  1. Hey all. I haven't bought any quantity of .22 to speak of since all this crap began. I've been patiently waiting for the craze to die down so I can walk into Wally World and occasionally buy one brick. Judging by what I'm reading here and elsewhere, things really are improving. Tonight at Wally on Charlotte in Nashville there seemed to be plenty of everything - except of course .22. Talked to the ammo counter guy a bit the last few times I've been by to check, and apparently they get a fair quantity in, but there are ten old retired idiots in line to snatch it up as soon as it comes off the truck at 7 AM "to prepare for the apocalypse," in their own words. So after having time to process this, it just makes me mad. Now, I wouldn't pee on a reseller if they were on fire, but why should these guys continue to pad their already very comfortable stashes (that will probably be largely untouched when they die) while guys like me can't even plink. In short, I've had enough. Not that I expect people to be unselfish, especially in the face of any kind of shortage, but enough is enough. I'm determined to get a brick, and a few over time, of .22. Thing is I have several finicky .22s, and the ammo they all agree on is a Federal bulk. So beggars can't be choosers, but I am really looking for a Federal brick. Automatch would of course be fine as well. SO - sorry for the rant. The point of this thread is to ask whether anyone can give a heads-up on getting some .22 in the Nashville area. I don't have the luxury of being able to be at Walmart every morning at 6:30 just in case some .22 comes in, unlike the Old Moron Hoarder/Reseller/Wannabe Survivalist Brigade. Anybody know of a Walmart that gets .22 on a semi-regular basis? And approximately what time it tends to come in? Thanks for the help, all. Ordinary guys unite! Down with in-line-every-day fudds!!
  2. Two options, one of them already getting good press above:     1.  Have second, easily-accessible gun permanently in vehicle.  I do this; there aren't a lot of carry options that are car-friendly.  All the carry options that work best for me are rotten from in a car. 2.  If you find yourself having to draw from inside a car, remove your seat belt FIRST.  You want to have the option of mobility, and if you draw first you're pretty much going to ensure that an arm and probably the pistol is going to end up tangled in the seat belt.  Do train this, since it will not happen flawlessly without practice, and for darn sure not the first time under stress.  While your strong hand grips the gun still holstered, unlock seat belt with other hand and throw it out of the way.
  3. I actually have gone to the second cutter.  Maybe done 1500 cases on it - but believe me, it took FOREVER.  Like forever.  I will definitely look at it ASAP.
  4. Man, I have no idea - I just plugged it in and started it up.  I've done about a billion cases of 223 on it, and it's real hard to tell when it's cutting and when it can't.  It sounds *slightly* different when it's not cutting, but it's really hard to tell, and I have excellent hearing.  I did have to get a replacement holder since I must have over-torqued the one that came with it.  So hmm...I didn't know it could turn the wrong way, but that would seem to actually be a logical explanation!!  It can't be this hard...nobody would ever buy anything but a Giraud if it were!!
  5. Ok, so since I spent over $250 on THIS it should so be doing a better job than a $70 chuck. It just takes so long - I just looked at one youtube of a guy who had just taken the thing out of the box, and it was super easy to tell when the thing was cutting and when it was done, and it took like <5 sec each. SO - I've got to be doing something wrong, or the thing is screwed up. I'm going to take it by maybe A&H in Nashville and have him look at it. THERE HAS to be a way. And you guys are awesome for all the responses - fantastic ideas here. Whoosh, I need to go lay down - too much crabmeat :yuck:
  6. Nope.  Let me go ahead and recommend that, if like me, you didn't understand at first, just go to bed.
  7. Well now, that's a good question, Red.  Maybe tomorrow afternoon if I can get into the reloading cave I can see how things are looking.
  8. K, I did have to google that, and WOW.  I'm not sure humanity is worth it - at all.  Yay for Philly!  Wow.  Wow.  Remind me never to use Craigslist again ever.             Ever.         Never ever.
  9. Hey all. I'm signed up for a rifle class in mid-June, and I actually, by the grace of God, managed to acquire all the reloading components necessary to show up with 700 rounds of 223. Because I so strongly despise trimming brass, a while back I purchased the motorized Lyman brass trimmer, but it sure does take me 30 seconds to a minute to do every case. I got X-dies so I'd only have to do it once, but I seriously think I'm too stupid to keep proper track of everything to make those work for me. The thought of trimming 700 cases makes me want to go hang myself, but if it's the only way, it's the only way. I'd DEFINITELY buy a Giraud if I hadn't just bought a house, which apparently exceeds even a boat in being a money pit. Is there anybody near Nashville that might be so kind as to let me run some .223 cases on their Giraud? This would be a ONE-TIME THING, I promise!! The last thing I would do to reward your kindness would be to invite myself over all the time to trim brass. I sure appreciate the heck out of anybody even CONSIDERING this. I figured this would be the safe place to ask...if I asked on arfcom I'd probably end up talking to this guy or more likely this guy and Lord I hope not this guy Castboolits would probably get me this guy who would be hecka nice but in the end wouldn't actually have a Giraud. Or a .223. But he would for sure be able to cast some pretty boolits for a .45-70. Thanks, all - I owe somebody in advance.
