My Joker co-worker got a surprise today
S&WForty replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I hate it when someone gets in MY space or touches me. I have one @$$ at work that would be the kind to do that very thing. He's always poking and hitting everyone. He's good for nothing but aggravating us. He's about 33. He'll never mature beyond the sad level he's at now. My office is a family run place, ~20 emplyees, and my pistol is on my ankle. It's been riding down there for about 6 weeks. No one has noticed it. Though I never realized how much people look down during conversation, as I am always watching to see where people look. Call me paranoid. LOL -
I'm another wanting to see pics! I have a '87 Comanche.

If you have kids, and they have friends come over (or even your adult friends come over), make sure the dog is socialized well with everyone. Some of these dogs that become protectors by instinct will sometimes see innocent playing or contact with your kids (by outsiders) as aggression and in turn get rather aggressive with your visitors.

Call your local LEO office and ask if they have tips on setting one up.

For eleven years I had two German Shepherds at a time. Watching them play, 'fight' for attention, and just comparing personalities is something I'll never forget. 2 is so much more fun than just 1. They were out during the day and in at night. Large dogs in the house isn't feasible for everyone, but that's how I did it. Large dogs want to be the center of attention just like little cutsey dogs, but being creatures of habit, they can adapt and be content anywhere.

I have a neighbour that loves the view it seem's.
S&WForty replied to Tobashadow's topic in General Chat
I am not sure how apples to apples this is, but the last time I read up on "photographer's rights," I can stand off your property and take photos of your house, but once I zoom and take a photo of the inside of your house, am I violating your privacy. I'm now in trouble. I really think BrasilNuts' post in onto something. Get proof they are looking inside your place, and it's likely something the LEOs can act on. And definitely get this documented with the authorities. I am sorry you got that to deal with. I'd be fit to be tied if I was in your position. -
If you don't find any Doberman sources in Middle TN, and you don't mind coming to Memphis, I can ask a neighbor where she gets hers. She's had Dobermans for years.

We buy nearly everything at Sam's now. We go to Kroger/Schnuck's after scanning their ads for sales and get only what's on sale. It seems all the staple items come from Sam's. Everyone I know that has had both said Costco beats Sam's in brand names and perks, but nothing has made me want to switch. I usually only buy food and other grocery store type products, but when I got an iPod Touch a year ago, it was $20 less than Walmart and all the big electronics stores.

The seller threw that in with the gun for free. I'm glad I finally tried it out. I never would have thought the pistol would fit comfortably between me and my semi tight jeans. LOL I've worn that holster with shorts and a standard belt while washing my car and other stuff having me bend and stoop over. The pistol doesn't budge a bit in that thing, but I just don't like it sitting so high with respect to my belt.

Is your Uncle Mike's the one that won't let the shirt tuck in? Or something different?
-
Looks like I'll give the SuperTuck a try. The MTAC isn't available for my SW990L, and there's no immediate plans to add that to their lineup. Titan's reply on the Tuck-This II killed it for me. The plan is to wear it all day. Thanks everyone!
-
Which do you like best, and why? Comp-Tac does not list a MTAC for the SW99, but they do for the C-TAC model. I've emailed Comp-Tac asking is it possible to make a MTAC since the Kydex portions should be very similar or the same. I like the MTAC's covering the entire barrel length while the SuperTuck doesn't. I've read where some with the SuperTuck have an issue of the barrel wearing their pants thin. Which clips do you use for each model? I am a little concerned about those being visible when trying to conceal.
-
I've been wearing my pistol on my ankle, and for my environment, it's fine, but out of curiosity, I tried the Uncle Mike's Sidekick that I was given with the pistol. I am rather chunky, and I never dreamed I could wear on my hip. Now knowing I can wear there, I decided to look for something I can tuck over, and something that will let the pistol sit lower. The DeSantis Tuck-This II seemed like the ideal upgrade, but then I read about the CrossBreed SuperTuck Deluxe. Then I saw positive comments on the Comp-Tac line. So, it's down to those three. Concealment takes a slight priority over comfort. I can wear on the ankle long term but having a fully concealed IWB carry would be a nice option.

