"Taken" is outstanding. The best scene is when Liam Neeson convinces his French counterpart that he really means business (at the Frenchman's home). My wife almost went into shock. I had to explain to her that with time running out he had to make the Frenchman understand what lengths he was willing to go to for his daughter.

I agree with you 100% but it is not politically correct to say so on a gun forum. Conservatives are :Republican Christian America loving patriots. Liberals are: Socialist Satan worshipping Democrats who are in league with the Communists. And we will get some replies that will prove this! Me, I am just a veteran who would like to see his neighbor get his job back and see everybody in his home town get a square deal. I intend to try to find some individuals that are willing to go to Washington and do this. I don't really care what party they belong to.

I am a free American citizen and I have the right to decide how I am going to vote. I will vote for individuals, not political parties. I will exercise my right as a free citizen to vote for the individual candidate who demonstrates to me that he or she enacts and enforces those laws that best serve me, my family and my community. I will obey the elected officials in office, they are the peoples' choice, but they must show me by their actions that they are sincere or I vote for somebody else next election! I will not vote for a candidate that casts aspersions on my religious values, family values, and patriotism or demands a party allegiance. This is my individual manifesto. If more citizens came to some sort of philosophy to act as individuals and not party puppets and stopped voting blindly along party lines, following all of the So-called "Liberal" or "Conservative" party propaganda, the politicians would start listening to us as INDIVIDUALS. They would start running as responsible individuals instead of party hacks. They compete for only 20% of the vote because 80% of the American voters are following party lines. The nonsense has to end. If you want to work for me, show me what you are going to do for me.

Newsflash from Wallyworld: Ammo prices raised

As far as reloading goes, I haven't seen primers (quality primers) available on line or at suppliers in months. Can't reload without primers, so what is the big advantage? -
Heads up on Walmart Federal .22 Target Match Ammo
wjh2657 replied to wjh2657's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Only the 1BW4XX lots have been found to be defective. No other lots have beeen reported bad. I myself went back and bought some more AutoMatch (different lot) and they worked fine. The post wasn't slamming all of the Federal AutoMatch ammo, just the bad lots. They are a couple of years old now and should have dissappeared from most stores. I just happen to get some at my local Walmart. -
Heads up on Walmart Federal .22 Target Match Ammo
wjh2657 replied to wjh2657's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Read post above. I was one among many. To set the record straight, this is the first bad ammo I have ever gotten from Federal and Federal is my primary in .22 LR. That still doesn't change the fact that Federal themselves are saying that the lots of 1BW4XX were bad. It doesn't make much sense to send ammo you know is bad back out to your market. Maybe somebody between Walmart and Federal? I honestly don't know. Just saying to check lot numbers on that particular packaging (325) for awhile. -
Heads up on Walmart Federal .22 Target Match Ammo
wjh2657 replied to wjh2657's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
The lot I have is 1BW424 but from what I understand the entire issue of 1BW4XX lots are bad. Mostly way underpowered. Phfffts instead of bangs! Check link below: Federal Auto Match .22LR - RimfireCentral.com Forums Everybody thought the problem had gone away but more boxes are suddenly appearing on the Walmart shelves. . I can still use them (the 325s) in my S&W 317 (2" barrel) but it is still sort of disconcerting (bang, bang, phffffft, bang, bang, phfffft.) I am not even going to fire them in any rifle barrels. Banging squibbs out of barrels is not my idea of fun. It was an honest mistake and Federal did recall the ammo, but it has suddenly reappeared. -

Watch out for bad .22 ammo at Walmart. I bought two boxes of the 325 rd Federal Auto Match a couple of weeks ago. 1 out of 4 (25%) were misfires! I checked the lot numbers and they are part of a bad batch that Federal put out several years ago. So this is known bad ammo. The 550 round packs seem to be of newer maufacture and I've had no problems with these. I suspect some of the 325 stuff got put up in the warehouses and not sent back to Federal. With the shortages now, I further suspect Walmart put the stuff back on the shelves. It is several years old so I find it hard to believe Federal sent it out at this time. I buy only the 550 boxes now. -
I use Breakfree exclusively on shotguns, rifles and handguns. I have never had a "gum up" problem. I was introduced to CLP in the Corps and I am quite happy with it.

When I picked up the Mossberg 500 below it was in bad shape. Stock was all worn and cracked with many dents and nicks. Barrel was a rusty fixed choke 28". All of the steel parts had rust, including springs. I already had a Maverick 88 HD shotgun, but I just couldn't stand to see an old vet treated this way. Completely dissassembled gun. Cleaned all steel parts with steel wool and CLP. Replaced springs. Touched up receiver with auto touch up paint. New Mossy 18 1/2" barrel. Hogue Overmold stock and fore-end. Limb Saver recoil pad. Meprolight Tijicon bead. Feels like a 20 Gauge when fired with Winchester 2 3/4" #1 buck!

