    338 win mag?

i have been thinking about getting a big bore gun for some big game hunting....i have been thinking about the 338 win mag in either a winchester model 70 or remington 700. is this a good caliber for big game with somewhat low recoil? or is there a better caliber to go with? i have heard bad things about sort magnums or ultra mags. is this considered a short mag? i have been thinking about a safari hunt in africa when my wife and i got next year so i want to be able to say "but my deer gun is good enough to take big game honey, just let me go for a day or two." i hope it will work!!! lol

    keltec 380

i am now the proud owner of a keltec p3at. i have wanted one for a long time and ran up on a deal...5 mags nib with 100 rounds ammo for 300. i already ordered a pocket holster for it. is there anything i need to do to the gun, i have heard stories of them not shooting and they are a piece of junk but then i hear they are great. anyways, i bought it and love it. has anyone had a bad/good one?
  10. i'm looking for some 38-55 winchester ammo to use in my 1894. if you have any or know of where some is please let me know! thanks
  11. well, i took and shot the gun this weekend....well, tried to shoot it. the shells wouldnt seat all the way in the chamber...took it home and found the round metal part of a pencil top eraser jambed in the chamber....you couldnt see it. so, i bought a perfect gun that needed put back together for $40!! i wonder if someone was playing a joke on the guy i bought it from? maybe a mad wife who didnt want him to hunt anymore! lol
  12. one of my friends bought 2 stack ons with the touch pads. and in the first year he had to send both of the touch pads in for new ones because they were messing up. i have had my old dial kind and works great! slow, but great
  13. i've been waiting all year to go hunting with my new 700 bdl dm in 30-06 with a 3x9 leupy!!! i've got a cold, wife is nagging at me to stay home because hunting 4 times this season just must be too much for her(grrrrr), but i'm gonna be out there hoping to get something! got a 8 pointer in m/l now i need a doe or a really really big buck!!!
  14. i guess i need to get to good old wally world soon, i think all the hot hands are going to be gone!! should have gone last night!!!! grrrr :-\
  15. i bought a marlin 336 and it was all in 1 box taken apart for $40. clean gun with a cheap tasco scope but not a bad buy for $40 if i can fix it, having no clue what's wrong with it. so, i put the gun together and the lever will not stay closed, it opens 1/2 inch unless you keep it held shut. well, what i found was the lever was bent keeping the detant from going over the roll pin that keeps it closed. the only way i can see how it got bent would be if the bolt stuck open and the pryed on the lever until it closed. has anyone else ran into anything like this? the bolt staying stuck open after you shoot it? i'm going to shoot it saturday after i hunt so i will find out then if it was the problem or the symptom.

    Decisions decisions

if you want a single action i would go with the 45 long colt! but if you want a hunting or carry double action i would go with the 44 mag!
  17. i thought about redoing the 12 ga bolt from sears i had...but instead i gave it to my dad for his birthday so i wouldn't think about spending my time on it, and than i found this model 11 to do instead. good luck with yours.
  18. well, i did the trigger and trigger housing and so far so good!! i will keep you guys posted on how it is going and try to get some pictures up...
  19. i'm in nashville/hendersonville
  20. i'm wanting to get the 8 pointer i shot mounted. i found a guy that does them for 275 said it would be march before he could get it back to me. i know the price is pretty good. does anyone else know of anyone resonable?
  21. i think i will do the trigger assy first, that way i have something smaller and less noticable to learn on.
  22. ok, so i just a little spot at a time and try to blend it, i don't try and do it all at once? i guess you would want the chemical to have the same amount of reaction time so it would have the same look to it.
  23. i have an old remington model 11 that has some wear and tear on it and i've decided to try and learn how to blue something. what is the best way to go about this? i saw a kit at the store for $35 that had 3 bottles with it to redo it. does this stuff work, i think it's called cold blue. any advice on how i should do this? do i strip it down with sandpaper or......any help would be nice!
  24. sounds like a sweet little set up! i've got a 228 and it shoots awesome!
  25. well, my neighbor said i didnt get any mileage out of the deer because i took it straight to the processor. apparently i'm supposed to go rub it in all my friends faces that i've shot the biggest thing this year. i got 1 picture but i'm going to get it mounted and will get pictures than. i'm still learning....lol
