EAST Tenn. TGO members interested in a ______ get together?
SkWaShDeM replied to a topic in Events and Gatherings
14 April would probably be the soonest Saturday that something like that could be done. Maybe meet up somewhere for lunch and then head to a range where everyone can enjoy making things go bang and drool over someone else's guns. (= -
The closest place that charges by-the-hour for shooting is in Sevierville as far as I know. And that range is quite nice.

These are all in or near Greeneville. TAC2: Take I-81 to Exit 36 (Highway 172) toward Greeneville. Head in to town, 9.6 miles, turn right on Robert Harmon Rd, go 1.6 miles, turn right at TAC2 sign. TAC2 is a private club/training school for firearms. It's run by a chiropractor named Bryant who has a list of certifications a couple pages long viewable on their website. Membership is $25 application fee, plus $100 per year for a family membership that includes children living at home under 21. http://www.tac2.net White Sands: I wouldn't dream of trying to give directions to White Sands... mostly because I have trouble finding it and I grew up on that side of town. 1280 Piney Grove Rd if you want to Google some directions. White Sands is out in the middle of nowhere, and is basically set up in a guy's back yard. He has a barn style building set up as a gun store with a small selection of weapons, and a bunch of ammo. The valley behind it is the range. You can shoot anything you want, sunrise to sunset, except on Sundays, when it's open 1pm-5pm. He has a few metal targets set up out there for IDPA style matches if you're interested in shooting something besides paper. Family membership is about $75 or $100 per year. Greene County Fishing & Hunting Club: This is a private range that I don't have a whole lot of information on. I've honestly never met anyone who belongs to it. It's listed on a few websites online, but only with a PO Box address and a phone number. It says it offers outdoor rifle, muzzleloader, skeet, and airgun facilities.

Well, my dad has his HCP and does not carry because he's concerned about the civil and criminal liabilities involved. He got his so he could easily transport his gun to and from the range without having to worry about separating ammo and weapon in the vehicle.

Unaka, at least from what I've been told, has very restricted hours due to complaints from neighbors. I don't have much information on Kettlefoot beyond that it's near Bristol. I'm usually free all day on Saturday, so any weekend is good unless my mother is demanding my presence at her house for dinner.

I don't go to Scioto very frequently. I go maybe once a month just to get some trigger time. At some point, I'll probably cave and apply for a membership at Cherokee just to have a place to shoot where I'm not going to get dirty looks for bringing a 9mm and wanting to shoot at something closer than 25 yards away. If you want to arrange to meet up at Scioto or carpool out to it, I'm game. We can probably convince salb to join us with his AK-47 to ventilate milk jugs. Jacob's Creek is way out in the middle of nowhere from what I'm told, and muddy 75% of the time.
-
I shot one. I liked it. Mostly because it wasn't my money I heard flushing away when I pulled the trigger. $0.50 per round adds up in a hurry when you're shooting something that recoils about like a .22LR and costs $24.95 for 50 rounds of range ammo. To me, the 5.7 is a .22LR on steroids, crack, and speed, with a better bullet up front for what it's designed to do. I wouldn't carry one for defense, but I probably will get one eventually just to have one before the anti-gun crowd comes up with some more creative chicken**** that will let them ban it.

Jacob's Creek is a TWRA range. They're all a little sketchy. I don't like Scioto as much as I once did, mostly because of some of the good ol' boys there who don't like new guys coming in and actually having the audacity to shoot on the 25 yard line that they pretty much monopolize with their .22LR's. A list of all TWRA run ranges: http://www.state.tn.us/twra/firrange.html $2 per day, per vehicle. There's a sign that advertises a $30 annual pass as an alternative apparently. You get an envelope out of a self pay station that you tear off a car tag from that's good for the day... A lot of people just use the ranges and don't pay though. North Cherokee WMA - Fee required, daylight hours only. Jacobs Creek - Denton Valley Road, Sullivan Co. (423) 735-1500 Pond Mountain - Hwy. 321, Carter Co. (423) 735-1500 Scioto - Scioto Road, Unicoi Co. (423) 735-1500 Bubbling Springs - Hwy. 107, Cocke Co. (423) 638-4109

All of the above. My mother having to attend my memorial service isn't an idea I like to dwell on.

