Giffords and Kelly: Fighting gun violence
raydog1 replied to BLACKVANDRIVER's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
“I have a Glock 9 millimeter, and I’m a pretty good shot.†http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/11/us/11guns.html?ref=global-home&_r=0 Yep. Turned on us big time! The fight just became tougher. -
Piers Morgan Threatens to Deport Himself
raydog1 replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Talk about "murder" he's getting murdered in the comments section. That said, he's just stoking the fires of controversy. He's going nowhere and hoping to get even more exposure. He'll squeeeeeeze every drop out of those blood-soaked children as long as it benefits his career. He's always been a lover of tabloid journalism and CNN has lost any shread of credibility it had left by backing him. -

Old video that's going viral now. Apparently CNN found an audience way back in September who seems to think Piers is wrong. I guess he corrected THAT after this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kv9ZoiG1Cyw -
I understand why they'd be against it. They fear training may promote ownership/carry. Irrational fear at its worst. Training is just training. And it might come in handy if a student brings a gun to school and it falls out of their bag. The teacher will know how to make it safe until the authorities arrive.

Agreed. No one on either side is suggesting the Pres & his family shouldn't have armed protection, nor is anyone suggesting the Secret Service shouldn't carry guns. It's a universal joke that's been said a million times by a million people. Why pick on this little joke when he's said & done so much worse? "Clinging to bibles and guns. . . "

Holy AK/AR!!!!!! Have you looked at Gunbroker prices today??!!?
raydog1 replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
I was wondering the same thing. Sure enough though, a search for PMAG brings up nearly 500 results. A bunch of them "newly listed" for some reason. :squint: -
Wayne's been booked on Meet The Press this Sunday. Set your DVRs. Should be interesting considering the media excoriation of him and the NRA today.

Cancellation of gun-related TV shows
raydog1 replied to leftyk82's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Just wait until they find the vid of Jerry Miculek shooting 12 shots in under 3 seconds with a (GASP!) revolver. -
Piers Morgan is an obtuse idiot
raydog1 replied to walton6467's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not normally, but YES. Only because he's devoted the entire week to eliminating any and all gains we've had in the past 10 years. He's waging a full-on war with the 2nd Amendment. That is no lie, exaggeration, or fear-mongering. Just daily programming on CNN at 8:00 & 11:00. Do not watch if you wish to retain your sanity! -

Piers Morgan is an obtuse idiot
raydog1 replied to walton6467's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I turned on the tv just in time to see that part. John Lott handled himself very well. He was trying his best to answer Piers' questions in the order he was asking them, but Piers' decided that the only really important question was the rate-of-fire question. I also noticed the sea of anti-gun people in the "audience" that surrounded him who just looked as though their job was to give Lott the perpetual stink-eye and dote on every word from Piers' pie-hole. Lott really didn't have a chance in that environment. I was suprised they didn't stand up and cheer Piers as he demonized Lott before the commercial break. Maybe they were instructed not to do that in order to show some semblance of civility. -

Piers Morgan is an obtuse idiot
raydog1 replied to walton6467's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think you're probably right. He'll never win against Hannity & Maddow though. I think he's only succeeded in turning off some of his viewers and pushing them to other non-news programming. People who actually watch CNN don't watch it for WWE-style interviews. CNN actually won the weekend Mass Shooting coverage and Anderson Cooper was in a virtual tie (Ibehind Fox of course) with Ed Show AND Lawrence O'Donnell for his 2 time slots on Monday. But Piers couldn't keep up the momentum and lost handily to Hannity & Maddow. In short, he sucks. -

He has been on a TEAR all week. I'm still trying to decide if he's a true believer or if this is just a desperate attempt for a ratings grab. http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2012/11/piers-morgan-criticized-hated-than-ignored In person, Morgan is less brash than on the air, a disconnect that is explained by his belief that the more on-camera controversy he courts the better his ratings will be. He wants to be loved, but he’d take being hated over being ignored. He and his handlers are aware that the worst thing he can do is make no impression at all. He seemed almost painfully concerned with his image. There wasn’t a critique of him that he hadn’t heard. His friend Simon Cowell says, “He is sensitive to criticism, much more so than I am. This is the sort of person who will Google himself 20 times a day to find something positive.†http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/12/18/cable-news-ratings-for-monday-december-17-2012/162183/ Net 9PM P2+ (000s) 25-54 (000s) 35-64 (000s) FNC Hannity 1,606 387 718 CNN Piers Morgan Tonight 962 309 420 MSNBC Rachel Maddow Show 1,159 340 495 CNBC APOCALYPSE 2012 224 138 153 HLN Dr. Drew ON CALL 310 126 156 -
Fear of being committed; and we must pay...
raydog1 replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Statistically, mentally ill individuals are far more likely to be victims instead of perpetrators. She probably feared for his safety and wanted him to be able to protect himself. What's missing from this story is if he ever made any violent threats to her or anyone else that went unheeded. We may never know the answer to that considering both are dead and he doesn't appear to have had anyone outside the home to confide in. -
And they'll have several to quote from before it's all said and done. A-ratings from the NRA might as well be scarlet letters now: http://wtvr.com/2012/12/17/mark-warner-on-gun-control-laws/

