  1. Thanks None of the Early M1 Carbines had bayonet lugs. Later carbines after mid '43 (I think) came with lugs and early carbines that went through a rebuild were outfitted with a lug and a different rear sight.
  2. Today my Dad asked me to stop by his house and take pics of my Grandfathers M1A1 Carbine. I was happy to do so and thought I would share them here since there are a few carbine fans on TGO. I have a few pieces of WWII gear that my grandfather gave me from when he was a WWII paratrooper in the 507th PIR (e.g. Compass, wings, etc). Pop was a real charater and was tough as nails until he passed away a few years ago. Pop was proud to be a paratrooper and talked of how hard they had to PT to "be ready". More than half of the 507th was KIA during D-day and the Battle of the Buldge... The 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment(PIR) during World War II Details: Early Highwood M1A1 Stock 6 digit Inland Rear peep sight No bayonet band
  3. I just called and the range is open...

  9. Thanks Randy... What brand of 30 Moa mount would you suggest. I have the EGW Fclass 20MOA extended on the rifle right now. However I may not need the extension on the rail because the stock has an adjustable LOP. The Sightron 10-50x60 has 50MOA of elevation to the NF 10-42's 40MOA... Would the Sightrons 50 + my 20 MOA mount get leave me enough room to get to 1,000?
  10. I am going to order a new scope today (or tomorrow) to use on a 600-1,000yd F-class T/R (.308) gun. I have narrowed my choice down to two scopes: Nightforce Benchrest Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 12-42x 56mm NP-2DD Reticle Sightron SIII Long Range Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 10-50x 60mm Side Focus 1/8 MOA Dot Reticle If the NF NXS with the 1/8 elevation clicks were out in the market I would consider it also. However, the NXS my cost a good bit more than the two listed above. I have a 20 MOA base and may need the extra 10MOA that the Sightron has built in... but I do like the proven track record of the NF products. I would appreciate any advice that folks with more experience may have to offer.

    GA Precision Rifles

I hear great things about George and GAP rifles. I do not own one but my M40A1 clone has an action that was clip slotted by GAP. What type of "range" are you looking for that is pushing you towads the .338 or 300WM?

  18. It is a beauty Congrats!
  19. Humm sounds like the teeth on your apature or pinion could be out of spec. Call CMP they will make it right. The removal of the rear sight is easy enough. You may want to try and tighten/loosen the screw on the rear sight and see if that will help.. If you remove the rear sight and clean it really well then it may help the teeth on the apature and pinion "bite" better, if not CMP may need to send you some parts. To remove the rear sight lossen the screw on the rear sight. The pinion should unscrew and come out. Pull the apature up a bit and use it as a lever to pop the dust cover off.. ... but you may not need to remove the base and cover unless there is a lot of gunk under the cover.
  20. Nice look'n rifle I had to put my USO Anticant towards the rear scope ring and there is barely enought room for it to close.