  10. It's a good thing I'm not a betting man!!!!
  11. Thanks man, I didn't know that. They got any deals on anything?
  12. Hi all - I've spent my time exclusively on 2m and 440 as it allows me reliable communication with those I want to communicate with. I'd be obliged to hear your opinions on this: is HF reliable at all? Some of the early posts piqued my interest - I've got no desire to sit in the dark twiddling knobs and listening to static, but if I could somewhat reliably establish communications with a specific person over a few hundred miles, that would be worth trying to find an HF rig for. Thoughts? Thanks.
  13. In that case, I'll stay home tomorrow in order to avoid the bloodbath that will surely plague every eating establishment in the fair state of Tennessee.
  14. When does it go into effect????
  15. Hey, I'm with you - it would stand to reason that good samaritans should be covered. However, I think they made a big deal about this with the Tennessee Locksmith Licensing Act - you might want to have a look through it just to cover your butt. The bottom line is the state wants more money (i.e. "licensing"). I moved from a state where this wasn't an issue, and used to very much enjoy locksport. I believe it's clear that lockpicks are far from necessary to B&E and would take much more time, energy, and talent than criminals care to apply; however, I'd rather not open my girlfriend's car with a sledgehammer the next time she locks her keys in it.
  16. GO TODD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LAY IT DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Off topic, but my brain is jelly from all this (_|_)-hattery (thanks previous poster)... One of the debates actually touched on a topic of interest to me...if anybody actually knows what the current law is on lockpicks in Tennessee, I've posted a question in General and I'd love your input, 'cause I sure can't figure it out. Thanks.
  18. Hey all - while waiting interminably for the override, I watched as the House debated a change to the Tennessee locksmith licensing act. My google-fu isn't the best, but the internet is fairly vague about what Tennessee law actually says. Almost every other state allows possession of lockpicks provided they aren't used or intended to be used in a burglary; according to Tennessee Code 39-14-701, doing so is a class A misdemeanor, but this thing http://www.state.tn.us/sos/acts/104/pub/pc0885.pdf which I can't seem to find in the Tennessee Code, seems to indicate that it's a felony, and also that emergency services are prohibited from ever opening anybody's vehicle. Based on some of the questions tonight, it would seem that that's not the case. SO... Anybody know what exactly the law is? If not, does anybody know who the fellow was that asked about whether the volunteer LEOs who help unlock people's cars could continue? He might be able to lend some clarity and/or fix the bill... Many thanks.
  19. Hi all - I'd like to clarify Sportsmans Grille's position. I was extremely surprised to hear the rumor that they were posting. I know a member of the owning family who is so pro-gun that he simply won't go where he cannot carry. Sportsmans' Grille is not posted. FYI. Carry in peace!
  20. Way to go, Colonel - great job preventing drunken shootouts over that last sorry, shriveled grilled chicken wing. So glad KFC is now safe for everyone!
  21. Hi all - I am looking at police-cruiser style long gun locks to securely mount an 870 under the rear seat of my '04 Silverado. I initially looked at a dedicated shotgun lock such as this. http://galls.com/style.html?assort=general_catalog&style=VP238&cat=2693 However, I soon discovered that a universal lock was available for $10 more than would give me the added flexibility of instead mounting an AR if I wished. Universal Gun Lock w/ Cuff Key Lock - VP009 : Galls I assume I'll need a butt plate to secure the butt of the gun, but I don't have any experience with this setup. What I'm looking for is firsthand input on how this kind of stuff works and what a good setup would look like. This will primarily be for the 870; I'm wondering if the universal lock might be jack of all trades but master of none. If it is just as good as the shotgun lock it might be a better option. Also, how do the electronic locks work? I imagine that it would be best to hide the release button somewhere where it's easily accessible but difficult for an unauthorized person to locate. I imagine LEOs would be the best candidates to comment on this but of course I welcome everbody's experience. Many thanks.
  22. But the MEDIA said that the POLICE said that the LAWMAKERS said that there is no Castle Doctrine!! It MUST be true!!
  23. Apparently, you can't shoot a home invader in your home unless you fear for your life. This just in from our beloved News Channel 5 at Best Options During Home Invasion Robberies - NewsChannel 5.com - Nashville, Tennessee - I must have missed this important legislative change...my question is WHY WOULDN'T YOU BE IN FEAR OF YOUR LIFE if some dirtbag has broken into your home and you are inside it...
  24. Sounds good - my question is, like the Montana law, what are the ramifications? Unfortunately the last stipulation did away with reasonably priced full autos - besides, I think the feds would take offense at the state deciding not to abide by federal law even if doing so is constitutional and correct... So basically, is this just taking a stand for states' rights to send a message and put framework in place, or is there any immediate benefit for we the people now?
