I've only bought one gun that needed a transfer and I paid $20. The gun was bought from a dealer in MO and there was no tax involved here. All he was doing was receiving the gun and the BG check before turning it over to me.

I carry a 40 cal Sig P226 Elite or an XD-40 compact 40 cal seems to be enough for me without going overboard. I think that everyone should carry what they are comfortable with.

They already have!! http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/29/house.slavery/index.html House apologizes for slavery, 'Jim Crow' injustices WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a resolution apologizing to African-Americans for slavery and the era of Jim Crow. The House on Tuesday evening passed a resolution apologizing for slavery and Jim Crow laws. The nonbinding resolution, which passed on a voice vote, was introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen, a white lawmaker who represents a majority black district in Memphis, Tennessee. While many states have apologized for slavery, it is the first time a branch of the federal government has done so, an aide to Cohen said. In passing the resolution, the House also acknowledged the "injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery and Jim Crow." "Jim Crow," or Jim Crow laws, were state and local laws enacted mostly in the Southern and border states of the United States between the 1870s and 1965, when African-Americans were denied the right to vote and other civil liberties and were legally segregated from whites. The name "Jim Crow" came from a character played by T.D. "Daddy" Rice who portrayed a slave while in blackface during the mid-1800s. The resolution states that "the vestiges of Jim Crow continue to this day." "African-Americans continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow -- long after both systems were formally abolished -- through enormous damage and loss, both tangible and intangible, including the loss of human dignity and liberty, the frustration of careers and professional lives, and the long-term loss of income and opportunity," the resolution states. The House also committed itself to stopping "the occurrence of human rights violations in the future." Don't Miss <LI _extended="true">In Depth: 'Black in America' iReport.com: Your take on 'Black in America' The resolution does not address the controversial issue of reparations. Some members of the African-American community have called on lawmakers to give cash payments or other financial benefits to descendents of slaves as compensation for the suffering caused by slavery. It is not the first time lawmakers have apologized to an ethnic group for injustices. In April, the Senate passed a resolution sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, that apologized to Native Americans for "the many instances of violence, maltreatment and neglect." In 1993 the Senate also passed a resolution apologizing for the "illegal overthrow" of the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1893. In 1988, Congress passed and President Reagan signed an act apologizing to the 120,000 Japanese-Americans who were held in detention camps during World War II. The 60,000 detainees who were alive at the time each received $20,000 from the government

Great letter UofM Matt! Let's hope that we can get more of us to do the same and make a difference. Let's hope that the dems lose control and they can replace Naifeh as the Speaker. Come on guys! Let's get it done!

I am reading "The ABC's of Reloading" then I have had a member here tell me that he will show me the basics to get me started. I am sure looking forward to that. Congrats on your new reloading kit!

I agree with Musicman, when you find an old guy like that it is great fun just to sit and listen. I figured out a long time ago that I don't learn near as much when I'm talking but I can learn a lot when I'm just listening. I spent a couple of hours back on the 4th of July 2007 listening to my wife's uncle while at a BBQ at the in-laws. There were 25 people or so there but he and I were alone. I guess that his sons had heard them all before. He was around 80 and he could tell some stories. Not the kind that made you wonder if he was pulling your leg but the kind that you just knew were true. You could see it in his eyes. That was the last time that I got to spend with Charlie. He died on Aug. 17, 2007. Everyone needs to find someone like Charlie and just sit, listen and learn. I wish that I could have done that with Marswolf! I know that he could have told some stories and a couple of hours would not have scratched the surface.

House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh Must Be Stopped!

+1 Around the bowl and down the hole GO JIMMY GO!!! Find your elected TN officials at this link. http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/officials.html -
Thanks! I think that it is time for us all to begin contacting our elected House and Senate representatives and let them know how we stand and that we want this to come to a vote next session if that is possible. It looks like the Senate passed it and was only waiting on the House. It looks like it passed the House on a voice vote and that A**hole Naifeh was the one who killed it. I am going to start emailing and faxing my legislators and I hope that EVERYONE here will do the same. There is a link below where you can find your Representative and Senator. I would recommend that we contact Naifeh too. Anyon living in his district should really pound him on this and also work to get him kicked out. I know that has been tried before but try again!!! http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/officials.html

Is there anyone that is going to get this revived? Do you know what the HB# and SB#"s were?
-
Does anyone know if this is scheduled to come back up before the legislature any time soon?

Has anyone that has just received you C&R FFL and registered with any C&R dealers found out about any good discounts. I have sent my copy in to Midway USA and now lists dealer prices on most everything that they have except for items that are already on sale. I also sent a copy to Brownell's and J&G Sales. I am not as interested in C&R weapons as I am with ammo and reloading supplies. Let us know what you have found.

I'll do all I can to make a shortage of Sig"s!! But I won't have any debt. Seriously though, If they would require that individuals would have to place at least 50% into something like a trust fund and then could spend no more than 50% of the remainder or 25% of the original amount on a home. People would also be allowed that same amount to bring a mortgage current, or pay off a mortgage, and have the payment drafted from the interest earned from the 500k that is in a savings acct of some sort. There is a start and I would rather see this type of program set up rather than this huge bailout but I think the whole thing stinks of socialism and we have no business going there.

Sounds logical to me but Washington doesn't understand logic so I won't hold my breath.
