Shotgun is the best but recoil may be a problem for the wife. Nothing easier to use than a .38 revolver. That is what I have for my wife. Autos are problematic for people who aren't used to handguns. The ranges and instructors seem to push autos. I've seen them sell to women with arthritus who can't rack the slide or load the mags.

Dealers will also consider what they can get the gun for at cost when figuring a trade.

Mike at Thunder Mountain may have one.http://www.1911parts.com/

I appreciate the input. I will probably order the mtac. I like the idea of getting extra bodies if I want. Thanks

I have an M&P9 compact. I want to carry it IWB but so far I haven't found a comfortable holster. I tried a highnoon bare asset and a blade tec but both are too bulky and show a big bulge. I really don't want to waste any more money and the stores don't carry anything I can try out. I appreciate your input.

Thanks for the info. I've tried carrying IWB but found it very uncomfortable but I am not using MTAC. Looks like its worth a shot. Maybe it won't end up in the drawer with the rest of my great ideas:screwy: The reviews on the MTAC are very encouraging.

Have the gun belt. Looking for a good holster. Anyone using a cross breed or MTAC?

I was wondering if any of you carry the M&P9 Compact as a concealed carry? I am struggling with what to carry in an IWB holster. This gun seems a little thick and that has me concerned but I like the platform and the gun is very accurate. I just worry about printing. Any suggestions? I'm a pretty big guy 6'5 250 so I should be able to conceal a tank!

I use 1911 9MM to practice and for IDPA but you can't beat a commander size .45 for carry. Easy to conceal, light and packs a punch. I just added a Kimber Pro Carry for that purpose.

Just put an S&A magwell on my 1911. Basically not much difference in grip length but really nice for reloads.
-
IMO you can't beat a Springfield EMP. I sold mine much to my regret. If I had the money I would buy another without hesitation. It was a tack driver!

I believe it is more prudent to carry concealed. The main reason for me is to not give the anti-gunners any cause to create an issue. Many of them are looking for a reason find fault. What they don't know can't hurt us but if we start open carrying they will raise a rucus with polititians to get the law changed. Ket's face it, they are more vocal and have a liberal press to help them as needed. Just my opinion.

I just put a magwell on mine and it doesn't add much at all. The mag still comes out below the magwell. Not really that much difference. Get the one piece from S&A. Mine slid right in with no modifications on my STI Trojan. I had already purchased grips that were made for a magwell but you don't have to do this.

I like the Sig. Mine was extremely accurate and it is very reliable as well.

Extremely well said! I believe in the "don't ask don't tell" basis of carrying even in church.

The RAMI just didn't feel right to me. Had a CZ P01 that felt great. Was a great shooter and easy to carry concealed.

PM9 most of the time in my pocket or inside the waist holster. Will soon start with M&P 9 compact IWB. Sometimes pocket carry a 642CT

Do you carry with a round in the chamber?
rd97 replied to bubbiesdad's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
In am emergency situation there is too much stress to try and remember to rack the slide. The first round needs to be on its way ASAP or your dead meat. -
I don't think you overpaid.

It's working for me just fine. Just have to be careful to get the oil out befire shooting. I have a small bottle of alcohol for this purpose.

I have had three Kimbers. Two of them were jamomatics. I just found a Pro Carry Stainless that seems to work great. It is an older model and I have had no problems with it at all. I also had a Colt, S&W 1911, and a Taurus. All were better (IMHO) than my first two Kimbers. The S&W was the best of the bunch. All that said however, I will be keeping this Kimber for a while.

Solved my rust problem. I now clean with 409 cleaner, dry with a few patched, put a patch with WD40 through the barrel and run a patch with Remoil. I have had no more problems. I clean the oil out before shooting to prevent fouling.

I just picked up an M&P9 compact from Bud's for $439. I really like the M&P. For your consideration.

I have owned a Colt, EMP and STI in 9MM. The EMP was flawless but too small for IDPA. Most of my IDPA buddies shoot STI's and love them. My STI TRojan is new and has not had one failure out of the box in 200 rounds. I bought some metalform 10 round mags and they function very well also. I am extremly happy with the platform.
