2014 Off Season Support Group Deer Season Thread

Totally understand that! -
Something I noticed during the break in procedure was that sometimes when feeding from the magazine the bolt was really stiff to move forward. Obviously when dropping a round into the open action, it was smooth as butter. I did some research yesterday and found that others had the same issue, and most worked out with use. I read on one forum that the soft point ammo was grabbing but fmj's did not. So I tried running some of them through last night and it seemed to load them fine. I'm going to use both this weekend and see if it gets smoother with the soft points. I will be shooting this thing a lot so hopefully it will be broke in within a couple weeks. I love the way it shoots though. Was just curious if any of you with SPS Tactical's ran into the same thing.

LMAO I was thinking "This video isn't very long, when are they going to show what he is doing with it?" HA HA Didn't take long to figure that out!!! Great video

I've had so much going on, I haven't even had a chance to mess with mine yet. I'm glad yours seems to be good to go. Hopefully your next range report will be an A+!! -

Hard to beat this crew ain't it Slappy! I really look forward to hearing from everyone on here daily, even if it doesn't pertain to me. Everyone is always looking out for each other. Love this place! -
Well a good friend of mine went with me to On Target Saturday morning to help me with my barrel break in. It was really fun. Obviously during the break in we weren't really trying to get the tightest groups we can, that will be after the barrel is broke in. But I am pretty happy with the results. The farthest we could shoot was 25 yards. I was also shooting standing/stooped over just a little bit. I was using the bipod for support on the front of the rifle and my shoulder for support on the back since the the shelf you shoot off isn't long enough for the whole rifle to sit on. Kind of an awkward position, which is why I'm happy so far. I have a couple more rounds of break in I want to finish this weekend and then dial it in as tight as I can get it with the Hogue stock. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the HS Precision Police stock. But until then, I'm going to continue shooting it like there's no tomorrow. Here's a few pictures of the targets. What a blast we had and I learned some things from him as well. There are a few flyers which I will take the blame for even if it is due to the barrel being new. A couple, I felt myself move and knew they weren't good. Other than that, I had some really good groups in my opinion. I'm going to really practice on my breathing and my cheek position. I'm no marksman, but I intend to put in the time to become one.

Good one!!!

And this comeback would be talked about for a LONG time if they won!

I wanted to go back this morning but its been pouring and didn't know if I'd be able to see him. Yesterday I wanted to walk towards him just to make sure he could move. But I was afraid he would run up the hill into traffic and possible get hit again. Fingera crossed for a fast recovery. I feel better that I didn't find him laying there dead today.
-
Well guys, we can hold out hope. I'm here now and he is nowhere to be seen. Hopefully he is bedded down somewhere letting himself get better!
-
That was my initial thought after he didn't move for several minutes. But he didn't try to turn or anything. I was imagining if it was caught in something, he'd be trying to pull on it? That's when I started thinking maybe he was just resting since I never tried to close in on him. I may go back down there and see if he's still there and call TWRA back if he is.

That's what I'm hoping. Aside from head, ear, and eye movement, he stayed in that one spot the entire time Shaun. I mean, not even one step. I don't blame him though, he will probably stay there as long as he can till he is forced to move or it heals up enough to put pressure on it. I'm sure it don't feel good running on three legs with the damaged one swinging around.

I was letting Advance Auto Parts charge and test my batter yesterday and decided to run to Karins Kustard for a shake. As I pulled out, I glanced off in the woods at this little swampy, runoff area that I always look into expecting to see deer but never see any. Well I almost snapped my neck back when I realized there was a deer in there this time and of all things it had a rack on it! Not wanting to cause an accident, I pulled off into the next parking lot about a 100 yards away from the buck and parked. As I walked back along the road, I thought to myself that I may spook him as soon as he sees my walking the roadside but what the heck. It was just cool to see him in there. As I approach where I thought he was, I noticed him staring at me, and hadn't moved at all. He is an 8 pointer and best I can tell his right side is broke off. Lots of limbs in the way, but I couldn't see it. I stared at him just waiting for him to dart off. But he didn't. I noticed him raising his back left leg several times and was expecting each time to be him running away. After about 20 minutes I realized his leg that he kept raising had an injured spot on it. WIth the traffic through there, I'm assuming he got hit, but he could have gotten shot at the end of deer season. I'm leaning more towards being hit by a car. I called in to TWRA just to let them know. I didn't think there was anything they could do, but tried anyway. I hope he'll heal up. Pretty buck! All in all, I was there almost an hour just watching him from the road. It was awesome to see but sad because of the reason I was allowed such a long viewing of this tough feller. Sorry about the pictures but best I could do with my phone.

Y'all worry about all this technical crap...I'm watchin the cheerleaders! I'm actually looking forward to watching Peyton do his thing. I'm no UT fan at all, but he is dang good. And Seahawks defense should up his level of "I'm gonna break y'all down". Should be a good game.

:) I do hoard tools and I am fixin to be organizing like a madman because its driving me crazy! The Mrs didn't help any when she started her search for Christmas stuff! But, I still get to clean up the mess...I still love her though.

On this subject, they are full of that stuff the hogs waller in! Lets go back to the old rules TWRA!

I'm almost embarrassed to post pics of my garage in this shape, but deer hunters will understand..where's my <insert item>? Anything in the way gets thrown cause I'm on the way to the woods NOW LMAO! Anyway, I picked up a section of damaged racking from my work and bought some cross beams as well. I cut 2x4's to drop in the recess inside each beam as support for the plywood. I have beams on the bottom and was going to put plywood on it as well but decided the bottom beam would keep things with wheels from rolling out from under the bench and that with a shelf that low, undoubtedly there would be things rolling up underneath it that I wouldn't be able to reach.

Taking this out in the morning for a barrel break in and sight in session. Can't wait!!!
-
I will post a picture of mine once I get home. You won't be able to see much of the workbench but I like it.
-
DANG Spots! That looks wicked! Triple    !!!!!! So how much difference did it make weight wise? (like the difference between a rubber mallet and a Spots mallet?)
-
TDR, that looks identical to the one my Dad built. I worked on it a lot with him when I was a kid, and he still has and uses it to this day. Stout as a dang bull!

Awesome! Thanks for the update!
