  1. I'm envious of that 33.  I have my pappy's old Winchester 67 that I'm trying to restore.  Love those old depression-era singles.
  2. Mine is fairly efficient until arctic weather shows up.  Secondary heat kicks on, and is a bit noisy and less efficient, but I'm happy with it overall.
  3. Welcome to TGO, Mike.  Glad to know there are some higher ed faculty members out there that are gun-friendly!
  4. I think this one is sticky-worthy.  I hope one of the administrators will sticky this one for a while to keep it on our radar.
  5. You're a lucky man to have gotten 'tapped' to pay it forward.  I'm gonna find someone to give to....I'd like to challenge us all to start a random pay it forward effort for no apparent reason to someone we encounter.  BE LIKE DAVE!   Edit:  By the way, the nice lady gave to you, you shared the info with a bunch of pretty decent folks.  Her giving, and your sharing, may have sparked something in a few of us that could actually make a difference in someone's life.  The 'mo' doesn't need to stop with Dave doing something cool with the idea when for the less than the cost of a pre-Newtown .22 brick we can all do some good.
  6. Faith in humanity partially restored.  Thanks for sharing that.
  7. I'll be lookin into the Hevi Shot DC.  Love Hevi for turkey.  I've got a couple cases of old, first issue steel BB and T 3" mag 12 ga from when I used to duck hunt years ago.  From the first year lead was illegal.  Wonder if that is of any use on 'yotes.  I know steel sucks, but it is just sittin around.
  8.   I hope you're dead wrong, too.....unfortunately I think you are dead right.  The New Deal, The Great Society, PPACA, etc. (I feel) were purely designed to incrementally bring us into the state in which we find ourselves now.  Society that is heavily concentrated in the cities are the most dependent on The Great Nanny, but that dependence has permeated even the most remote and traditionally self-sufficient locales to a large degree.  Also, consider the 'breeding incentives' given to the Great Dependents.  Conservative populations are falling off, while the Lib-minions still breed like rabbits.  Used to be that large families were needed to work the farm, or produce some sort of effort beneficial to society (when we used to actually make stuff).  Now that we're a 'service' society, the only tangible value realized from great numbers of offspring are larger welfare checks.  The productive population has shrunk, and the cockroaches have, well multiplied like cockroaches.  Sucks, but we're pretty much screwed.  Clowns to the left of us, jokers to the right.
  9. Pm inbound too
  10. Howdy Teecro!  Welcome to TGO.  Wilson County (Just east of Nashville/Davidson County) is nice.  Lebanon or Mt. Juliet areas.  You can access downtown pretty easily, or bypass it fairly easily and East TN is only a couple hours away.
  11. Other good options: parboil, then either beer-batter and deep fry or dredge in milk/egg and then Panko and deep fry.  Personally I like 'em parboiled, deboned, floured up and have chicken-fried squirrel on biscuits with gravy as above the best.
  12. Is the Big Bang posted? Wife thinking of going with a friend this weekend and wants to know. Hate for her to get to the door and have to walk away.
  13. Parboil them tree rats, then dredge in milk/egg then salt/pepper/flour (repeat) and then fry in cast iron skillet in bacon fat. Mix some leftover flour with drippings and whisk in some milk for gravy. Serve over hot bisquits.
  14. Has been skinny-dipping with Pelosi since June, so he doesn't mind the thread necromancy.
  15. My wife's family is rich with vets and we're very proud of them.  Her grandfather was a Ranger in WWII (Bronze Star-V, Purple Heart) who lost his leg in Italy.  Her dad and uncle were Viet Nam (dad Air Force, and uncle MACV SOG), her cousin just retired from the 3rd SF as a Team Daddy on a SFOD-A.  Most didn't/don't really want to talk details of their service, but surprisingly the uncle (Viet Vet) does.  He says that it helps him get over the horrors he witnessed.  Just need to make sure my daughter doesn't get any of the 'unfiltered' uncle time when we're around.  Content is not kid friendly for sure.  But really great to know that he can talk about the camaraderie he shared as well as the pain he experienced.
  16. So glad I moved back here from Connecticut.  Couldn't get outta there fast enough!
  17. Dude!  Just called 'em and they take phone orders!  Got me one mailed out!  $10 + $5.95 shipping!  They've got black, pink, and neon green short sleeves left.  Got me a black one!
  18. Holy Hell!  I want one of those shirts!  That is freaking AWESOME!
  19. Dangit!  Spots coulda had one too if he'd have upgraded from 2X McChokings.
  20.   Makes me wonder what his plan was, and if he was working alone or with someone else to follow/steal.
  21. Merry Christmas, Dave. Nice double!
  22. I'm working on a deal to trade a Winchester 1200 defender +$200 for a Nikon D3100 w 18-55 and 55-300 kit lenses.  Decent deal? <2000 pics taken.  I'm assuming this also means <2000 shutter clicks.
  23. If I were going to buy her a starter setup (gotta do it as economically as possible) what body/lens configuration would be something to start with.  Most big box bundles have something like a Nikon D3100 with 18-55mm and 55-300mm.  Granted, the glass isn't pro quality, but would this be a decent package to start with and see if she enjoys it enough to save her $$ up for good glass later?
  24. Wow.  Knew I could depend on y'all for some good advice.  Thanks much!  Gonna start digging around and see what I can find!

    DSLR's

I'm sure many of you are photographers, either professionally or as a hobby.  Me?  I know nothing about it.   Anywho, I'm trying to figure out getting a DSLR for my wife for Christmas.  Can anyone here recommend a place to shop for used (but in good shape) DSLR's and accessories?  Not wanting to go the pawnshop route, really.  I'm looking to even possibly go the trade/+cash route if I could find it, but that wouldn't likely occur unless I worked a deal with an individual somehow.  I even have a Roland electronic drum set I'd give up to make the deal happen, but again, probably not doable unless I go to a 'pawn shop' so that is likely out.   Any suggestions north of Nashville as to where to begin my quest?
