"Have any of you been asked to conceal your weapon in businesses that are not posted?" No, but then again I think open carry creates many more problems than it's worth. Open carry makes some people uneasy which leads to complaints which leads to a gun busters sign. The last thing I want is extra attention or to become the first target in a surprise robbery.

They are doing it in Illinois, next the country
battleop replied to N2thebox's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
"It would get shot down in the Supreme Court, but by the time it gets there, all the guns would be destroyed, or the owners felons" Sounds like a business plan. Rent space in a high security facility in a neighboring fun friendly state where you can lease a gun safe to store your guns until the supreme court shoots this down. -

Permit holder looses gun in theatre. Found by children
battleop replied to c.a.willard's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I guess I must be paranoid or OCD or both. When I am public I must look like a 1st base coach because I keep checking for my phone, keys, wallet, and gun constantly... I bet the guy didn't have a holster and had it in his pocket and lost the gun at some time during the movie. -
"Doesn't sportsmans warehouse have a reloading class every once in a while?" Yea, I think it's once a month or maybe once every 6 weeks? They usually have a sign at the front with a schedule of their classes.

I think she is going to have a tougher time this time around and that's why the bill looks like it does now. She knows that they are going to have to make a bunch of concessions if have any hope in hell of getting this through so go for broke and then hope you get something close. I think in the end that IF anything happens it's going to be pretty close to the original AWB except there probably won't be a sunset. The thing that we have going for us is the internet and social media. Maybe I've looked in the wrong places but I don't see the support for the Anti-Gun side like I've seen the support for the Pro-Gun side online. Hopefully this is a good sign.

"So if a thief steals my gun and commits a crime you want to put me in jail?" - DaveTN In a nutshell, yes. Maybe you don't value your guns like I do but I try my best to keep them from being stolen. I know that my safe and other measures does not make them 100% theft proof but I do think I've done everything possible to prevent their theft. Following such a simple rule would have the mess we are in now.

Chicago's proof of the effectiveness of gun restrictions.
battleop replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Using Chicago as an example is a flawed example that gives the gun grabbers more talking points. Their argument is that these crimes happen because guns out side of the state are easy to obtain and bring back into the state. Therefore you should expand the coverage of their gun laws to the surrounding states so they have to go further to get guns. -
"Per Troy, Dicks was selling them undercost." - vontar They didn't say anything about selling under cost. They were selling the guns at a very log margin with plans on making that margin up by high volume sales. So they may only have to make $20 off each gun with Dicks where they would have to make $120 through other channels at lower volumes.

This whole thing should be a States Rights Issue and not a Federal Issue. Sorry to those living in the Communistic States like CA an NY but if these bans take place they should take place on a State by State basis and not at the Federal level. Living in Tennessee I feel that I really do not have a voice in this because there isn't much I can do to vote these Nazi's out of office.

The only thing I think should change is the enforcement of responsible gun ownership. If you are a dumb ass and you leave a loaded Glock in the night stand and a kid gets a hold of it and an "accident" happens the person responsible for that gun should be punished heavily. If you leave your guns laying around and you don't make a reasonable effort to prevent their theft then you should have some responsibility to the crime committed with that gun. If you sell a gun to a bad guy then you should be part of the crime. There needs a way for you to cheaply ($5-10) make sure the guy you are selling that gun to is legit. This would clear the seller from any responsibility but make it optional. That way if you buy/sell/trade with people you know you don't have to fool with it. Restricting gun ownership, magazine ownership, or ammo won't fix anything. The only thing that can fix this is responsibility.

Fear of being committed; and we must pay...
battleop replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have a relative that went through some bad times (very deep depression) after the loss of a spouse. After some work we were able to get some help with a local mental health facility. Before taking her back home there were several things we were told to do. One of the things we were told was to remove all firearms form the home. At the time we were told this we had all ready done this because I was concerned that something would happen that would lead to confiscation. -
Are reloading supplies getting scarce like ammo?
battleop replied to gregintenn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I was there Friday they had at least 2 - 3 cans of just about everything they stock as well as a few boxes of various primers. When I went by Saturday it looked like they had half as much powder and no primers except for a couple of shot shell trays. I guess everyone who gets paid on Friday went there Friday evening and wiped them out. -
Three Reasons Gun Control Isn't Going to Happen
battleop replied to R_Bert's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
"I see the gunshow loophole going away" This one does not upset me personally because I don't buy and sell guns to and from strangers. I don't want the heat from the BATFE because I bought a stolen gun or sold one to someone who shouldn't have it. When they talk about the loop hole are they talking about one guy passes another guy and they buy/trade guns or are they talking about the guy who sets up a table with 20 guns on it and they treat it like a private party sale? -
Jumping Through Hoops in Tenneessee. This has to change
battleop replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
CYA as in the state covering their asses. If some moron shoots their foot while trying to pull their gun out they can at least say "Well we tried to teach you a little bit about gun safety, moron." Plus it makes it harder for the permit holder to claim that they were not aware of the carry laws. -
The President can't enact a a complete ban on guns by signing any treaties. The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the Constitution and the 1957 case, Reid v. Covert, the Supreme Court established that the Constitution supersedes international treaties. The treaty is supposed to clamp down on International trade of arms.

Jumping Through Hoops in Tenneessee. This has to change

I took my class last spring in a class of 10-12 people. Out of the 10-12 people in my class 5 had to rent a gun because they did not own one. Of the 5 that did not own a gun 2 had shot less than 100 rounds in their life time and 1 had NEVER shot a gun before in their life. The class seems to be a CYA to cover those people who really do not have any business carrying a firearm from a safety stand point.
