  1. With this "I can, and will, regardless of whether I'm right or wrong; and it'll be your headache, not mine" attitude it's a wonder respect for law enforcement is down across the nation ...
  2. Speaking as an "insider" (I work for the VA) and friend to many Vets ... It seems the frustrating issue is gaining access to care, which has little to do with those of us on the medical staff, and more to do with whatever .gov bureaucrat (slowly) reviews service histories and assigns benefits. From what I hear, once people are in the system and seeing the docs, most patients are pleased with the care and assistance they receive.
  3. Thanks for the opinions guys. I'm not one to shy away from $100+ on a bourbon if it's a good one, so maybe next year I'll try it if offered at the store. Definitely not going to pay black market prices for it. Right now I'm really stuck on a Four Roses Single Barrel Store Select recipie OESO and some Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. I like this particular Four Roses so much I just bought a case of it. I don't know the best word to describe it. It's delicate, but packs a punch. To my amateur bourbon taste describing abilities I'd say the nose is really aromatic, at first sip it doesn't pack too much heat from alcohol and greets you with some definite vanilla, oak, and maybe cherry(?) flavors. Towards the end a bit of a rye like finish (I believe this is a 20% rye mashbill). There's a touch of burn at 110 proof but it's not in your face. Overall, well balanced flavors and not too much alcohol-forward. Take that for what it's worth from an amateur ... especially considering I'm on my second (and likely last) pour of the evening. Haha
  4. Is the pappy that good? I've never had any. Had a chance to buy some, but used my "regular customer" points to purchase two or three hard to find bottles instead of just one. Then I sat back with the whiskey guy and watched as the store manager told a bunch of hipster first time customers to f'off as they bombarded him with requests for the stuff. I know there's a lot of hype behind the stuff, just wondering if it's worth it. Me personally ... I prefer to put my money into delicious, findable whiskey/bourbon I can acquire with some regularity.
  5. Nice haul! Have you ever had the EH Taylor Rye? It's a good one. Also ... I blind tasted some Stagg Jr. a few weeks back. And over the holidays did a side by side with Jr. and Sr. That Jr. sure is one wild riding whiskey!
  6. Maybe "she" wasn't a dude last night ... but that Adam's apple suggests that "taco" used to be a "burrito" before the "surgery" ... ... haha
  7. What is this surely alien device that you speak of?
  8. this idea gets sweeter for me next year; starting some time next year HBO GO and Showtime Anytime are purportedly to be available without a cable/uverse/dish TV subscription.  It may or may not be limited in some ways compared to what you could get through a Comcast or U-Verse, but I don't think they've worked the kinx out all the way.   For me ... if I could get Netflix, Prime, HBO GO, & Showtime Anytime with an over-the-air HD antenna for locals, I'd be ok without TV.  Not sure about the wife though, but would certainly help the budget.
  9. Got mine today ... Kershaw Cryo folder knife. Thanks Secret Santa!! http://amzn.com/B0074FI28Q
  10. I too prefer a smooth rye. One of the smoothest I've had in awhile is this year's EH Taylor Straight Rye. Definitely some hints of sweetness with well balanced rye deliciousness. Especially compared to my bottle of Russel's Reserve Rye this one is much smoother. I'll be stashing it away in an effort to make it last longer. I also have a bottle of the Angel's Envy Rye I haven't tried yet, but am expecting it to be great from reviews by trusted friends.
  11. I assume since you had a beard and I've seen pictures of your in flannel that you were a hipster ... hahaha jk :)
  12. As far as what I carry it in ... right now just a paddle OWB ... but I'm hoping to see a CrossBreed OWB or IWB come for Christmas :)
  13. I started out with a G19 as my EDC gun ...then I bought a few more G19s ... Then I bought a Shield 9 ... now I own 2 and carry it more than the G19 I'm a big dude, so my frame doesn't have a problem with the G19, but the shield is so comfortable it's what I go with most of the time.    ... but I'll always be a Glock dude.
  14. package dropped at post office today. not going far, should be received in the next day or so.
  15. Me and a couple buddies hit up a barrel proof tasting the other night. Tried small amounts of each neat, then with some water. Blinded them to each other so we could be as objective as possible. George T Stagg - 128.2 Elijah Craig Barrel Proof - 134.8 ECBP - 132.4 GTS Jr. - 132.2 Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength - 110 E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof - 135.4 Our results (favorite to least favorite): GTS, FR1B, ECBP 134, EHTBP, ECBP 132, GTS Jr. Finished the evening off with small pours of EC23. Didn't include that in the samples above, but it would have placed 5th.
  16. Grocery store ... http://www.harristeeter.com/?redirect=no But that thing would be cool in a stage.
  17. I tend to agree re: the 3G ... but I'm cheap and do most of my library management at home, where there's WiFi.
  18. Have had one for several years. My favorite is the Gevalia signature blend (pictured below) for non-flavored coffee. My flavored go-to is Butter Toffee, not sure who makes it though. Around our house though, the standard K-cup is usually whatever CostCo has in bulk for cheap. The wife adds enough cream and Splenda that she's not drinking coffee anyway. I definitely recommend buying the cups when they're on sale, and joining the Keurig coffee club (for discounts/coupons). I also bought a 3rd party reusable mesh K-cup you can put your own grounds in for when I want a brew that doesn't come in K-cups.
  19. I hear many of these guys are pretty good with an axe ...
  20. Just loaded my app and checked. You can increase the size of the font on your device. You can do this on the app and on the Kindle. It gets bigger than this, but here's a pic of one of the bigger fonts on the phone.
  21. Nashville library system also uses Overdrive app for e-book checkout. It's all done from home. Amazon actually has good instructions on getting library books to and from the Kindle so that shouldn't be hard to use. If you're using a smartphone you could think about downloading the kindle app to that. You could at least try the Kindle service out before making the bigger purchase (app is free, download a free book to try, etc.). Also if you do buy a Kindle, you can still use the phone app to read from if you're ever without your Kindle. You can sync the libraries so they are the same, and it will keep up with your last read page. As far as where to buy from, I'd go wherever you find a good deal. I'm sure Amazon will have specials in the coming weeks. They also have certified refurbished ones you can look at also (from Amazon). I'd just keep an eye on several retailers and eBah and grab when I found the cheapest. No rush, especially if you think about giving the app a trial anyway.
  22. The cool thing is the way Amazon let's you manage your library.  Unless you're reading 1000 books at a time, you can keep most of your digital library in the Amazon cloud, and download the few you are reading to your device.  Finished with book? Move it to the cloud, replace with another, but in the cloud, its always available, and always yours.  Keeps clutter on your Kindle down.  I own a few 100 kindle books, but only keep 3-4 actually on the device at a time, knowing that I can always download in an instant should I so choose.
  23. I don't think you'll have the backlight issues on the paperwhite.  It definitely is an issue on my cheap basic model.    As far as the charger goes .. it comes with a cord you can connect to computer that will charge it.  If you have any of those Apple-branded brick things that come with iPhone/iPod/iPads or any device that plugs a USB cord into a wall outlet (can get this adapter at Wally world for like $10-$15), you can use that and the cord that comes with it as a charger.  Plug the cord into the adapter and boom!, charger made.    Also, lots of places will run specials on them throughout the holidays.  Amazon usually has a couple of days that its a good deal.  Best Buy the same, just keep your eye out for them.
