  1. Great little gun for plinking.  However, I have to clean mine about every 500 rounds, especially when used with a can.  I got mine because I always wanted the "real deal" HK but I doubt a select fire is in my future and this was the next best plinker that resembled it.  Personally, I love Ruger 10/22's, but since you have one might suggest a bolt action 22 like a Savage.  I got a TRRSR and out of the box it is awesome.  We regularly shoot groups smaller than 1" at 100 yards with it running WOLF MT or CCI Standard Velocity.  If you are really interested in a semi auto gun only then the HK is alot of fun, but dont expect 10/22 like performance.  To me the only drawback was the frequent need for cleaning and the break down process.  It's not difficult by any means, but it does require a few tools, whereas others might just have one take down screw etc.  Hope this helps.
  2. Yep, and all I ordered was decapping pins, a de-mooner, and some puller collets.  Placed order on Mar 31, got the confirmation email, and then nothing since........  It is what it is, but I am not really pleased.  I imagine there are a lot of folks still scrambling trying to get into reloading.  Dillon offers one of the best reloaders out there to mass produce decent stuff, I personally use a 550, so I kinda understand. But still it would be nice to get an update of some sort or anticipated ship date.  Knowing nothing sucks.
  3. I use 842 and David's pulls for 223.  I chrony everything and go for accuracy.  I landed at a favorite load of 24.6 grains of 842, with a CCI SR Primer, OAL of 2.235".  They function well, dont flatten or eject primers, hold about 1.5" at 100 yards using a 9 power Nikon, and run nice and cool.     I was going for 3100 fps, but accuracy diminished over 24.7 grains.  With the 24.6 grain load I got the following velocities:   3086 3075 3076 3080 3082 3075 3075 3079 3081 3078   I was very happy with the consistency of the speeds. And the speeds landed me really close to the drops in my Nikon 600 yard reticle scope...which I was only able to test out to 300.     Hope this helps.   Tim
  4. Waits for others to pick up brass and then snatches it out of their range bags. While singing been caught stealing by Janes Addiction.
  5. Since getting my casting stuff a few months ago I have cast over 2000 230g 45, and 2000 127gr 9mm, and several hundred 240gr 44. A year ago I would have scoffed at all the work that goes into it. I was happy to pay for jacketed bullets and go straight to finding my "sweet: load. Nowadays....I am so glad I got into casting and didn't put it off any longer. I didn't get fancy dies, just the lee TL type for all of my calibers (pistol). I've been scrounging wheel weights with the help of a buddy. My dad donated his OLD (over 30 years) Lee pot, and another came by way of a friend in FL. I'm using Liquid Alox tumble lube. The thing I am trying to figure out now is what to do with all of the pure lead I have. I have been researching the antimony and tin side of the equation, and for the cost of those items it seems like I am losing alot of the financial advantage of using free lead. We've had to pay for the wheel weights we've been getting but so far they seem to cast and run well in our firearms. Any advice on this? I have over 200 lbs of lead I need to get into ingots and mix up. Oh, and I can't find a Lee hardness tester in stock anywhere to boot. We have just been letting the boolits air cool, and havent tried quenching. Any tips on getting the right hardness? So far no signs of leading, but I plan on doing the chore boy trick, or getting a Lewis Remover if that becomes an issue. Is leading really that much of an issue for any of you? I have read recently that some people were casting pure lead and running the rounds at slower velocities??? Could water quenching nearly pure lead get them hard enough?
  6. Good story from a good dad.  I have many similar stories from times with my now 11 year old son.  Can't trade those excited eyes for anything!
  7. Welcome, fellow transplant here as well.
  8. Welcome, I am sure you will find the input you need here!  I'm a Sig fan myself :)
  9. We did but just cooking herbs, and some others to see if the seeds are still viable.
  10. Right ?!?!?! I was lucky enough to buy a couple 1000 last time I ordered this stuff.  The limit almost made me not buy any at all.  So far I like it, shoots clean, pretty accurate, and the subsonic version works real well.
  11. Agreed....I got some but I also picked up some other items in my wish list so I didnt feel as bad about it.
  12. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2506190579/aguila-high-velocity-ammunition-22-long-rifle-38-grain-plated-lead-hollow-point   Still in stock at this moment. I didnt get an alert email, but a buddy gave me the heads up.  Limit 1 per customer and shipping is a lil steep but if you need it......
  13. Great choice, I have one in 22lr and took the cheese grater off too, but I kept it.  Replaced it with a 20 MOA EGW so I can reach out a little farther with my clicks.  I would love one in 17 but lately I've focused on things I can repload for.
  14. Sweet, my dad has one sans box and weights that I cant seem to convince him to sell me.
  15. I pickup up a 91 CZ75 some time ago and love it, but it only came with one mag.  Today surfing I found that CZ USA has them back in stock!  I love the trigger on this old service gun and it will be alot more fun with extra mags.  Now I can finally commit to a refinish of some sort on it.  Any recommendations on do it yourself finishes out there?  Id like to blue it but I am not sure if the alloy will take bluing or not. What other surfaces look good and are durable?
  16. Very nice! You have good taste my friend
  17. Thanks, this one took me almost 15 years to "justify".  I mean let's face it, there's not a whole lot of use for a 22LR bench rifle, but now I know what my limits are too.  And I feel like its a pretty good practice rifle.  Now if decent 22LR would only find its way back onto the shelves I would be all set.
  18. ^^^^^   What he said.  I have a Savage TRR SR that I took the rail off and replaced with a 20MOA rail.  I love it!  It's my goto bolt in 22LR now.
  19. 1 7/8 lbs...just measured it with my Timney Gauge
  20. Ive wondered this too, especially when I see you know who tube vids of things like GSG 22's in full auto.  Seems like they are fairly new to me.  And at the rate I have to clean my semi auto GSG, I dont think FA would be reliable or much fun with it anyway.
  21.     I cant guide ya there, I got the whole drop in adjustable trigger for this one.  The other gun has a VQ trigger parts kit, and I am very happy with it for the 40 bucks it cost.
  22. Above are the first shots from it without a rest or anything. I am very impressed with it so far, and after breaking the barrel in I expect impressive results. Oh and my sunshade came in too.
  23. The one running in my "black" 10/22 seems smoother than the one in my target version with the Kidd trigger.  The bolt in the black gun was polished and what not by yours truly, and Im not sure it that is making the difference or the fact that the Kidd trigger hits the bolt and cocks a little differently than the stock VQ modified trigger group in hte black gun.
