by Barska It came with the rifle. How do I take it off? (I'd like to install a new front site post). thanks,
  20. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/31/savage1i.jpg I assume this is a flat back: (where is the thread on how to post pictures?)
  21. Question. When did Savage start putting in the accutrigger on their 10FP rifles? I'm trying to figure out how old a certain rifle is. Thanks,

    22 revolver?

I'll 2nd tbone's Taurus Tracker. Very happy with the purchase. Accurate enough. Folks are always asking "what is that" because it's looks like such a mean revolver. (see avatar to the left)
  23. 22lr semi-auto rifles with detachable mags (like a ruger 10/22) are the most common...with reason. Here is a good read. Appleseed Project: The Liberty Training Rifle
  24. I just attended the one in Manchester today; any here go?
  25. question - do you need to register formally online. or can you just show up at the event and pay there?
