  1. I hate how inconsistent the characters are on TWD. It's like they NEVER learn from their mistakes. You've lived in the zombie apoc for well over a year, yet you don't clear the house before you stop to reminisce over some photos? He even KNEW there was at least one live walker in the house but was willing to risk it and just casually stroll around the house. I mean, I realize it's television, but come on...   It's almost as if the writers think the viewers are stupid. I would have been happier with it if he'd fallen down some stairs and gotten skewered on a fire poker.
  2. Kudos to the guys in the video for doing something that's out of their element. Frankly I think they overly "winged it", but they were having fun.   Personally, after having watched them handle the firearms, I'm OK with them never owning one. :)
  3. If my wife did that, my first reaction would be "who are you ****ing?"
  4. 4 men, 4 deer and a mini cooper   http://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2015/01/30/dnt-fl-four-men-four-deer-one-mini-cooper.wkmg   TL;DW - 4 guys party hard and decide to go on an illegal deer hunt at 3am with shotguns and in a mini cooper. They managed to bag 3, fit them in the car and then RUN OVER a 4th, which stalled the car.
  5.   Lol, well they had Evil Dead, then Evil Dead 2 which was essentially a remake and then a remake not long ago. How many remakes do you need?!   Go watch Bubba Hotep or My Name is Bruce, you'll get your fix :)
  6.   Big thumbs up on this. I was one of the lucky ones who worked in a small shop so I was prompted from a helpdesk guy to an server admin role. That's very uncommon, especially if you work in a large business where they can afford to just hire a guy with the skillset they need. A lot of people in our field still have the mentality that tenure and institutional knowledge will help them climb the ladder. On some occasions that may be true.. but unless you're type of person who helps the business improve, simply doing your job won't be enough to get you a promotion.   Personally, I stick with a business until i'm vested. If you're not learning anything new, it's time to go somewhere you will. A stale tech is a worthless tech. It never fails that an IT department always has that guy who knows how to work on the old tech... and that's their job. There's nothing new for them, there's no promotions, no raises... their job is the same and has been the same for 20 years. Then later, that tech is phased out and so are they.
  7.   I've doubled my income in the last 3 years switching jobs. Yes, literally doubled.
  8.   If I were you, I would run some reports from your ticket system, figure out what those call drivers are and then propose ways to mitigate them. If you discover that 100 people call for password resets a month.. propose using a self service tool like Quest (Dell) Password manager, so the users can reset their own password securely. Of course, that all depends on your environment, your level of access, security, etc. but if you have the capacity to do stuff like that... I would.   You can't automate them all, but you can try :)
  9. He looks a touch goofy doing it, but you probably wouldn't laugh for long..... The combination of Robin Hood and shooting down the arrow reminded me of Robin Hood: Men in Tights
  10. I'm sorry, but this is all i can see
  11. IT is like that some places. Luckily, tech support/administration is everywhere. So if you aren't happy, just find another gig. Especially if you've been there a few years. You're likely on the yearly nickel and dime raise routine. You may interview and figure out you're worth 20% more than what they're paying you.   Oh, and NEVER accept a counter offer from your current gig for 2 reasons   1.) why did it take me walking out the door to get a raise? 2.) they're already looking for someone to replace you. You're 1 foot out the door, so you'll likely just spend your time documenting and then being phased out.

    scary gun

A long time ago a buddy of mine asked me to identify a gun he said his grandfather brought home from WWII. The first thing I noticed was the broken plastic grip... he either made up the story or was told a lie. It's one of those Rohm .22lr revolvers. Worth a whopping $75 if you could find someone to pay full price for it.   Years later, I call him every now and then to ask when he's going to get the thing.. he still hasn't done so. If I ever see a gun buyback, i'm going to trade it in. $25 at Kroger would be waaaay more useful.
  13. My wife isn't a gun gal. If we went shopping, this would literally be the one she would choose. Even if it was inoperable.
