  1. Tell him congratulations on a nice buck!
  2. Thanks KahrMan, good luck to you this evening. I've been outta the stand since around 11. Going to watch my daughters archery competition. Have a good hunt!
  3. Well, I about went into cardiac arrest this morning! Sitting in the stand since 5am and haven't seen anything! Getting about that point where your mind starts saying "well it's a beautiful day but probably won't see anything if it's been this dead". 9:26 am I look up to my left and coming down the ridge is a buck! I'm like hell yeah! Ease up and glance through branches and only see the tops and think that it's the 8 pointer 2 1/2 year old that's not much bigger than the six I just killed Tuesday. My buddy hasn't got a deer at all yet so was planning on watching him pass and hope my buddy could get him later. BAM! Out he steps where I can see the rest of his head and I see the 3 kickers and off the back side of his left G2. Yep, that's when it hit me! I haven't seen this deer on camera since August and zero daytime photos. I have my rifle up but watching for him outside the scope because it's so thick back there where he's walking and didn't want to lose him. He stops at about 50 yards from me behind trees and I think uh oh. Then he turns around and stops, as I realize the wind that's been hitting me straight in the face ALL morning was blowing right towards him. My heart was going crazy as I'm thinking he's leaving. But it wasn't just a thought, he started walking back out. I grunted, he stopped and walked. I grunted again, he stopped and then walked. I watched his silhouette walk right back out the same way he came in and I was shaking like a leaf! He's at least 12 points. Afterthoughts: Should I have grunted? I'm worried now that I shouldn't have since he didn't like something. Even if he didn't wind me, he could have not liked the Doe in Estrus smell that I'd put out? I'd think he'd have ran if he knew I was there right? Anyway, I waited an hour and moved my stand back away from that side of the hill where the wind swirls. I have mock scrapes over there and that's where I had him on camera. that's where I think he was heading so I put my climber about 50 yards across from that spot with several shooting lanes if he comes back tomorrow. God I hope he does, he's a magnificent buck!
  4. Man that is a rough morning! I hope you get to make up for it this afternoon! I just got in my stand 30 minutes ago. I had family duties that came first this morning. Beautiful day out here!
  5. Thank you!! No more bucks unless he's a biggin now! I had a couple button bucks come through today and one doe. The doe was good size but never got out of the brush or areas with branches hindering my shot. Man I love deer season! Even when I don't bring something home!
  6. Finally got on my laptop and was able to get the pictures uploaded. Also, pulled my card today and had several videos of this deer this week and hadn't seen him before. Pretty cool to see him. The first video I watched is in the morning while I'm in the stand and never knew he was around. The second video at 426pm is when he was coming toward my stand. So thankful for this harvest, he was a good lookin 2 1/2 year old. Nevermind, videos are too big. Maybe I'll upload them to my YouTube and post them later.
  7. Yeah that thing is ridiculous!
  8. Thank the good Lord above, I finally had something that wasn't a yearling or doe with fawns in tow! I've hunted every weekend sun up to sun down during bow, never drew it back. Saturday was in the blind for 11 hours, Sunday for 12. My neck and back were killing me. Had a spike walking 20 yards along side of me on the way in the woods Monday and he crossed my path right in front of me. I thought man if you only knew I haven't harvested a deer this year lol. But I let him walk. An hour later he came right by me again, I whispered to myself "Lil feller 3rd time your gonna be on a biscuit!" No third time happened so he must have heard me. This morning I jumped a deer on the way in, then had a small yearling come by at about 7am. Didn't see a thing the rest of the day until I bleated this one in. I had a decoy out and he came right towards it, stopping, stomping slightly, and then easing towards it again. I thought "How cool is this!?" Never used a decoy before. I shot him with my brand new CVA Optima V2. Using Hornady XTP and he didn't go 20 yards. I'm so happy to have my first deer for the season and my wife is even happier. She and my daughter have been wearing me out about being out of deer meat! Ill have to post a picture later, says file is too large Anyway it's a six pointer, young deer with goofy character in his racks but good size body and so blessed to have harvested him today! Going back in the morning to bust some coyotes hopefully, they've been running deer the past couple weeks.