And write/email/telephone to all TN congresspersons so that they know their constituents want them to oppose HR1022 vigorously. I already have, but I'll probably write again for emphasis.
-
Works for me. Just send me a PM when you have the time.
-
Sure, just let me know. I've always wanted to learn how just for the sake of knowledge.
-
Tower, I honestly can say that I don't know the first thing about how to go about doing what you suggested. I just don't have any knowledge about how to reload my own ammo. I've flipped through the one book I found in the store about it once and came to the conclusion that it was a subject that I couldn't learn from a book and would have to learn from someone who could show me how to do it hands on.

Something interesting, a woman my father works with from Florida has her FL CCW, and she told us that part of their practical exam involved the range officer running the target towards you from 7 yards to see how well you hit a target coming straight at you.
-
Better yet, put a full shooting facility in it's place. Skeet, trap, long and short range rifle, indoor pistol... Think about it. (=
-
If possible, I'd want 9mm and .38 Special. I really only need 20 at the most in 9mm since it's just for dry fire practice. 7 or 8 in .38 Special.

$2 Billion into the local economy every year is why I want them to keep the racing alive in Bristol. (= Otherwise, I wouldn't cry if BMS was closed.
-
I'd never thought of this, but when Phantom posted it in another thread, it got me thinking. So, anyone near Johnson City reload? I'd like to do this with several of my weapons, but I don't reload, and don't actually know anyone who does nearby. I'm not sure what this would cost in materials and time, but I'd be happy to reimburse someone if they were willing and able to make me some.

I live close to the track, but I don't really like NASCAR, or the horde of fans that have come into town. For five years I've had the policy that I only leave my apartment during race weekends if absolutely necessary. Where I'm at, the traffic is worse than usual, but not bad. In downtown Johnson City, it's getting bad. Right now is probably insane. Going to see my girl in Bristol where she works at the Blue Circle on Thursday drove me insane due to all the campers trying to turn and slowing down traffic on the Parkway past BMS.

I have. Big guy from up in the mountains. He was also the drunkest person I've ever seen then or since. Ah... memories from my time working the ER.
-
It look so shiny...

I've always heard that 12" of penetration in ballistic gelatin is what you want to get. I've never been very certain of the way to convert gelatin performance to real world performance in human tissue, but that's apparently the penetration level that people find to be desirable.

Oh yum, the Knob Creek shoot. If I had the time and the money I would go twice a year. And if the Mrs. would only come around to the idea that full auto -is- that much fun, even if it's not very practical.

This is where we fight? Confiscation topic.

After 5 years of college, I only wish I could've followed my own advice when I started. (= -

Marswolf, it may have been true then that high school GPA had more to do with college success than anything else, but not anymore, at least not for most of the people I've come in contact with in college. I had a 3.5 GPA in high school and was ranked 33rd in my class of 151 people. 13 people had 4.0 GPAs and were named valedictorian, 7 of those failed out of college by our sophomore year. 6 of those 7 were football and basketball players from both locker rooms. They were babied through high school so their athletic eligibility wouldn't be taken away. The lotto scholarship increased the babying of high school students to include more of the student body is all. Look at the statistics for how many kids lose their lotto scholarship after the first year. If anyone's got a kid considering ETSU, feel free to pass this on, but this is what I tell any freshman I meet, or any high school senior on a tour who stops me to ask what I think of ETSU. 1) Your adviser won't help you at all, ignore him after he gives you the handy little check sheet that tells you every class you have to have to graduate. 2) Make friends with a senior and get them to teach you how to schedule your classes properly. 3.) Don't take more than 15 hours per semester, period, Only take 12 or 13 if your wallet can deal with you being a fifth year senior. 4.) Don't take Prob & Stats if your major doesn't require it, take Analytic Geometry instead. 50% of any given section will fail Prob & Stats regardless of how hard they try. 5.) Just because you're in a BS program, doesn't mean you have to get your Gen Ed science classes from the "For Majors" side, you can take from the "Non-Science Majors Only" ones. They're easier. Much easier. 6.) For your first two semesters, take Basic Military PT from the ROTC guys and don't skip class. You'll thank me when you're a sophomore.