  14. Talk about handgun...    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CdVTCDdEwI
  15. I'd like a do-over on the "Alien" series with Sigourney Weaver... Getting it right this time. The first one was great, part 2 will always be a top pick.. 3 wasn't even bad. But man, from there....   The whole universe... games, books, movies was pooped on. Timelines out of sync, characters die in one and not the other only to be renamed in a vain attempt to keep things in order.   Let's rewind, spread the infestation, get more colonial marine action and scrap anything else!
  16.   I run adblock plus and disconnect.me   I also still like the MVPS host file http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
  17.   My personal favorites are the out of state check-ins. My wife still uses it and we see her friends posting that they are at the beach currently. I've been tempted to go to their house and take a mock picture of me with a crowbar at their back door, but it would be my luck some turd would break in and then I would get the blame.
  18. It's been discussed on the news a few times and countless places online, but I just got off the phone with another scammer, so I wanted to tell the non-technical folks here that:   MICROSOFT DOES NOT CALL TO LET YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE A VIRUS!!!!!   Twice this month I've had a scammer call me to say they work for "Windows" and that they have been informed that my computer has a virus. I'm an IT guy by trade. Yeah, not falling for it.. but we'll play the game to see what they want.   The scammer asks you to open the eventviewer, go to your system logs, filter it so that it only shows error messages and then proceeds to tell you that every error here indicates a virus. There will always be error messages here, that's normal, don't fall for it.    The scammer then requests you to go to a website, perhaps teamviewer, to have you establish a remote connection for them. If you follow these directions, you'll be handing your computer over to them. (Teamviewer is legit btw, just not in this instance).   The best thing you can do is simply hang up. They have your number, they know it works... don't give them a reason to continue to call it. You'll likely be unable to trace them back.
  19.   I'm a Trend fan as well. I've administrated Officescan servers for years. As long as you stay on top of keeping it current, it does the job. And, it's a lightweight client....
  20.   Norton advised a reset? As in a system restore or reformat? Odd either way.   Honestly, you're probably better off just factory restoring anyways. There's no telling what kind of breadcrumbs an infection can leave behind.   -PSA-   You see, the thing is, Antiviruses are a lot like doctors. Every time a new infection appears, people will catch it until they come up with a fix. It also doesn't help if the doctor is behind on his education (I.E. you're behind on updates). Granted that most of them have "patterns" they look for and most of them know how to look for suspicious behavior, but it's not foolproof. The idea is to blanket catch as MUCH as possible and patch in the rest over time.   Install any antivirus and you'll find they will ALL allow SOMETHING to get in. Oh, and don't think that means you need to install more than one.. that's a horrible idea :)   A common misconception is that you have to "download" an infection. Or "click" something. That's not the case at all. I often hear "I didn't download anything!". Yes you did! In fact, everything you view on the internet is downloaded to your computer! Did you know that even reputable websites can serve up an infection via advertising? I've seen MSN do it.    Quick scenario:  MSN (yes I know.. who goes there) has advertising. When you visit the site, the page is served up to you and they pull an advert from vendor X. Unbeknownst to MSN, vendor X has been compromised, so the add that MSN pulls serves you up a nice slice of malware pie. Suddenly you've got popups telling you that "Windows" has detected that you are infected and you need to download superspyblasterwebremover44pewpew! So it looks like MSN just gave you an infection. That's commonly referred to as a Drive By.   TL;DR - no antivirus is foolproof, but the idea is.... do you go into the storm wearing a raincoat and risk your shoes getting wet? Or do you just go without one and hope you don't get soaked.
  21. Yeah because that's what a high point needs.... more weight... ***edit*** On a side note.. i've always made jokes about using them as a hammer if the situation called for it. it would appear this owner realized this same potential :D
  22.   If they are anti-gun enough to post, which tells me they want to make a statement, they aren't likely to view it this way. They would likely just spin the story to say that had you never owned it in the first place, a criminal would have never gotten it.
  23. I'll miss the gaming social group. Though somewhat limited, it was active from time to time. However, if its departure makes way for additional forum improvements, all I can say is:
