  1. i'm trying to decide if i should call the game warden and speak with him about it and try to clear it up and let him know it was a misunderstanding, or if i should just forget about it and hope they never catch it. i don't know if they check at the end of the year for this kind of thing, or if there is a computer system that finds mistakes when they are checked in. i would like to find where they had unit A labeled as unit B and print it off, but i haven't found that info yet.
  2. i guess that is what i get for believing what he said instead of lookig it up. i can't seem to find the page on tn.gov about hunting regulations. if someone finds it please let me know so i can print it off before they correct it.
  3. the only reason i told my friend it was ok was because i talked with a game warden 3 weeks before opening rifle season, we got to talking and i brought up doe hunting in unit A and that i hunted in jackson county. he agreed and said that it was legal to do so now. i didn't feel the need to check and make sure he told me the truth, but now i wish i would have. i think i should call that game warden and talk with him tomorrow. but i also wonder if it is best to just lay low...not sure. i will try and find that page and print it off, maybe that will help.
  4. i wonder what the fee is for killing the wrong thing?
  5. where are you finding that info?
  6. i took my friend hunting with me and he killed his first deer satruday during rifle season. i hunt in jackson county, and up until this year, you couldn't shoot antlerless during rifle season. they recentely changed the law(or so i thought) so you can shoot doe during rifle season in jackson county. my friend just bought his big game license and i told him he could shoot a doe now, and he did. he checked it in and now he is double checking what i told him, but now i can't find it in the booklet or online. did i just get my friend in trouble or am i just not finding it?
  7. that's crazy. i did wonder why they didn't just say buck or doe tags, makes sense now.
  8. really, an antlered doe? i know i am pretty new to deer hunting, but is that a common thing or pretty rare?
  9. took my buddy hunting and he shot his first deer saturday, it was a doe that field dressed at 85lbs. we took it to the processor and i saw a good 8pointer that was still in full velvet. i thought by the end of november all the velvet should be off, i found it odd. is it more common than i think?
  10. i know conditions aren't great, but a friend and i have planned a camping and hunting trip for this weekend since last year. we may not shoot anything, but we should still have a great time. you never know what will happen during the rut!
  11. i will look into rechargeable batteries. thanks for the speaker, that will be great. do you know how long the batteries last? should i take extra batteries if i plan to hunt for several hours? or do they last for a couple days? guess i should always have some as a back up
  12. i got one last night, and i like it a lot. there is a way to plug in a nother speaker to make it louder. i don't want to spend a ton of money on the next model, i think this will work for now, maybe if i get hooked i can upgrade! lol
  13. i am thinking about buying a digital caller from foxpro, midsouth has them for 199. are they worth the money? i remember hearing good things about them, but want to make sure before is spend my money! lol i want to hunt bobcats and yotes and hoping this will help call them in.
  14. man oh man, that is awesome of you to offer that, i wish i was closer to you
  15. i'm headed off to the garage to load up some more 168gr berger bullets for my 30-06, my new 405 winchester is dead on at 100 yards with 300gr hornady spire points(ya gotta love the winchester 1895!) my biggest decision is which rifle to take with me, i love having a scoped rifle, but i look forward to killing something with my new 405! we will see
  16. thanks whiskey, those barnes bullets look pretty good, i will give them a shot. i went back and looked for the deer again today, did a 250+yard search, i didn't even find a chewed leg, bone or smell anything dead. i guess i just had buck fever and missed. lol maybe i will get him on during rifle season. i am going to play with my muzzle loader loads for next year and try some new bullets.
  17. i am building a good scout gun and i need a good pistol scope to mount on top of it. it is a marlin 336sc in 30 30. i am looking for something like 2-7 or just a 1x if they make it. anybody have any good scopes for a decent price, i don't want to spend $200 on a $200 gun. lol
  18. it didn't work for me but thanks, i will try marlinowners
  19. i just picked up a marlin 336CS in 3030. it has a 2/3 mag and is in need of some loven! i was told it was the first year of production but not sure. the serial number is E193## does anybody have any info as far as what year it was made? i have info for winchesters but no marlins as this is my first marlin lever action. i have plans for making it a great brush gun with a scout scope and a 16 inch barrel. i will take before and after pictures and post it when i am done.
  20. glad you found that, that could be bad real quick!
  21. i didn't take it that way howler
  22. i just called powerbelt and spoke with them, they said that using 3 pellets shouldn't effect the bullet. said they find several cases where the bullets don't penetrate all the the way through and grenade, with both 2 and 3 pellets. i think kahrman said it best "It seems to me that muzzle loading bullets are not as consistent at expanding as modern centerfire ammo."
  23. sounds like it doesn't matter what powder charge you are using, you aren't going to get an exit wound very often
  24. i don't shoot 150gr because it makes me feel macho, if 100 gr will do the job and help my bullets perfom better, i will try it. i sighted it in with 150 gr because thompson center told me 100gr was only good to 100 yards and if i was going to shoot past that, i would have to use 150gr. it is not a macho thing and the gun shoots very very well with 150 gr. i will sight it in with 100 gr and see what my bullets perfrom like.
