In that price range Dan Wesson hands down. My CCO that I got from Larry has to be one of the smoothest 1911s I've ever handled. I have a few that cost twice as much that I don't like as much as the CCO.

Yeah this one isn't going to wind up in a show case anywhere. Thanks for the insight fellas. I think I'll turn my shoulder a nice shade of blue this weekend

I picked up a Lefever Nitro Special from an in law this weekend for $150. I had never heard one before and when I was looking at it I didn't think it was worth over $50. The stock has some damage, little rust, pits, and a dent or two. But it was family so I picked it up. Thanks to google I figured out that these are pretty collectable. I'd like to clean this up a little bit. Nothing crazy, just scrub all the crud off with a toothbrush and run a bore snake through it. Could I damage it further by doing this?

Cant go wrong with either one. Buy whichever one and it gives you an excuse to get the other later on down the road.

Best out the front AUTO for the money ?
whiterx replied to chuck's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I've carried the same bm afo everyday since 2007. Its been with me across the pond a few times and has been exposed to some really demanding environments/situations between here and there. Its still going strong. The blade has lost a little pep when you open it but that's about it. Out of everything that has been issued to me, this is in my top 3. When the day comes and I either lose or break this I'll buy the same exact model again. -
Thanks. I really appreciate the help

I've been tasked with finding a going away gift for a senior NCO. Originally I was supposed to find a semi auto pistol but between the numerous legal issues and my piss poor budget that's just not going to happen. A black powder pistol solves all the issues but I just don't know a thing about them. I handled one once a few years back and that's about it. I haven't found a local gun shop around where I live that has any in stock so I can get a feel for one. I have around $250 to spend and I don't want to get junk. It will probably never be fired it just has to look pretty inside of a presentation case. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Are there certain brands that I need to stay away from? Thanks in advance.

The only issue I've had with mine is using el cheapo delux ammo. I want to say it was made by either Winchester or Remington and they had a flimsy tin rim. The extractor would shear through it leaving the shell lodged in the chamber. I discovered this back in 2012 and haven't had any other problem since.

The company that I bought my nickel boron bcg claims that you can run it without lubrication. I haven't ran it dry but nickel boron and chrome are a breeze to clean. You just wipe of the carbon. The only place I need to scrub is right below the gas rings on the bolt.

Not to detract from the topic but this has to be the most civilized 1911 vs plastic gun debate I've ever read.

Yup...add that to the fact that even a child can operate it

The paint job is surprisingly durable. Don't expect it to be pristine forever but it will hold up. When it gets beat up paint it again I painted my sons nerf gun as practice a few years ago and believe me that thing takes more abuse than a M4 in Afghanistan. Its still looks pretty good but it hasn't oiled or cleaned with solvents. Great job on the mosin!

I ran across this video on youtube and it blew my mind. Its almost like cheating. Theres another video where this 11 year old girl hits a target at 1000 yards using this system. These things START at 10k and you have to fill out an application to own one. So for the price of a used Honda you too can shoot like Carlos Hathcock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO1t1Q-U_os

Thanks fellas. I got the idea from a friend of mine. I like the look of it, kinda industrial and rustic. Yes I hit the pipe with a coat of rustoleum hammered paint. That little guy in the corner is a ak47 shaped bottle of vodka.

The wife and I finished a little project this weekend. Whatcha think?

The barrel is hex cut almost the whole length. Legion claims it somehow improves accuracy but I have my doubts. It does however shave 8oz off of the weight of the barrel and looks cool. If anyone is considering ordering something from them, give me a pm first and i'll explain my whole experience with this company. I might just post one up for the benefit of the group but I'll have to put the rifle through its paces first.

Just got this fella in today. Cant wait to shoot the hell out of it. Made by a small Texas company called Legion Firearms.
