  1. Most of the cops I know make the excuse that they don't have enough time to go to the range to practice, or enough spare cash to buy practice ammo. In my first apartment, the guy next door was a cop, and he thought I was absolutely insane for going to the range every week to shoot 100 rounds through my 9mm.
  2. Half of ETSU's buildings are haunted. What's one more ghost? But since the April shoot is in Oak Ridge, I'll have to pass. I can't make it out that day, I'm going to go see about bidding on a shotgun in one of the TWRA auctions that day. Too good of an chance to save a good bit of money on one to pass up.
  3. You have more restraint than I do. I'd have shot them. I've actually shot a dog in a similar situation before. The animal control officer was more annoyed that he wouldn't get to shoot something that day than with the fact that I'd shot a dog 10 feet inside my parent's property line from the road with a .357.
  4. A single rotating banner ad up at the top is not an issue. Two banners is alright I guess, but anything beyond two starts to get annoying. surplusrifle.com has always done the banner ads fairly sedately, and they were always pretty relevant to the subject matter at hand.

It's all personal preference for me on full slide 22's. That, and I have yet to try a .22LR pistol of any kind that wouldn't cycle CCI Stingers and Mini-Mag HP's for me reliably. (=
  6. It's made in Piney Flats, just up the road from me. I wonder if you can stop by the factory and get a demonstration... That'd be fun.

The Ruger Mk2/3 pistols are nice, so is the Browning Buckmark, but my biggest gripe with all three is that they're so difficult to take down for cleaning. I also don't like how the slide doesn't move on them, but that's a personal preference on my part. The Mosquito is a .22LR chambered 90% size version of the P226 in 9mm. The other nice thing about the Mosquito is it comes with multiple front sight blades so you can play around with them to find the best sight picture with the stock sights. It also comes with two recoil springs. One for standard ammo, another for ultra high velocity ammo. It also has a standard rail on it if you feel the urge to put a laser sight or weapon light on it.

Nothing wrong with the AA conversion kits. When the XD kit comes out, I'm buying one. But since he wants a new gun, not a conversion kit, nothing much that can be done to get a Glock in .22LR unless he wants to buy the kit, and an extra Glock to leave the AA upper installed on permanently. Which isn't a bad idea IMO. For a semi-auto, the 22's I see the most are Walther P22's or Sig Mosquitos these days. I like the Sig a little better because it's bigger, and fits my hand. They've also got a threaded barrel version now if you ever feel compelled to sign over your first born to the BATFE for the privilege of Class III ownership.

My dad tried the Walther P22 out and didn't like how it fit his hand, he ended up with a Sig Mosquito after holding every .22 pistol in the store. It's a 90% version of a Sig 229 pretty much.
  10. Worst states/jurisdictions: New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, New York, California, and Wisconsin. Washington D.C. as well, even though it is not a state. Best states: Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Ohio, Indiana, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, and Vermont. The DC Gun ban coming down is good, but they did appeal the decision, so hopefully either SCOTUS will decline to hear the case, which will make the decision stand as a precedent, which would be fine. Or SCOTUS will hear it and uphold the decision of DC Circuit, which would be even better.
  11. Hmmf, UT's paper actually published something that's remotely conservative. If only ETSU's East Tennessean could do the same. They recently published an article advocating the revocation of the second amendment. I'm envious. The ET has been a liberal snotrag for as long as I can remember. I don't read it anymore unless someone points out something like the Anti-Gun article that I might actually want to read to see how stupid the writers have become.
  12. The Dirty P finally got shut down due to underage consumption violations. Apparently, it'll be opening again under new ownership and a new name... But it was shut down last Fall.
  13. Mmm... Bucks... Greasy pizza, good wings, and cheap beer, all within stumbling distance of all of campus FTW!
  14. I think that the faculty members who can successfully complete an appropriate training course should be armed in the schools. I also think they should have an in-service multiple times a year that provides some refresher training on the subject. I remember hearing a story about a school shooting in Mississippi that was stopped by the principal who parked a quarter of a mile away from the school so he could keep his gun close by after the law was made that required him to keep his gun at least 1000 feet away from the school. He ran to his car when the shooting started, and ran back to confront the gunman. I can't for the life of me remember the specific details, but it was interesting to me that he was able to run that far. Most of the principals I've had over the years couldn't run half a mile if their life depended on it, let alone the life of a student.
  15. Three hours is barely getting warmed up I tell you... And if a pizza is worth three hours of driving on construction central I-40... that might be worth looking into.
  16. It could be done I suppose... I've gone further to shoot before. A cousin broke his arm one time and convinced me to come fill in for him once at a high-power competition in Texas that required flying with a firearm three months after 9/11... that's was fun too. So was lugging an 11.5 pound customized .308 around the desert in January...
  17. Oak Ridge is a two hour drive for those of us in Tri-Cities, even the way I drive and with my unfortunate knowledge of where the cops like to run radar between here and there... Ah the joys of road trips your first year of college to Knoxville and Chattanooga because you didn't want to drink at home... Memories... Oh fun.
  18. Oh the painful memories of an AOW 12 gauge Super Shorty... Oh the pain. My wrist hurts just thinking about that one afternoon I got to try one out. Never again. Nothing less than a short pull shoulder stock and a 14" barrel for me.
  19. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. I rarely turn down a chance to go shoot.

    Gun help!

Or at least some KY Warming Lube to ease the pain?
  21. As far as another female being there, my fiance will come if her schedule permits. She loves to shoot. And she'd enjoy it even more if someone has a Glock 19 to bring that she could shoot some. She loves Glock 19's, but I don't have the spare cash to buy her one of her own just yet. How about we go with Marswolf's idea and set the date as the third Saturday in April. (21 April 2007). With a date set, we can figure out what range and what restaurant to go to.

    XD help

The Sevierville Indoor range has an XD-9 Service for rent, not sure if that's near you, but I do know they have one. If the XD trigger feels funny, it's probably because it's brand new and hasn't been broken in yet. 100 rounds or so later it will feel noticeably different. My XD's trigger was stiff and heavy for an XD when I bought it. Now, about 3500 rounds later, it's not quite so heavy, and the pull is very crisp IMO. My take on the XD is that it's a gun that rewards you for shooting it more. The trigger just gets better as you go. One more incentive to shoot it more often.
  23. Hmm, lots of people saying that date doesn't work, anyone able to suggest an alternate date?
  24. The only use a taxpayer will ever get out of the place is if they take their carry class there. Unfortunate, but true. Same for the LE ranges. There's also a range at Gray Kennels and Security, but I don't think it's open to the public.
  25. ETSU Rifle Range: This option isn't exactly available to everyone, but ETSU students and faculty can join the school marksmanship club and use the range in the basement of the Memorial Center (Mini-Dome). It's mostly .22LR only, using the school's handguns and rifles, but it's indoor, and cheap, which goes well with being a poor college student. I have been told you can shoot up to .45ACP on the range, but getting the weapon and ammo to the range is somewhat difficult. Might look into that though.
