  1. I set out today to go buy the new Ruger American pistol. My local shop had one for trials and rental . Now I gve most brands the benefit of the doubt and so I was all set to buy it . My friend that works there gave me the new Ruger and some ammo and told me to go shoot it. I took it to the range there . Now guys I am an old country boy so I may not use the correct terms here .  The trigger and reset were just almost not there. I could barely feel where the trigger resets and it is hardly audible at all. The trigger had to go almost all the way forward to reset itself. I beleive if you rapidly fired this pistol you would easily "short-stroke" the trigger and it wouldn't fire. The trigger pull feels like one of those stress balls that you squeeze where the rubber is very soft . It almost seems like the striker barely has enough power to pierce the primer.  I love the feel of the gun . The rear of the grip where it meets your thumbs when firing did not bother me at all . I know a lot of people have said this bites their thumb knuckle , but it did not bother me at all. Accuracy was good . Recoil was good.  I have shot Glocks for 20 years and carried one on my job for 18 yrs so I am very used to how they work. I also shoot a S&W M&P9 . Both have a good positive trigger and reset . And as some of you guys know , I am a huge fan of Ruger's old P-Series pistols . I still have a few that I shoot regulary. The big ole fat and ugly ones but even they have better triggers than this new Ruger . I also noticed that when I took this new Ruger's slide off that it has no conventional trigger bar like Glock and the M&P has . It was very new to me and I did not undertsand it's "guts" as comapared to what I am used to.  So I decided to keep my money and just wait it out. I was sssoooooo set on getting this pistol. I still hope it does well and I may eventually get one , but I am gonna wait it out for a while and see if Ruger does anything with this trigger. The shop said that they are going to keep running this pistol on the rental range and not clean it to see how well it does. I am anxious to see how it does too.  Guys I didn't mean to jabber on and on but I thought I'd share my experience that I had today. Like I said , I will hold out for Ruger to see if they "upgrade" this trigger and/or fix or change anything else.  Until then if I see an old P90 in .45ACP in great shape  I may just buy it instead   Have a great day guys /gals
  2. Hey thanks to all you guys  . This gives me some real good choices to look through. I sure appreciate it and so does my back LOL
  3.    Mine was in a 2003 Mustang MACH 1 and there was absolutely 1/2 inch cleareance all the way around and a nightmare . I eventually borrowed a transmission jack but these newer cars are a nightmare and clearly put togather on the assembly line building the whole damn car around the engine and transmission with no room for clearence nor the shad tree mechanic .LOL .
  4.    You know I forgot all about Carrhart   I think I'll run by CO-OP tomarrow and maybe Tracter Supply Co and see if they have any . And yes thanks for reminding me about getting wide straps to keep from digging into the shoulders.  I still have the body to wear a beltlike normal but I am trying to save my back as much as I can . I took out a transmission a few months back , fixed it and put it back in on my own and that did a number on me , reminding me I am not 20 anymore.
  5. This may seem a bit strange , but do any of you guys wear suspenders to help keep your pants up ? I'm in my 40's and like most on here wear a gun on my belt for carry when I am not working. But I carry a dutybelt at work 12 hrs a day that weighs about 18lbs. When I am not working I like to give my waist and lower back a rest . I got to thinking maybe getting a pair of suspenders to wear along with my belt on my days off.  Any of you guys do this ? Or do any of you guys normally wear suspenders at all ? I dont know where to look for a pair or at least a pair that look decent . Most look like they are all nylon and fragile .
  6.    Oh ok , I'm blonde so I don't always catch on so fast  .  I am a Glock fan boy but I am very interested in this Ruger. I got a P95 , P89 , and P94 . All fat and ugly but work extremely fine . I am hoping these work just as fine. I never got any of the SR series , but I like I said , I have their first line of polymer guns , the P95 and it has been great .
  7.    So did you get one way early ? I thought these were just released ?
  8.    Like what ? I read good and bad comments but most didn't mean much , just people's personal preferece. Was there something that someone said that was important ?
  9.    Maybe becuase he refuses to review crappy guns . I would be the same . If I did what he did and was given a piece of $hit and tried it out , I would just send it back in to the company and explain to them that it wouldn't be a good review.
  10.    I felt bad for Jeff in that video. He sounded like he had the flu or bad sinus infection. But he did a good review !
  11. A short trigger reset is nice but it's not a deal breaker to me. My Ruger P95 has a lonnnnnggggg trigger reset but it's still in my stable . I just mentioned it becuase The only striker fired pistol I ever had was a GLock and an M&P .