The person who tailgates me at 55 mph while they are talking on their cellphone. If I have to brake they are going to rear end me before they even know my brake lights came on. I personally allow 3 seconds on the "2 second rule" on the highway. If you want go to faster than me, PASS, and do it.

Is pointing a gun always considered using deadly force?
wjh2657 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I agree. There are some smaller communities in Tennessee that use elected constables who have no LEO training whatsoever. Many smaller departments actually depend on citizen complaints to activate proceedings, but most have some sort of instrument (County officials, mayor's council, etc) to investigate when complaints are lodged. I live in a small county seat town but I know for a fact that the PD and SD both hold their officers to a high standard and there is a city and a county board in place to investigate any discrepencies. If an officer points his gun at you in this town and you feel it was unjustified, he will be off the street fast and had better have his ducks together if he wants to keep his job. Every policeman and deputy I have met here has been friendly and thoroughly professional by the way! Main point is, there is usually procedures other than just statute law that govern the use of the gun. If this is not so in your community, citizens need to get involved and make it so. A good LEO doesn't mind SOP, it takes pressure off him to guess at what his actions need be. -
I don't want to cast aspersion on Remington 870. I've handled several and they are really fine weapons.I try to keep to one basic platform for each type of weapon, hence Mossberg for shotguns/S&W Revolvers for Carry guns (w/ G23 exception.) I do this because 30 years in USMC (part as an armorer) has made me obssessive-compulsive about cleaning, inspection (LTI) and maintenance. I buy the books, special tools and the AGI dvds for each gun and maintain them fastidiously. Sticking to the same platform means I need only learn one set of schematics and dissassembly/assembly procedures for each type. I also have to stock only one set of spare internal parts (springs, etc) for each type. If I had started with Remington, I would have all Remington shotguns, but I started with Mossberg!

Contrary to the CSI and Law and Order TV shows, LEOs do not go around drawing and pointing their guns at everybody they are about to arrest. There is good reason for this. Most departments require a patrol officer to file a report anytime he draws his service weapon and/or racks the slide on a SG. These reports are usually pretty closely scrutinized by his /her superiors. The officer may not be indicted as would a civilian but he faces a Department Review Board ( which most likely include people from outside the department) which can be as bad or worse than a trial, because department policy carries the same weight as law in these proceedings. he may not have broken any laws, but he may very well have busted procedure. If there was not justification he faces a whole continuum of possible consequences from fines and suspension from duty without pay to outright dismissal. At best a report would go in his file that could be detrimental to any further career advancements. It is not something that police departments take lightly, mainly because of the safety factors involved. The law is written to give the LEO the option to draw and point his weapon, but he still faces dire consequences if he is wrong by SOP. I had only served as a reserve LEO and for a relatively short time, but I have seen officers severely reprimanded for pointing a weapon when it was not deemed necessary by a board. Just because a law says he can do it, doesn't mean he can do it all the time. "Cowboying" by an LEO usually means a very short career. Everything they do is monitored! When Special Teams (SWAT,etc) go in they usually have already been authorized deadly force, so weapon is at the ready. -
Maverick 88 on duty in Hofman household. Only mods are a LimbSaver recoil pad and a HighViz bead. 3 Mossberg 500/ 1 835 in gun safe for hunting. Mav has double bars and is just as sturdy as the 500s.

It's legal now, if you have a HCP. Some people are putting them in trunk racks. I have an old "beater" Mossberg 500A that I have been fixing up as a HD gun. I just went ahead and bought the 18.5" barrel from Mossberg, so it is now officially "Factory Stock." The barrel is marked as 18.5" so there is no hassle about it being "Modified".

For those of us with S&W Revolvers, especially older guns, I have found a must-have tool. Many of the older revolvers (I have a pre-10 M&P) you will find that you need to tighten the extractor rod more often and will need to keep the cylinder face really clean. This is due to the closer tolerances the older guns were made to, causing a really close cylinder to barrel gap. I have a nickel plated M&P from 1951 and the plating has taken the gap down to almost non-existent. I found that using a vise and padded pliers to unscrew the extractor rod caused a lot of binding and twisting of the rod, no matter how careful I tried to be. Brownells makes a S&W Extractor Rod Tool that allows screwing the rod in and out much easier and less trying. It is worth the money to stop the possibility of damaging the rod. I have one for my J-Frames and for my K/L frames (the sizes are different) and wouldn’t be without them now. See link below. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26886/Product/EXTRACTOR_ROD_TOOL

I carry a 642 with standard pressure in pocket in summer and a 640 with +ps in belt holster in winter. As you can see I use different grips, but both have backstrap covered. 642 wears Uncle Mike "Combats" which are standard S&W "issue" and offer good concealment in pocket. 640 wears Pachmayr COMPACs which absorb the additional recoil of the +Ps.

