1. This is big in the Glock world - coloring in the lettering on the slide and barrel. I had some touch up paint for my car (desert sand), so I decided to color in the "Walther" and "PPS" on the slide. I don't understand why they left these untouched. My paint is not as flat as the gold on the other side of the gun, but I think it turned out pretty well.
2. If I recall correctly, the Kahr CM9 slide rides along the polymer frame, right?  Or does the slide ride on steel pieces set into the polymer?  The PPS rides along a metal slide the entire way.
3. I bought the PPS.  I was looking hard at the Kahr CM9, but read too many problems and complaints in Kahr forums and other places.     It is nice to see that there are Kahrs out there that are functioning as they should.  They have a great price point!

Went with the PPS

Thank you for the vote of confidence.  It certainly does feel nice and solid.  I hope to put about 100 down the range tomorrow.

Thin 9mm

I am LOOKING for a Shield!!!  But today I bought my second choice for thin 9mm - the Walther PPS.   I will fire it tomorrow.
8. Wasn't looking for one so soon, but Academy Sports had the Walther PPS in stock. As I was pondering my decision (which took about 30 minutes walking around the store and weighing pros and cons) it hit me. I doubt I will find a Shield within the next few months. And as it stands, my Glock 19 spends most of its time in my bedside table because it is so thick. Better to have my second place gun with me, than none at all. In addition, this is a BB coded date stamp, so it is the updated PPS. It feels a lot different than my Glock. Much tighter and makes more clicking noises when I rack the slide (the Glock is butter smooth). But I noticed those clicks on other guns on Youtube, so I am not worried about it. Hope to make it to the range tomorrow to start breaking it in. Man, this thing was covered in cosmoline! Here it is. I think it's a very nice looking firearm. I just hope I don't run across a Shield anytime soon, because I will snatch it up as well.
9. Thanks.  I will do some research on the Bersa.  First thing I ever do with a gun is google "Problems with".     That didn't bode well for the older PPS, but the newer ones seem to be a bit better.
10. Heck, you can't even find the PPS these days.  I guess I will wait until spring.  I will have more than enough money saved up by then to not put half on my credit card.
11. Thank you for the post.
12. do you know about how many rounds you have put through it?
13. Not all were the old date codes if I recall.  Several that were bought this year.  I know to look for a BB or BC stamp.   I want to love the PPS, but I am very cautious at this point.  It is a hassle to send a gun in, no matter how great customer service is.  Maybe I am spoiled by my Glock.
14. Well, dang.  After spending some time on the Walther PPS forum, I just don't want to take the chance that I will get a gun that I have to send back for repair / replacement.   Just simply too many people with FTF / FTE / Failure to go back into battery.  I thought Walther had a great reputation for quality, but when a Walther forum is full of problems, too many red flags go up.   Yes, some people never have a problem.  But knowing my luck, I will get a lemon.   Maybe by next summer I will be able to find a Shield.
15. Thanks for all the input!
16.   I definitely want to shoot both before I make the final decision.  And with the wait time on the Shield, I have plenty of time to do that.  Thanks for your reply.
17. That is what I hear from several PPS owners.  I guess I will see if I can get on some waiting lists here in K-town.     That Shield is one heck of a gun...
18. Looking for something a bit more narrow than my Glock 19 (or a Glock 26, for that matter) for EDC.  I LOVE Glocks, and the 26 was going to be my next gun.  But after much research, I think the Shield would be more comfortable thanks to the narrow profile.   Now, we all know that Shields are next to impossible to find.  The next best thing (in my opinion), is the Walther PPS.     I have read too many problem stories about the Kahr CM9 to consider it - which is sad, because it seems like a nice gun as far as size goes.   So, do I go ahead and get the PPS, or wait until the Shield becomes available?  My heart tells me to wait, even if it takes till next October.  I just don't know.   Thanks for the opinions.  And Merry Christmas, everyone!
19. My first handgun was a Ruger SR9C.  I wanted to love it, because I didn't want to be just another guy with a Glock.   I shot a Gen4 19.  Sold the Ruger.   Love my Glock.  My groups were much better with the 19, and it just felt better when firing.   I love the M&P 9c, and considered adding one to my collection (of 1).  But I don't see the need to have more than one 9mm handgun when the Glock does everything I need a handgun to do.
20. Online petitions are worthless.
21. Words are not enough.  Those poor kids, and now those traumatized families.  I have said several prayers today for them.   On the issue of gun control - these things seem to happen where guns are banned.    Easy pickings for the sick minded criminals.
22. Took my class on 10/27/12. Application and finger printed on 10/29/12. Received my permit today 12/8/12. Not too bad. Sooner than I expected. Just wanted to put this out for those who wonder how long it is taking these days.
23. Just passing this along. My permit arrived today, sooner than I expected. Application and Finger printed on 10/29, permit arrived 12/8. Not bad.
24.
This is almost always due to trigger control/squeeze. ( yanking on the trigger) practice staging the trigger.
That's what I have been working on. Thanks for the advice.