As expected, NRA loyalists are going to start falling, one-by-one until the NRA leadership is promoting compromise: http://www.nrapvf.org/news-alerts/2010/09/nra-pvf-endorses-joe-manchin-for-us-senate-in-west-virginia.aspx http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/17/joe-manchin-gun-control_n_2314782.html Manchin also appears to be the first senator with an "A" rating from the NRA to go on national television in the wake of the Newtown shooting. On Sunday, David Gregory of NBC's "Meet the Press" said all 31 "pro-gun rights" senators in the new Congress turned down his request to appear on the show. CBS's "Face the Nation" said it ran into a similar problem. Manchin spokeswoman Emily Bittner told The Huffington Post their office had no record of "Meet the Press" reaching out to interview the senator on Sunday. In Monday's interview, Manchin was critical of assault rifles, saying no hunter needs a weapon like that, although he didn't explicitly say he would back Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-Calif.) ban on such weapons, which she has said she will introduce in the new year. "I don't know anyone who in the hunting or sporting arena that goes out with an assault rifle. I don't know anybody that needs 30 rounds in the clip to go hunting," Manchin said. "I mean, these are things that need to be talked about." While the NRA has always opposed such a ban in the past, Manchin said he believed the nature of the tragedy in Newtown changed the landscape. "What's happened -- it's always been to the point when once you open it up, pretty soon you'll give up your whole Second Amendment rights, taking guns away and people not allowed to have guns. That's not what this should be about," Manchin said. "Millions and millions of people are proud gun owners, and they do it responsibly and by the law. So I think opening up and seeing the massacre of so many innocent children, it's changed. It's changed America. We've never seen this happen." Manchin also said, however, that the NRA should have a seat at the table during the gun control debate. "What I want to do is I want to call all our friends in the NRA and sit down and have this -- bring them into it," he added. "They have to be at the table."

A Short Tweet exchange between Pierce Morgan and Carol Roth
raydog1 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Years from now, when our children ask me, "Daddy, when did you fall in love with mommy?" I'll be able to say, "It was on Dec. 5, 2012 when I read her Twitter smack-down of Pierce Morgan over the Constitution and his lack of reading comprehension." Hot & Smart = How I like 'em. -
Probably not a shocker to most but she may not be so undecided after all: http://freebeacon.com/assault-weapons-question-came-from-registered-dem/ Oh yeah, and she's a Bloomberg fan: http://twitter.com/NYCMayorsOffice/status/259313406258073601/photo/1/large

If they hand Pres. Romney an AW-ban bill, it will only be a symbolic gesture from the Dems to say, "See, he doesn't care about the CHILDREN! Hillary 2016!!!" But it would take some serious voodoo to get it through the House unless something really bad goes down next month. If Obama gets another term, he'll give it the old Harvard try and might still fail. But it won't matter if he stacks the Supreme Court. Hillary will gladly pick up where he leaves off.
-
Amen. It's gonna be close.
-
Neither candidate was comfortable with that question. Obama skimmed over the AW-ban as fast as he could and went straight after Romney's Mass. AW-ban. Romney said he doesn't support any new laws as fast as he could get the words out of his mouth and went straight after Obama for Fast and Furious. And they moved on without any protest. Neither candidate wanted to duke it out over this. Even the CNN anchors barely mentioned this exchange during the after-show. America isn't interested. It's all about the jobs. Only Nina Rodriguez & the Brady Bunch doesn't understand this yet: http://bradycampaign.org/media/press/view/1540/

Man claiming SYG in TX after initiating confrontation
raydog1 replied to TMF's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yup. But anything castle doctrine or SYG related is under attack these days and this guy is on tape actually saying, "I'm standing my ground here." I don't think we've had a case like that before. I expect that quote to be put on blast for a long time.