  11. Congratulations! Ive been out since 5am. Haven't seen even a doe. Have had five or six videos and pictures of coyotes and buddy who hunts this small place with me has had coyotes come in on him both of his last trips out. No shot I guess. I'm beginning to think the coyotes have changed the deer pattern since they're in here so much. I even had a video of one rolling around in a mock scrape. I really hope I see that one! I guess I'll try the other place I'm allowed to hunt tomorrow and see what happens
  12. Thanks for the feedback. I really like the looks and function of the Magpul. It'll be a while before I can get one. Mom surprised about your experience with Vortex for sure. You may be right, maybe send in again? I'm sighting it in Sunday and can't wait!
  13. That is very nice! I wish you the best of luck this year!
  14. Guys I think you'll enjoy this. I know I'm still fired up about it and it happened Sunday before last. I was sitting in my Viper about 20 feet up in a tree just enjoying watching the woods for any sign of deer. I happened to scan to my right and about 30 yards out I see something moving. I twist my head farther and my mouth dropped as I watched a bobcat stepping one step at a time, freezing as each step forward touched his paw to the ground. I watched him for about 10 yards doing the same thing, step, freeze, and repeat. He disappeared into some thicket and I waited to hear something squall as he ripped into it. I never heard anything so I sat there just replaying everything I saw since it was my first time seeing one in the woods. A few minutes went by, maybe 3 maybe 10, and I glanced back over to see him casually strolling back out the way he'd came in. No food in his mouth and not in a hurry by any means, just cool-catting along the 4 wheeler trail. I thought "HOLY CRAP I need to snap a picture of him before he's gone!". I grabbed my phone and as I started to raise it I changed my mind and decided to video just in case I scared him and could at least see him jump in the video. I'd planned to do a mouth call that I practice all the time just for that off chance that I may even need to use it. Thank God I'd done this for the 1 in a million chance haha. Just a little description of a few things to notice in the video. Watch the top of the screen when I zoom in, he's moving from left to right of the screen. I start with a high pitch and he didn't hear it or like it. I think he just didn't notice it right off. But when I changed the pitch to a deeper squall he immediately stopped and turned directly towards me. I literally could not believe it! Next, when he gets behind a green section of leaves and you can barely see him, he was less than 7 yards. I decided then that I wasn't sure what he'd do if I let him keep coming and I didn't want to have to decide as he climbed up the tree! My scent control must have been good and my face camo apparently sealed the deal. All that to say, I made the decision when he stopped there to move my body so he'd see me if he kept moving forward and it worked. Was that the smartest thing to do? Did I miss out on more awesome footage? Who knows but I honestly am more excited with this footage than if it'd been November 18th and I was able to harvest him. Although, what a hind story it would have to go with the mount! It was a beautiful cat and I'm glad to be able to share the footage with y'all. This was taken with an iPhone 6s Plus so it could have been a lot better video if I'd had an expensive camera but it turned out pretty good for a phone video. Enjoy!
  15. Well Friday I was in my stand at 5am and stayed till about 11:00 before coming down so I could take Roman (my pit) to the vet for his annual checkup and shots. The wind was blowing like crazy where I was at. I actually debated going back because it was so strong but I'd taken a vacation day just to hunt and said screw it, I'm going. I got out there at 1:45pm The wind didn't change and I didn't see a thing all day. Yesterday I had our annual hayride/bonfire with the family so I didn't hunt at all. But it's 40 degrees outside now and the wind has died down quite a bit and getting ready to go out and stay all day if I have to. Good luck to anyone going out today, it's gonna be a beautiful day in the woods!!
  16. I need to buy a Fat Wrench BAD! My friend has one and I'm going to finish everything up at his house with a level and his wrench so I don't have to worry.
  17. No sir but I have some low rings coming in next week. I want to see which ones fit better. I imagine the low ones will, but want to make sure I have room for flip up caps. But then I definitely will loctite them. I learned that lesson a long time ago! But thanks for mentioning it just in case I didn't know
  18. I happened upon a set of 30mm Redfield rings at Academy this morning. It was the only ones they had and were medium. The price was $17.99 or something like that but rang up as clearance price $5.88! I'm sure they'll hold me over fine until I get new ones. They are much lower than the ARMS but still higher than they should be. But at least I can shoot it for now.
  19. I think Saturday will be better (colder) but I'm hunting that morning too. Hopefully I get to post up my first deer tomorrow. Been a slow season for me so far even though I've hunted every day I had available. But every minute was enjoyed to the fullest!
  20. Anyone hunting tomorrow? I took a vacation day because of this front coming through today. I'm hoping they are moving big time in the morning!
