When I am not sure about a gun but I really want it I run the $hit out of it and I abuse it . I did this with my Glock 43 . As you can see in the picture , it has scratches and scars but no rust. I ran a lot of rounds through it and scratched it up a lot and still no rust and no failures. The 43 is a keeper for me.

My Glock 43 has been tossed into a tool box , the floorboard of my beater , and ran hard and put up wet. I purposely did it just to see if this new design would run good and hold up and I still have no failures and no rust even though I have scratched the crap out of it . The Glock 43 is a keeper for me. If I make a quick run to Walmart in the middle of the night for milk or whatever I put the 43 in my pajama pants or shorts and its all good.

Glock 30 goodness

I have had both and got rid of my Shield and still carry my Glock 43. I coose the Glock because of its simplicity. I can detail strip it with only a punch , a nail , or even with an ink pen. With the Shield you need a roll-pin punch and other tools. The Glock 43 is just a nice gun and mine has eaten all rounds that I have fed it. I reload and it shoots them all just fine. I say go with the Glock 43 .

I am very familiar with that same phrase "don't tell my wife" . When my wife catches me with a new gun I tell her "at least guns and shooting is way better than chasing women and hanging out in bars" -

Guns And Leather had this older used Glock 30 for $395. Night sights still bright and the original box. I saw it one day , talked myself out of it. Went back again and talked myself out of it. Then went AGAIN and bought it . It still had factory copper grease in the slide. Hardly any wear and it's guts looked brand new. To me it was awesome to get a big-bore Glock at $395 in this shape. Most people like the Glock 19 . For me it's the older original Glock 30 . -
The fire control assembly is a little complicated but at least its less complicated than the Ruger American's fire control assembly. I was really hoping that Glock would get picked. It's so much more simpler all the way around than this pistol and the present Beretta.

I love that older worn metal on those two pistols at top.

Don't get me wrong , do whatever you want on your own property , but when you got thugs and dopeheads going in and out of these gas stations and you leave a perfectly good car or truck running , youre asking for trouble. I just happned to see a real nice truck running and unlocked and thought how crazy that seemed. Plus the wind was so strong and I decided to call it quits on working on a vehicle I have at the house. I went inside and I got to drinking and "buzz posting" on TGO

Don't get me wrong , warming up an engine is fine , I just don't understand why leaving an engine running for over 15 minutes or more is necessary. Like someone running it for over an hour on their lunch break while parked outside the restaurant. Just dumb but hey its their engine.
-
I have never understood this. I know about cold weather climates and diesel engines so ignore that. I mean leaving your car or truck running when going into a gas station or place to eat or shop or whatever . I may not have a valuable vehicle but it's mine and I will turn it off to keep people from stealing it and to keep it from being damaged by a possible cooling system failure. People laugh , but at work I witnessed a person leaving their work vehicle running. The engine's cooling system failed and the engine overheated and parts cracks and broke. I never got the whole engine diagnosis but this will crack the whole block. And on the other side , leaving your engine running will promote theft. It takes a few seconds to bust a window and take off with a vehicle. This week alone , I have saw over 20 vehicles that I could have stolen. I guess people don't care. I work hard for my money and though I may not have much , I value what little I have .

Here mine is with ammo in the magazine with the slide locked back. Look here at how well that cartridge is lined up ready to slide right into the chamber. It just "wants" to chamber ammo. There is hardly any way it can misfeed or jam up. The cartridge is perfectly lined up and flat with the barrel .

I was supposed to change out a fuel pump and fuel sending unit but its snowing like crazy and I aint dipping my hands in gas at 30 degree weather. So here is some pictures of my idea of Glock perfection. My 21 , 17 , and 30 . Going to do some annual cleaning and calm my nerves LOL . That G21 is a beast and I love it. No finger grooves and just a sweet shooter. Glock at it's best. My G17 is the 2-pin early model. So simple and not at all complicated. People say they are ugly but their reliable function makes them look better than most others. Ballistol and Mobil One is in the air

I usually wear my Glocks and other carry guns in a IWB holster. Do you think the new texture on the 45 Shield will rub my skin raw ?
-
No harm meant toward you and other owners. I have read about a load of failures. After my CZ P-07 crap , I just rather skip the 36. It seems to have always been Glocks "red-headed step-child" in my opinion and quite a few others . I would GLADLY love to hear from the newer Glock 36 owners. The newer ones that are around 2 years or newer and the ones that have the frame light-rail. I'd rather get a Glock anyday over the Shield but as of right now , it is pointing towards the Shield 45 .

I am hoping that musicman will join in here again and let us know if he ever got one . He is a big M&P fan and owner. Hopefully he can tell us more .
-
And I am sure it is but to me it's a big gamble and/or hit and miss. I once took a chance on a new pistol that was $500 . It was new and there were a few people having problems but not all. Just like the G36. Well wouldn't you know it , mine was screwed up bigtime. BRAND NEW out of the box. CZ P-07. CZ sent me a new one but I was so paranoid afterwards that I traded it.
-
No way on the 36 . I have seen too many bad experiences with it to try and chance $500 on the 36 and I am saying that even though I am a hue Glock fan . The only 2 things I hate about the M&P line is the fact that the safety plunger and all is held in by the rear sight and that they use roll-pins instead of solid pins. But I am willing to accept that in this 45acp Shield .
-
I am going to revive this thread How is the M&P Shield 45 functioning for you owners out there ? I'll always keep my Glock 30 for sure , but I am about to make an impulse buy and pick one of these Shield's in 45ACP up . Just wanting to hear some updated feedback , negative or positive is appreciated .

I was able to look at one of these in person today ( January 2017 ) . It is a big "duty size" pistol. The guy at the counter would not remove the trigger-lock mechanism ( store policy I guess ). I was really interested in looking under the slide to see how the trigger plunger/safety looks but couldn't see much with the slide on. I do like fullsize pistols like the big Glock 21/20 and such. So this was nice to me but I just couldn't get much of a good grip with that darn store trigger lock on it. I know that Remington hasn't had good luck this year with the R51 but this RP9 looks very sturdy and even seems to have that "overbuilt" type look like the Ruger P-Series had in the earlier years. I guess I'll have to wait to handle another one at a different store to check one more thoroughly.

Engine oil for my Glocks , and 1911 , grease and engine oil on my AR , and Ballistol to clean them all and for lubrication sometime too. Ballistol kinda seems to help guns get a "seasoned" layer on them where it's easier to clean them after using Ballistol on them a few times. Kinda like when you season a cast iron pan and it becomes better and better where the food doesn't stick.

Awesome . Thanks a bunch guys . I think I'll start towards reloading them soon . . I was just worried about having to do something drastically different than the 223/556 cartridge. So thanks a bunch !
