  1. My dad served in Nam. Mechanized artillery. M107 I believe. I never got a single story from him. He didn't want to talk about it at all. I learned a few sparse facts from my mother. I think I learned enough when I bought him his first DVD player and put in my favorite movie at the time "We were soldiers". At one point he popped out of his chair and started yelling at the guys for running after a Vietcong. "Don't do it, don't do it!" After that, I got it. He didn't need to relive it with me.
  2. Pretty simple set of requirements for me. Is it sharp? Will it hold an edge? Can I poke or cut things. Obviously other folks will have a broader need. I landed on this model after going to Gatlinburg. I was at NOC and commented on a guys Emerson shirt. This dude proceeds to whip out 8 Emerson's to demo them for me. I started to question his EDC, but felt it best to just carry on like it was normal. Among those was a Sheepdog and I liked the fit and finish.
  3. Years ago I picked up a cheap Kershaw Emerson. Not the highest quality steel, so it needed regular sharpening, but what made it worthwhile was the "wave" opening. I'm so spoiled by it that I don't think I would ever want to go without one. Reach for the knife and presto, it's open and ready to roll. Plus, it's kinda fun seeing people's reaction at how fast it just appears when you need it. This year for Christmas, the wife wanted to get me something nice and so i sent her out for the upgrade and she picked up an actual Emerson. Decided to go with the Sheepdog Mini with a spearpoint. I'm very happy with the construction and smooth operation overall, though I haven't really put it through its paces yet. Just curious if anyone else is a fan? (there may be another thread somewhere in the pile. I won't lie, I didn't bother to look.
  4. Kids will never know who shot JR
  5. This won't be America's dad..... nor would we want to have them go back and watch it. What a shame...
  6. For the old school techies.
  7. ah the old iomega. Those were legit when they first hit the market.
  8. 5 days short of a full 7 year necro post! If I'm buying anything out of Argentina, it's gonna be a box of Havanna Alfajores. Man those things are delicious.
  9. While I can't profess to be a fan, I do recognize his talent and impact. RIP brother
  10. This is assuming businesses would hire "skilled US workers". Sadly, made in USA doesn't necessarily mean it's made by Bobby and Susie craftsman from our neighborhoods. It'll be the absolute cheapest labor they can get.
  11. Drums, guitars, singers, writing your own music. Not like all this current garbage that will be forgotten in a week. I watched about 10 minutes of the Grammy nominations last night because the wife had it on. ugh...
  12. Thanks @Dawg1998 FYI, I'm not sure you'll remember me, but I purchased a Noveske flaming pig off you several years ago. For everyone else, good guy, deal with confidence.
  13. I'm interested in seeing pics of the 700 SPS for sure.
  14. For those in my age group. Saturday morning cartoons!!!! The only day you could get cartoons! Assuming you didn't have chores first.
  15. meanwhile, the drawer in your desk:
  16. Finally got to do this today. Used the expanding foam to seal up the gaps instead which was a mistake. That stuff is messy. Regardless, I very much appreciate the advice. Same goes for everyone else in the thread who pitched in. I greatly appreciate it. Turns out it was a skunk. I guess it was so concentrated that i couldn't tell. caught his stinky a** on camera though. I noticed some scratch marks in the dirt at the front of the AC and a bunch of excess wire had been pulled out and chewed on. I think the A-hole bit that wire till it bit him back and he sprayed my unit. Then the house of cards pulled it inside for me to enjoy.
  17. I just got in my crawlspace today and did some work. Which reminds me, I should thank the TGO'ers who gave me some ideas on how to fix it... more in another thread
  18. More like early PowerPoint or cruel and usual punishment for family/friends