  12. I just handled one at my local shop. It felt great and is a bit bigger and thicker than I thought. Kinda felt like the size of a Glock 17 or 22 but heavier. The trigger break feels a little on the soft side but I am just used to shooting Glocks. When reseting the trigger , there was quite a long ways for the trigger to tavel forward before it reset. Longer than a GLock or M&P . The one they had had been shot quite a bit and had the usual shiny wear that some guns get on the barrel hood and on top of the chamber where the barrel locks up into the slide. If I sell one of my Glocks that I have for sale ,I will definitley buy this new Ruger in 9mm. The fact that Ruger left off the big ole flimsy looking loaded chamber indicator that is on the SR series is great to me . And no more thumb safety is great too.  I was pleased at looking and handling it .
  13. I have the Glock 22 thats shoots the .40S&W  plus I have the Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel that allows me to shoot 9mm in it also . Two guns in one .
  14. I hope this Ruger American pistol ends up being an awesomely reliable gun. I hope it gives Glock some competition among the people who want an all American gun.  Right now , in my opinon , it's hard to find much American things that run reliabily , for instance cars and truck . That's why I buy Japanese cars and trucks. So I hope this American Pistol turns out to be the most awesome thing since Glock made the 17 back in the 80's. I am a big Glock and Ruger fan but lots of people kind of turn their heads on Ruger when they hear of one running very well or shooting great and so on . Some people just dont seem to think they can do what S&W , H&K , Berettea ,or GLock can do . I beleive they can and I sure hope this turns out great .  This is really funny , cause when I first seen this pistol a few days ago , I thought it looked terrible , but it seems to be growing on me now. I got burned by buying a brand new "just released" pistol by CZ when the P-07 came out and it was a "dud" , but I am really aiming to try this new Ruger American pistol.
  15. Go and handle a Shield and a Glock 43 at a gun shop. I have both . Both work great for me . For me the Glock 43 is smaller and more thinner since it doesnt have the take-down lever sticking outwards. I pick the Glock 43 . You can't go wrong with either.   I will add this : Take a Shield or a Glock 43 . put each of them in an IWB holster and you wont even know they are there. I carry each of mine in an Alien Gear IWB holster and I have to check just to make sure they are they. They are each great guns . Mine eat factory ammo and my own reloads like candy .
  16. Is there any close-up pictures with the slide off so you can see down into the trigger springs and workings ?
  17. If Ruger keeps it internal parts down to a minumum like GLock and they build this thing as tough as the old P-Series , then I can overcome the look and will definitly get one.  Especially if that price stays low enough. I think someone said Whittakers had them for $420 .
  18.    Yeah the P-Series were fat and ugly but now they have been running all these years even after production and their true beauty is how tough and reliable they are. They are built like tanks . If these newer Rugers turn out the same then I can overlook the uglyness.  I really hope Ruger does do well with it. I have a handfull of the older P-series and they are tough as tanks but run like a fine sewing machine.
  19. Oh Man that looks like a love-child  made from a Steyr and a Walther that just had some nasty sweaty sex.  I like Ruger and there aren't many guns I think are ugly , but this is one UGLY gun. That grip looks very uncomfortable too.
  20. I put it in today and it took at least 3lbs off of the trigger pull. I am very pleased. I haven't shot any ammo through it cause I'm still sick but it was definitely worth the $19
  21. My Ghost Connector got here a few days ago but i've been so sick that I cant even manage to install it. I caught Pneumonia and had a consistant 104 degree fever. This stuff has worn me out. I been on the couch for 4 days straight. When I get up and around I'll let you guys know how it feels when I install it.
  22. Man i thought I was the only one thinking the same thing. Old CO2 refills LOL
  23. They mentioned "old habits" on the other firearms . GOOD LORD, what the heck would they be doing on their older guns ? Resting their fingers on the triggers ? STUPID
  24. I am not trying to be the fashion police but I liked Han's jacket. One thing I have always liked was how Han's blaster was always carried  like a thigh holster.
  25.    Yep ! Remember what happended here in Clarksville in January of 1999 ? All of downtown was torn up by a tornado in the middle of winter. Badly . It was around 4 am but if it had been later when everyone was at work there would be a lot killed. I got called into work when it hit to help look for poeple . When I arrived downtown the streets were at least 4 feet deep with bricks from buildings. Buldozers and backhoes were used to clear all that out of the way. Lots of patrols cars and fire trucks had flat tires from the nails and metal stuck in their tires.
