Which flashlight is the best?
Citizen_B replied to gomer pyle's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
The Streamlight polytac hp is a small, lightweight light with great throw and not too expensive. -
Couple of guns I've worked on the last few days complete with crappy pics
Citizen_B replied to KKing's topic in Show and Tell
Nice work! Where did you get the aervoe paint? -
I like survival-pax.com for buying paracord. All of it is the real 7 interior strand stuff. Good prices and great color selection. Lots of other neat stuff on their site. The first business day of the month they do a paranoid by the pound sale. Good way to get lots of cord if you don't mind odd lengths and getting whatever colors they have. Paranoid by the pound tends to go quick once they put it up.

Anyone else notice the Magpul product placement this season? Lots of pmags and moe stocks.

Hmm, metal vs. plastic mags... I'd say yes.

What was their price for the M&P mags?

Surefire vs Streamlight vs Fenix vs 4Sevens vs Other
Citizen_B replied to GlockSpock's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Do it. You won't regret it. http://www.survival-pax.com/ is the best place I've found to get 4sevens and accessories ( and paracord and Mora knives ...). Nice folks that run it too. -
Surefire vs Streamlight vs Fenix vs 4Sevens vs Other
Citizen_B replied to GlockSpock's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've got a 4sevens quark, 2 aa model. Can't beat this light for an EDC / camping / have around the house light. Seems to be pretty durable and tough, at least as good as my streamlight. Very well built too, especially little details like the square machined threads. It's as bright as you need for general use, but I find myself using the lower modes at least as much as full on. Especially like the moonlight mode when the lights are out and I don't want to bother the wife or kids. The cr123 quark model burns a little longer and a little brighter but I wanted a more common and cheaper battery, plus I can use my rechargeable eneloops. I spent an extra ten bucks and got the tactical tail cap because I liked the momentary on / one handed thumb operation but didn't like the limited functionality of the tactical model. -
Glad to see another run being made at this. So what specifically has been done that addresses the Sheriff's Association's concerns?

I've used my Mora Companion probably more than any other knife over the last year or so that I've had it, primarily for various outdoor chores around the house. It's tough enough to stand up to hard work, but cheap enough that I'm not afraid to abuse it. Easy to sharpen to scary sharp too.

I've carried a Spyderco Delica most days for the last at least 15 years. Got several other folders I carry from time to time, but keep going back to the Delica. For me it's the perfect blend of size, weight, and utility. If what you're doing isn't broke, don't fix it.

If you're looking for something different and somewhat unique, try a Smith & Wesson 457. It's been discontinued for a few years, but shouldn't be too hard to find a used one hanging around somewhere. This is one of Smith's most underated pistols. Fits all of your criteria; all metal (as long as you count the aluminum frame), DA/SA, carries easily (not too heavy and thin), and about $500 if you can find one. 7 round single stack .45acp. Probably very comparable in size and weight to your Colt. This review is a few years old, but rates it against a couple of current popular carry guns: http://www.kahr.com/Reviews2007/gun-tests.asp

"Tactical" Pants (5.11 Dress/Khaki/Cargo/etc)
Citizen_B replied to GlockSpock's topic in General Chat
I've got a pair of Tru Spec 24/7 pants that I really like. Coyote color is nice looking, more like a dark khaki. Pockets are plentiful and logical. They're ripstop poly/cotton blend and are definitely cooler than jeans. -
+1 on Charlie Haffners. Most people shoot rifles from bench or standing, but I shoot prone or kneeling just as much as I shoot standing. Bring a mat or blanket if you go there since the firing line is gravel.

Tramontina is hard to beat at $6. Add another few bucks and you've got a sheath. Yes, they do come dull but you'll evevtually be sharpening any machete anyway so might as well learn how to on the front end. I got mine from suvival-pax.com. They also carry Ontario and Gerber. Good stuff cheap and good people to deal with (and the paracord by the pound deal is pretty cool).

Dura Coat vs Cera Coat....others
Citizen_B replied to chipperi's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Is there anywhere in middle TN that carries duracoat or gun-kote for retail sale? Would like to do a small test run but shipping for a small quantity from Lauer or Brownells is outrageous. -
+1on the Winchester Defender. Great pump gun.

Used a dremel once on a POS Gerber that out of the box rivaled the worst butter knife for sharpness. Used the dremel just for starter to establish an edge and then moved on to the stone. It's a half straight, half serated blade, so I also used the dremel to grind an edge on the serations. Ugly as sin sharpening job altogether, especially on the serations. Finally got the straight portion of the blade good and sharp, and the serations cut much better than before. Definitely not something you want to do with an anything other than an absolute beater, and even then it's only a start and take it slow so that it doesn't get too hot.

Very nice! I love my Model 60. It was my grandfather's, so besides being an all around great gun, it has special meaning to me. Enjoy!

I've got a Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Applications 2 point that I really like. Easy adjust when you want it to, and DOESN'T adjust when you DON'T want it to. Have it attached to a Magpul MOE handguard with a magpul MOE sling mount and a mash hook. Rear attachment is via quick disconnect to a built in QD hole in the stock. If I were running a railed handguard, I'd probably opt for a QD mount and QD sling swivel. Probably going to change out front attachment to a Mount-N-Slot QD at some point.

I dont know how much more we can take
Citizen_B replied to BlackHawk93's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I agree with your sentiment BlackHawk. As a father of two young boys (4 & 7), I had to really think through the issue a few years ago. I have taught both my boys about firearm safety, they know the difference between a real firearm and their toy guns, and they know that they can handle a real firearm anytime they ask, but it has to be with Dad's permission. My biggest fear for them is that they will be at the house of another not so responsible owner whose child gets a hold of their firearm, so they know that if they see another child with a gun they need to run and tell an adult. As far as firearms inside our home, for me it boiled down to an honest assessment of risk. I had to ask myself if there is more risk of a bad guy harming my family inside our home or more risk of my family being harmed by one of our boys or a child visitor (there seems to be a constant stream of neighborhood kids in and out of the house, which I love) with one of my firearms. I've been blessed with the talents and abilities to provide my family with home in a community very free of violent crime. When I factor those risks, the choice for me is to keep my firearms locked in the safe when one (or more) is not on my person. -
BRITS SHOCKED AT EASY AVAILABILITY OF KNIVES
Citizen_B replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Word has it that hammers, cricket bats, sticks, and other instruments of "bludgeoning violence" are readily accessible in the UK as well. The horror. -
Incredible how the mass media can only blame the NRA, as if there's not a single citizen out there NOT in support of gun control. It's always just the NRA / gun lobby that is defeating gun control efforts. They can't seem to admit that citizens by the thousands are speaking out, testifying, and writing their representatives in opposition to more gun control legislation.
