  1. that sums it up! but if i had to say something...G27 and my grandfather's smith model 36 in mint condition(my grandmother sold the gun in 1978 when he died and i tracked it down last year and drove to ohio to pick it up. traded the guy a taurus 357)
  2. oh, it does have the bedding block...
  3. i just ordered a bell and carlson stock for my remington 700 in 30-06 to replace the camo synthetic stock it came with(buckmaster edition) i have heard some pretty good things about bell and carlson and h s precision. since money is tight with the new house, i decided to try a bell and carlson as they are $150 or so cheaper than the h s precision. has anybody ever tried one, are they as good as the h s? i got the gray with black webbing. i will post pictures as soon as i get it and when i find the right box with my camera cable. lol
  4. well, gentlemen, my time in africa was a bust. pretty much anything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. i was just very glad that my wife and i made it home safely. we had an orphanage over there and saw that we needed to shut it down....it was a very rough trip. all well, maybe i can talk my wife into that elk hunt for 2011.
  5. all right guys, the time is finally here for my wife and i to go to africa! i am still not sure if i am going to have enough room to take a rifle with me for my hunt( our main purpose in going is to see our orphanage and friends over there). i am hoping to get a wild bore or an antelope or some sort. i believe i will be using a spear, traps, and dogs. we are also planning on going on a gorilla tour, i think it should be pretty neat to see them wild and in the jungle! we leave tuesday morning and will be gone for 2 weeks. i will let you guys know how it went when i return, hopefully i will have plenty of pictures
  6. being made in 1948 it should be a flat band model. meaning the band at the end of the barrel is flat instead of rounded. did it for several years after the war and that was it. it should also have the longer 9 inch forearm instead of the shorter 7 inch they changed to a few years later(maybe early to mid 50s if i remember correctly) you have a very nice firearm there, keep it or sell it to me! it would go good in my cabinet!!
  7. the gun is toast and you should give it to me! jk, should be fine if you do what everyone on here has told you. good luck and that stinks about your car.
  8. anybody have any good loads for a 243 shooting a 62gr bullet? my book only goes to 70gr. i looked some up online but they seemed like they were reduced loads as the powder gr was the same as the 70 gr and i think it should be a tad more.
  9. i bought my dad a ruger lcp from someone off of here back on november(he had replaced it with a sig 380). he said he never had any problems out of it, but everytime my dad shoots it, it wont load. the nose of the bullet hits the ramp and it locks it up. does it need a fluff and buff or is it a magazine problem? he has tried several different types of ammo and the same thing happens. if anyone has any ideas it would be great, and if the person i bought the gun from could tell me what ammo he was shooting i will be glad to give that brand a try as well. thanks!
  10. i am needing to buy some bullets to load my new 243, i am looking at nosler 55gr spitzer ballistic tip or barnes 62gr grenades. i saw the hornady 55gr vmax moly but i don't know what the moly is good for or if i should even bother with it. any ideas? oh, i'm planning on trying 3031 and 4064 and see which does best.
  11. it is a remington 700 sps with a leupold scope.
  12. yea, it is sighted in now!!! little 243 does good with hornady 100btsp factory loads, it didn't care for the 58gr vmax that much, couldn't get it down to less than a inch group where the 100gr would do a 1/2 or less. i'm going to do some reloading for it now and get it liking the 58gr....i hope
  13. the family and i came up to indiana for a family gathering. i always bring guns to shoot and play with. well, i brought my new remington 700 in 243, i had only bore sighted it and only fired 3 shots to clean it between each shot and not really sight it in. well, i was wasting time talking to family and not sighting in my gun....we sat down to eat and there is a nice yote walking through the field at 200 yards, i run out and grab my gun.....i shot 6 inches behind him....i sure wish i would have sighted in my gun instead of talking to drew!!! lol i drove around looking to find him after dinner but didn't find him. if i would have had my 700 in 30-06 he would be in the back of the truck for sure!
  14. i am in the same boat!! i have 2 young kids and hunting time can be slim, but my hunting season is going to be broken up by a mini hunting trip in africa. it will probably only be for one day but should still be fun even if i don't get anything!

    duracoat

i have blued before and it turned out good, but for some reason i can't get this to look up to par. i think duracoat will work good, i hope...lol

    duracoat

i think i will give it a try....does it last as long as blue does or better?

    duracoat

i have some guns i am needing to blue but i'm not happy with how it is turning out i was thinking about using the gun metal blue duracoat, has anyone tried this stuff? it seems to be pretty cheap, just wondering if it works.
  18. what kind of ammo are you shooting?
  19. a buddy of mine has a brand new escort shotgun he is trying to sell me. it is a 12 ga pump 5+1 with a 18.5(i think) barrel. i haven't heard of escort and i am sure it is a cheap shotgun but i was wondering if anybody had any good/bad stories about them and if i should even try it as a beater gun.
  20. man that is a heavy gun!! i would like to get the guide gun with the 18 1/8 barrel!!
  21. +1,000 hunting101! by the way, you can't register over the phone, it must be online. i'm hoping to do so tomorrow, if i have time.
  22. glock all the way. i have had kahrs and taurus, i have had 3 or 4 of taurus pistol or revolvers and i have had to fix every single one of them. even the new ones gave me problems. i don't care if i ever own one again, i still own the 357 just as a cheap wheal gun but will replace it when a good deal on a ruger or smith come around. the kahr has a long trigger but functions well and shoots good. glocks are just the best choice IMO, i have never been let down at all with a glock.
  23. awesome. a bad day of shooting can really suck if things go really wrong! lol
  24. i said it looked kind of like the 238, he stated earlier it was the colt new agent. i have never really been a big fan of the cocked and locked carry. i tried carrying my colt officers model and it just didn't do it for me, went back to the glocks. i would like to shoot that thing for sure!
  25. i love 1911s but don't know that i would carry one. that looks kind of like the sig 238 but a bigger grip
