In view of your single action preference, the Sig 938 (9mm) or very pocketable Sig 238 (.380) are worth a look. Unlikely to be under the $500 ceiling. Sig is, unfortunately, very proud of them.

The previous Sig 228's are nice also. The slides are folded carbon steel on the 228's instead if the machined stainless of the 229s. The balance is a bit different between the two.

12 Ga. Federal LE Tactical Low Recoil 9 pellet 00 Buck in my Beretta 1301. It has a velocity of 1145 fps. The FLITECONTROL wad is reputed help keep the pellet grouping nice and tight. Several manufacturers have similar types of pattern control wads for smooth bores, Hornaday VersaTite is another one.

A couple of customs visited me recently

Wow! Can't imagine the price point especially on the Chavez. With the exception of his trademark skull on the clip it is perfection! Thanks for posting these. -
Those do look solid! The price points seem very fair for the quality. I'd be willing to pay 10% plus to have one without the HUGE marque on it.

Counting the days also for the L7 Lancers. Last I heard, this April is the release month. Lancer has got to be on Magpul's "radar screen".

Always nice to see caring folks going to the trouble of helping a lost animal! Enjoyed all the dog photos! Maybe someone will start a dog photo thread so I can live vicariously.
-
Very nice! Put the safety on the frame where God intended and it would be even nicer.
-
Nice "Opus 1"! Be sure and come up with a nice custom marking for it.

The finish on the black Stoeger Cougars does have a bit more sheen but seems to hold up well. They have excellent build quality at a good price. When they first came out they were around $350 and included 3 beretta mags. They may have inched up in price?

Yep, the new Beretta 1301 Tactical is getting excellent reviews! It is too bad the 922r import restrictions cramp it's' capacity. It seems the new gas system will allow reliable firing of a wide gamut of shells. The Beretta expansion to Tennessee is great news!

Should be a great technology business magnet for the area! Great news!

Another vote for the Browning Citori if it fits you. The 12 gauge is a bit heavy for some folks' taste; the 20 gauge Citori would be nice for Upland.

The little steel Walthers are beautiful classics to my eyes and one that feeds reliably is a keeper for sure. BUT from a practical viewpoint time has marched on in terms of firearm size and fire power. .380 with the newer ammo is still fine for pocket carry during the warmer months but for that I think highly of the little single action Sig 238. It is an incredibly soft shooting .380. The Walther is a blow back design and (to me) it feels like I am firing a 9mm round.

The Vepr .308 made by the Molot Arsenal in Russia are like any model they make i.e. built like tanks and very well finished. Good stock wood as well.

For carry and defensive purposes I have found it best to avoid "phase" changes. I want to maintain ingrained handling and muscle memory. For all other firearm purposes "phases" rule!

Have you considered adding a bolt action but staying with a round that you already use? Since you have an AK you might consider adding a CZ527 carbine size bolt action. It is shocking how accurate that little rifle can perform using the lowly 7.62x39. Of course it doesn't have the long range capability of a .308 but is much less expensive when it comes to feeding it. A lot of suggestions have been put out there but what is your purpose for the new addition?
-
Nice! That looks like a Samson (?sp) hand guard!

I'm betting you will not feel short changed at all with the SLP! The M4 as it comes with the non functioning mag tube extension is just a sad silly example of the import restrictions. So many wind up spending more $$$ to extend the mag and also to exchange U.S. Made parts in order to stay with the 922 import guidelines. You're likely getting most all you will want with the SLP other than a light and a light mount. Congratulations on the order. Please let us know how long it takes to receive your order. Looking forward to your first outing impressions!

wareagle, how was your 930 SPX when you first function tested it? Any pointers on breaking it in?

whitewolf001 - "Djay3, is your flash hider longer than a A2 on your piston setup?" Yes, the A2 style flash hider on the Sabre is approximately 1/4" longer than a basic A2 (just based on eye balling it).
-
I can understand that! Just merely handling an M4 recently showed me it oozes quality and fine fitment. It is probably a good thing I was only able to handle it. It is a shame that as equipped (as imported) they are unable to sport a 7 round tube.

Thanks for the various replys. Not turning my back on my AR for home defense purposes. But I remain interested in gaining some facility in handling a defensive setup semi shotgun. As much of an interest as a need.
-
Well, I suppose springing for a defensive setup Benelli would likely buy me assured reliability, pride of ownership and good back end resale value! All are pretty good reasons to pay up front and only cry once.
-
Nice well finished job! Although mainly for appearance, have you given any thought to rounding the front of the trigger guard?
