  1.   At first I was thinking what in the world are yo talking about but then AH-HA! Using the graphite as a lube for the drum. That makes great sense since there are little grooves that are worn in the cones that would rub the "lead" off the pencils. Pretty slick! (no pun intended)   Thanks for all the other ideas too guys!
  2. Hey guys,    I've been using my Lee Anniversary kit for a while and for the amount I do, it has worked pretty good. The only thin thing that is getting on my nerves it the powder measure. I'm just using Accurate #5 and with the low end measure that comes with the kit, it gets a little irritating  If you loosen the tension screw too much. powder trickles out the side. Too much tension, it's too hard to turn. Powder also tends to get caught up in the cones and makes it gritty. I don't know if I can justify a competition priced measure but was wonder if anybody likes the measures in the $70-90 range.   Or should I just save my pennies until I can get a progressive press?
  3. I meant to ask if the markings were stamped or etched. If they were etched, they would be easier to blast off.
  4. Is it etched or stamped? You may have to do a little sanding first. Stainless is so tough, it resists blasting pretty well. I've don a ton (or two) of bike parts over the years and it's one of the more stubborn ones. But, it's also gorgeous when sanded to a fine level and then polished on the wheel.
  5. I betcha' never thought in a million years you'd be so excited to see 22 ammo.
  6. He'll probably chime in here but I would assume he would be there.   Is this in Nashville?
  7. I rented a Sig 1911 at the Guns and leather in Hendersonville about 2 months ago. They moved a lot of guns to the Greenbrier store when it opened back up. Check each. That may be an hour from Clarksville, but it's worth it to rent. That thing scared the crap out of me at first so I went with a 9mm. I just got a SR45 last week and I was much more prepared this time.
  8. Nothing like a little bang bang to take the edge of the week.
  9. I will always second the advice to try something at a range if he can. I wanted to go straight from a .22 for a .45. I rented a Sig 1911 at the range and it scared the crap out of me. I decided to go with a 9mm to start with. After using that for a while, I shot the 45 again, and it was much more tolerable this time. People say 40's have a sharp snap but I have never shot one myself.
  10. Yup, it's still cheaper if you can find the stinkin' primers. My most expensive FMJ's have been Sierra which were .20 each or so.
  11. My 17 has seen several hundred of my FMJ reloads with no problems at all. I will get an aftermarket barrel on of these days so I can start shooting lead though.
  12. Hey Guys, I've been hammering out some rounds in my Lee press and something has developed over the last 100 rounds or so. I got out about 300 with no problems and now I having trouble with the primer holder arm. I have the safety prime accessories too, but they work fine. When I lower the ram, the primer holder shifts off center ever so slightly so it's difficult to impossible to seat a primer. I've thought about the roll pin that holds the lever getting bent, but when the ram is at this level, it's completely free and floats in the ram. I haven't used to large primer holder yet, but I put it on there just for giggles and it does to the same thing. The shell holder is a Hornday and I was wondering if the through hole on a Lee shell holder is smaller to guide the holder. Here's a pic, It's hard to tell but the primer is leaning towards the holder slot and away from the number 8 stamped on it. Thanks!
  13. I absolutely concur. I ordered some from them last Friday and received them on Monday! They may have just had that size in stock, but the website says about a 14 day wait. I will definitely get my next batch from them too.
  14. Oh crap. I've made a few shop owners cringe over the years then.
  15. I would say now is a good time to be reading and getting an idea of what you want because right now it's getting very hard to find components. Presses and dies are pretty tough too. I started out with a Lee single stage and I've been very happy turning out rounds at a reasonable pace for me.
  16.   That doesn't sounds like a very nice response from someone who offered assistance.
  17. I've been keeping a close eye on the nickel cases. If they peel, I toss them. I don't have enough that it makes that big of a dent in my pile.
  18. I was just really upset with myself yesterday when I came in from shooting and saw that I blew through about $150 in 22lr.
  19. I've given up going to our Wal-Mart TDR. I've had a feeling something fishy may be going on there because other Wal-Marts actually have stuff on the shelf for a couple hours at least.
  20. Welcome also from Greenbrier. Are you in the sticks or city limits? I'm out in the woods.
  21. Well, in my quest for knowledge, I have a Chrony on the way and maybe I can see what happens. I going to load the same bullets, power and charge. I'll do about 20 with SPP and 20 with SRP and see what the velocity difference is. I'm very excited to see the results. But then again, if a particular gun can hit it hard enough it's a non-issue. I'll be using a Glock 17 with stock springs.
  22. I would have to wonder how well that would hold up to the cleaning chemicals we have to use.
  23. How often do you guys add the polish? Do you add a squirt in every tumble or just every so often? I used some Zephyr 15, but it was old and clumped up, but it still worked a little and added a great shine.
  24.   I did watch it with the lid off for a minute or two and the brass seem to sink to the bottom of the bowl immediately and never seems to roll around top. The media is churning very well though.
  25. I got one of the 5 pounders at Harbor Freight yesterday and have been trying it out with some Lizard Litter. I've seen lots of videos but there isn't a solid consensus of the run time and the number of cases per load. I put in a little under 3 pounds of litter and a pound or so of brass. I've run it about 6 hours and some of the cases are beautiful and some still (most of them actually) look pretty dirty on the inside still.   Is that too much media? and how many cases (9mm) can go at one time? Should I just leave for like 10-12 hours?   Thanks Guys
