1.  Are the mainspring housings plastic or metal ?
2. I have searched on here for other Rock Island Armory threads but couldn't get all my questions answered. I understand that the RIA 1911 5 inch standard "GI" model is pretty much a copy of the ones made in WWII. I understand they are a series 70 type but with a flared ejection area and beveled magazine well. I hear that they shoot FMJ's  very reliably which is what the 1911 was made to shoot . As far as hollow point ammo , I wouldn't be shooting that anyways in this gun if I got it. Just cheap FMJ's that I will reload. I think they are cast frames and MIM parts.    Other than all that I listed above , what else is there to know about these guns ? The good and bad ? Now that I am reloading , I want to get a good but cheap 1911 and all I study and read leads me to RIA. I have a nice Springfield 1911 so there's no need to save up additional money to get a "good" or "better" 1911.   Just to make it clear , I am looking at the Rock Island Armory basic "GI" 1911 (plain jane) model. No bells no whistles.
3. I like that . Looks like it doesn't have the key-lock safety hole on it. Nice ! Were the frames made of Aluminum then or steel ?
4.  I am hunting the southeast portion of Montgomery county. I am hearing lots of shots but then again it may be coming from across the river in the other county. I am hunting right at the edge of the river. Cheatham is on the other side of the river bank. Everytime I go out i hear at least 4 booms .
5. Well it's December 2014 and I have only shot one young deer. I am a meat hunter and not a trophy hunter so I dont care about the antlers. But I have only saw three. I had a chance to shoot at some deer about two different times but couldn't get my muzzleloader turned around in time. It took me 3 minutes to get my gun into a position to shoot and then they turned into a bush . They were about 30 feet from me  . Is there anyone here that is still seeing deer active in the woods ? I'm just wondering if I am the only one having bad luck. Here's a picture of the one I got a few days ago . At this rate I can't be choosy , if it's brown without spots , it's going down , LOL
6. CZ's will allow you to shoot like a champion ! My CZ75 all steel pistol let me shoot like I had been shooting for 45 years .
7. SonnyCrockett , if you don't mind , could you please post a picture of what the frame rails look like on the inside of the frame ? I'm really curious and interested . I am a huge CZ fan but I had a tough time when the P-07 came out. CZ ended up giving me a whole new gun. But I am willing to bet that this one is a well running machine.
8. ............
9.     Then get a Springfield 1911. I have a Mil-Spec 1911 that I bought in 2004 and it's a running son of a gun . It is simple , runs any ammo , and made in the USA . No Brazil , no foreign parts. I took out the factory "key lock" safety and replaced it with a regular mainspring housing . That took only 5 minutes. Other than that it is all stock and runs like a champ. I like it so much that I got my teenage son the same one a few months ago. I changed out the same thing like I stated above and it's just like the other . They run like a well oiled sewing machine . Makes you wonder about all the other people who complain about their 1911's not running right and all because these Springfield's I have are fine machines .
10. I read in the original poster , LINKS2K , that Alien Gear forgot to stamp the Alien on his leather , heck I think that is awesome . I love these holsters , but if I could get mine without the writing and picture of the alien then that would be even better . But all in all , this company rocks . I have 3 and when I wear them i almost forget that I have a gun in my waist band . I The newer belt loops that are made of plastic are awesome ! I hated the metal ones because they were so tight and the edges were sharp but the plastic ones ROCK . I think these guys have blown away Galco , DeSantis , Gould And Goodrich, Comp-Tac , and so on in my opinion. Hopefully the money and fame will not go to their head and then they start failing like "other" companies seem to do when they get overly confident,,,,,hhmmmm , I better not say the name .
11. The Bushmaster rifle is a tool . I have one and it is just as much a tool as my Craftsman ratchet. I use my Craftsman and I use my Bushmaster. If I go and crack my neighbor's skull , killing him with the Craftsman , why should there be any difference ? $ucking idiots is all I have to say . I use a Bushmaster at work along with other tools that keep the public and myself safe . These idiots that are suing have lost their ever-living mind in my opinion. They make no sense . If my loved one got killed by Bushmaster or anything else that did not malfunction and was used BY THE OPERATOR as in this case , I would not sue the maker. People in this day and age have lost all common sense PERIOD .
12. Hey Graycrait, the same day you told me about that same pawn shop I went up there and found this P95. I had been looking for one to shoot my reloads in. I put in on layaway that day. I just got it out yesterday. $269 with original box , 2 mags and all papers. Not bad for a little reliable "tank". I'm sure if it were at the other Pawn shops it would be a lot higher . By the way , I love your little Beretta 950. I've always thought they were kinda neat in their own way .
13.  Yep , I use Mobil 1 in my Toyota and guns. If I am storing them for a long time I pack them full of RIG grease . Never had a problem with Mobil 1 nor RIG . Two great products.
14. Are you still needing any ? I just got a deer and gonna butcher him up now before the temp gets warm . I'll freeze the legs if thats ok until I can get down to your area either next week or so . Will freezing them hurt them for whatever you're gonna do ?

Baretta M9

I have both . Both shoot very well. The Beretta's slide feels like it is on ball bearings. Very nice . But I would go with the Glock. I once detail stripped the Beretta . The amount of levers and springs and pins are unbelieveable. With the Glock , there's only about 34 parts and there's no need for any special tool to completely detail strip it. The Beretta is very nice looking but the GLock is my answer for it will always work period. The beretta will eventually fail or break or something. I'm a hobby mechanic so i put it in these terms : The Beretta is a Cadilac and the Glock is a Toyota truck . This is my $.02 .
16. Yesterday the wind was blowing too much here in Montgomery county . I'm gonna try it again today . I did hear around 6 "booms" around me in a 1 mile diameter . Maybe I dont smell good .
17. So he took out her backstraps/loins and left the rest of the body to rot ?
18. Thanks guys . I guess I'm gonna start looking and reading on it a lot.
19.    I'd get the G22 for the fact that it can be all detail stripped with a nail or punch or whatever sharp thing you have laying around . The M&P is nice and is great too. I had one . But it has roll pins that need a roll pin punch and hammer to detail strip.  They will both serve you well !
20. I took apart a Beretta Cougar . I made the decocker/safety into a "decoker only" to where the lever would spring right back up after depressing it. The little coil spring in that lever is a ***** to get back in . I started to sweat and worry that I may never get it back in. But it all worked and the modification was really neat afterwards.
21. No problem
22.    I just learned how to detail-strip my P-97 Ruger the other day. It wasn't as hard as I thought. Now a Beretta is a different story  :ugh:
23. I do all my own processing and I will start hunting Nov 12. Would you want the feet froze in a zip lock bag ? I use the meat all the way down to where the legs kinda turns into lots of tendons which ranges around 8-12 inches from the hoofs. I cut cut it a little higher if you want. My wife and me like to go into the Nashville and Springfield area around 2 times a month to shop. I can freeze the feet and when I go through there I can bring them to meet you somewhere in the Springfield and Nashville area. Just post a picture of how your project turns out later
24. I have a Longbow that I made myself from hickory several years ago. I'm pretty good with it but I've never hunted with it.  I have always been interested in compound bows but I know eactly 100% about them. I'm mainly wanting one to harvest deer for meat and the fun factor of shooting all year without buying and reloading ammo .  I've heard that Baer and PSE are good starter brands. But what is a good draw weight for killing deer ?  My longbow has a draw weight of 50LBs. About how much money is involved in starting out ? I know these are broad questions but I guess I gotta start somewhere .
25. This is my families land and its right in the middle of it. No where near a property line . So there shouldn't be any confusion on the theives side as to weather or not its on his side or ours. Just assholes.