Pray he leaves bullet casings in yard or that you have a witness and that you don't hit him in the back! Depending on community/state, prosecutor might still go for "fleeing the scene" or "no longer a threat" arguments for a manslaughter conviction. Argument would be that you could have stayed in house and taken cover. In Texas they would probably give you a medal but in Massachusetts they may lock you up. Even though the law in Tennessee gives me some leeway in my own yard, I have long ago decided to limit my gunfire to inside house. I have a pretty solid brick home and I would seek cover before engaging in fire outside the structure. (Encountering fire out in the yard initially is a whole different ball park. With nowhere to hide, there is no choice but to engage until conclusion of firefight.) -
Hgh Velocity .22 LR has been around for awhile there guy. I shot oodles of it through my Marlin 39 back in the 50's.

I am not as far in disagreement with you as you might think. I spent a lot of time in RVN, but I learned early that we were not in a war, we were taking sides in a revolution. We are doing it again. In WWII we declared war on the nations of Japan and Germany. That is war against all of their people, not just their military. You can kill civilians, if they get in the way, they are part of the "enemy force." We can fight a total war and win. We have done it several times! In RVN, Iraq and Afghanistan, we did not declare war on a country. we declared war on their military (Hussein in Iraq) or their Insurgents (Later Iraq, RVN and Afghanistan). The countries and their populations were not to be considered combatants. We are trying to fight their revolutions for them. Noble thought but not practical. As in any revolution, nobody, not even the home boys, can tell who is the good guys and who are the bad guys. And folks change sides at every chance. In the end, invarably, the outside "help" (us) ends up being the "invaders" and the bad guys. We are equating the terrorists we are after with all of the insurgent elements we are fighting. That just isn't true, some of them are just insurgents. If they ally with our bad guys we can't be sure if it was before or after we started shooting at them. When this started we were after a small bunch of Al Quaida and we haven't caught up with all of them yet. Meanwhile we are neck deep in civil wars all over the Middle East. If the argument is that they are all militant Muslims and are together, then declare war on all of the Muslim countries and go after the whole lot. If that is too much to take then we haven't distilled our concept of who the "enemy" really is yet and shouldn't be fighting. Either the whole country is our enemy or it is an internal problem for them. Anything less than fighting all is not war, it is political games and a real waste of some fine military manpower. Let them fight it out. If our side loses, smash the h*** out of the one left standing, but don't get between them.

Help put some glass atop my 10/22
wjh2657 replied to Capbyrd's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have a Bushnell Trophy Red Dot on my "Tacticool" 10/22 and it seems just the right size for the carbine. Grandkids love it! -
I wear bifocals and shoot snubbies. I went to my eye doctor and explained the problem (Do I see sights or target? Can I do both?) Answer was , nope! If I raise lower lens (close) high enough that I can see sights (or even gun clearly) without craning my neck then I will go absolutely bananas when driving a car! I can do it if I use the modified glasses just for shooting. I will need my regular glasses for walking and driving. So now. if and when I get into a Self Defense situation, I have to change glasses before drawing my gun? NOT! I have started using a very fuzzy sight picture for practice and keeping the neck straight and distance vision scan going for situational scans and awareness. Target shooting, where you don't have to walk or run any great distance or drive a car as part of the scenario, you could probably do with the 50/50 split bifocal.

"Are you saying that it's a "good-guy/bad-guy thing? Do not agreements bind both parties? Then you have the ones who didn't sign, but *we* still have to obey the rules when there's no contract to begin with?" Exact point. The Nuremburg Trials and rulings were not part of a treaty, they were unilateral decisions by our side as to how everybody was to behave or stand trial as war criminals. If the other side loses, we execute them for violating the rules. I didn't make anything either, but for 30 years as a Marine (you state that you also served as a Marine) "my fellow Marines" and that was the rules we were told to live by.Civilians got into the line of fire in RVN, but we didn't actively seek them out as targets, as you suggest in your original post. I wasn't aware that the Corps had gone over to randomly killing civilians, maybe some currently serving Marines can enlighten the old Master Gunny on this.
