I have set up all night with my poncho on and some of the old Army heat tabs and they dried me out and kept me warm enough not to die. Have also used other types of heat producing products, just don't breathe the fumes or have bad gas! Containing fire/heat like that is really a great solution for drying out in bad weather.

I do not think you will go wrong with either or AMD but like said the graphics card is what will be the big gain. Cooling on is also a big factor when you go heavy with graphics or high end CPU's or both. Just what little I know. Hopefully you will have much fun doing and learning together.

If fairly new I would bet on the main control board. Also if you have had any power outages or shut the system down hard the board can be affected.