Did you ever get one? What's your carry piece?

Thanks for the replies! I shot it today. First time ever. It was pretty neat. I didn't pretend to be the Rifleman or anything. I just shot it nice and slow.

I have a '60s vintage Marlin .22 Lever-action rifle. I recently bought a Walther P22 that usually requires high velocity ammo like the CCI Mini Mags for best operation (at least during break-in supposedly to prevent jams). Will the high velocity ammo harm the old rifle? The rifle was stored with about 10-15 rounds that are at least 20 years old. Should those be tossed? Thank you!

Removing every last bit of fouling?

I've got a few more questions. I got a large bottle of Hoppe's #9 last night along with a small bottle of the BreakFree CLP and a can of Shooter's Choice Polymer Safe Quick Scrub Action Cleaner. I don't totally understand the directions for the CLP. I know it cleans. Do you clean with it, then after moving the parts reapply it for the lubrication? It didn't outright say re-apply. If it's just one application cleans and lubricates, I rather pre-clean with something to get most of the gunk out. (that's why I got the Shooter's Choice Quick Scrub) On a lot of the barrel cleaning products, I saw the warning "do not cork the barrel." Is that a warning to prevent someone from reassembling a pistol with the bore blocked, or is there another reason for not corking the barrel? I bought a small salt-shaker at WalMart (that old-timey kind), and I am going to fill it partially full with the Hoppe's then let the barrel soak in it. I had considered finding an old sponge or wad up part of a paper towel to hold the Hoppe's in the barrel. But that's corking it up... Any additional tips would be appreciated. -

Lotta good replies. I knew this would turn into OC vs CC. Everything else does. I'll happily admit before I got bit by the gun bug and learned all about permits and the law, if I saw someone open carrying, I'd either assume they were a cop, or I'd be a little worried. It's all about what you know. The comments about people being conditioned by what they see on TV is spot on! And... IS THE QUOTE OF THE THREAD! -
Removing every last bit of fouling?

Thanks Leroy and Hex! Nearly all shots have been with WWB FMJ or similar (FMJ). I assume the "jacket" is copper. Right? -
I have read and been told a few times that over-cleaning a pistol can be worse than not cleaning it. On both of my barrels, it seems that I can run the brass(?) brush through it and follow with a cleaning strip, and it will keep removing fouling everytime. I can quit using the brush and just keep using the strips and they'll start coming out clean, but one more pass with the brush, and more is broken loose. With "over-cleaning," what part of that is bad? The wire brush, the chemicals, or both? If it's only or mainly due to the wire brush, is there a cleaner that the barrel can soak in to better loosen up the fouling? Right now I use one of the Hoppe's kits. The first few times I shot my pistols, the inside of the barrels came perfectly clean when I cleaned them with the same kit. There are now a few places where fouling between the lands and grooves won't budge. I don't know what to do that is best for the barrels. Any advice is appreciated! (they are a SW99QA and SW990L)

Don't forget the goth/weirdos! Regarding the bigotry comments, that is not exclusive to the South. 12 years traveling in the north on my job has confirmed that.

Good stuff, but it would be funnier if some of the medical ailments not related to one's character were replaced with other Wal-Mart patron characteristics.

There's many good replies here (all of them!). If you knew him as I do, you'd know this is the only time he's ever come out on the liberal side of an issue. That is what shocked me so much. This logic is to be expected from the card-carrying Libs. BillofRightsFan said it best. My co-worker is thinking with emotion rather than logic. I need to tell him to just go ahead and become a full-fledged liberal. LOL I guess the lesson to be learned for all is don't assume all "conservatives" support our rights. When we can't count on them, it sure makes winning policy/law changes that much more difficult.
