One gun that can do it all? Get this post off the board! Our wives might see it and no more Christmas presents (shotguns.)

I am an old geezer and we wear fat pants all the time anyways.

I have been in and out of a lot of gunshops lately and I haven't seen any 18.5" barreled shotguns except 12 gauges and they were all Mavericks. People aren't selling HD weapons right now so they are pretty scarce. I think your best bet is to buy a used 20 gauge field gun with choke tubes and then purchase the 18.5" barrel. It gives you a nice combination for HD and hunting. I have five 12 gauges but I usually hunt small game with my 20 gauge. It is a good field gun unless you are after big game. I have even hunted turkeys with an aftermarket extended choke. Set up the combo, you'll have enough shotgun for the rest of your life!

When I first started I was 11 years old and the H&R 922 had all nine chambers in the cylinder loaded with .22LR hollowpoints. (I was running a trap line for muskrats and the revolver was to dispatch nasty critters that got caught in the traps.) 922 did not have a transfer bar and had a hammer mounted firing pin. Properly carried in a holster with a strap over hammer, I never felt unsafe with it.

BERSA Thunder Duotone .380. It looked sexy and fit my hand perfect. It was super accurate at SD range. It also jammed with every magazine I used in it. Many trials with different ammo, different factory mags and two trips to gunsmith later it still jammed with every magazine! The only use for the gun was EDC and it wasn't reliable enough to carry. Sold it to somebody else and used money as down payment on my S&W 637. It was my last attempt at making a .380 work (I've owned 8 of them) I have concluded that in little guns, revolvers rule!

Model 19 S&W 4 inch barrel, it was my back up gun from 1963-1966 in SEA. I sold it to an Embassy Attache' when I left in 1966. I carried .38 Specials in it and it was most accurate handgun I ever owned.

So I go to the La Vergne PD...

Yeah, do it! That will free up some ammo for the rest of us because you won't need it for a while. -
TN Performing Arts Center, Nashville CC ...

Area around TPAC is not the best. Lots of dark areas and not as well policed as it might be. It is the main reason I am not a bigger "Patron of the Arts" ( I like plays and concerts but I have not been comfortable in that area at night. Biggest risk seems to be getting to and from the parking areas. Just like I used to be a Sox fan in Chicago but the stadium was a risky adventure.) -
Any weapon that is in actual use and current manufacture would be a bad bet for appreciation, value will stay about the same. Classics like Colt SAA, Lugers, Browning .380s, etc. will continue to grow in value. 1911s takes in over several million pistols all of different value. Historically the Colt manufactured and WWII issues will continue to grow in value but the knockoffs (probably much better weapons) will suffer from appreciation in value simply because they are "copies." Nobody will give you the same money for a Ruger Vacquero that he would for a real Colt SAA, but the Vacquero is undoubtedly the better gun if you need to carry and fire it in the field. It is the history, not the quality, that counts years later. Look into discontinued lines that were around for a long time ( S&W K Frames, all Colt revolvers, etc.) Some of those will be desirable purchases for a long time. Also, Obama will not be president forever and ten years from now when you need the money, there may be more than enough 1911 clones, S&W J Frames and Glocks around at less than you paid for your "investments." The market is fickle as are politics! Most popular (now): Glocks overall and Glocks and J Frames for guns EDCd.

Apples and oranges guys! Don't try to compare smoking bans with firearm bans. Second hand smoke is more dangerous than direct smoking. The smoker cannot protect you from his second hand smoke, especially in an enclosed area. The comparison you are making would be equivalent to arguing the right to fire at random in a restaurant! Hey, TS if somebody gets hit! A weapon properly holstered is not the threat to health that a lit cigarette is. Bad analogy. Stick to 2dA when arguing gun rights.

I haven't seen .22 of any kind (CB, CCI,Winchester or Federal) in Walmarts period. I understand that our fellow NRA members have bought up all of the ammo to protect us from Obama and his marauding federal troops coming to get us. (I didn't really intend to hold them off with my 10/22 anyways. However, the squirrels are getting pretty feisty around my neighborhood!) I'm thinking of getting up a trip to smuggle some .22 shorts back from Israel. Beam me up Scotty, there's no intelligent life on this planet!

In 1970-1971 I found myself attached to 5th ARVN. My host S-2 issued me a AK-47 with folding stock. I never regretted it for the next 18 months. It may not have been pretty or super accurate but it sure was reliable! I couldn't say the same for the M-16s my buddies were carrying. Design (as issued to military) has had flaws from the beginning. I have been told that other, civilian, models have ironed out the problems but I wasn't overjoyed with the issue arm. Highly machined intricate arms have never proven themselves well in combat. A certain amount of "slop" has always been needed in field weapons.

And if Miss Jenny is holding a picnic with her third grade in the park, you may be in violation whether the park is posted or not, according to several other AG rulings. If a school is using the park for any school related reason, the park is out of bounds for carry without the need for posting. And they can't clearly define the boundary limits of the park involved. Once a school starts using the park you enter a very risky gray area.

At home, on my property and when walking with momma on the country road. CC at all other times.

Open Carry as a Civic Responsibility?
wjh2657 replied to TNTitan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
"I think it’s safe to say that the "tactical advantage" of concealed carry has been argued ad nauseum and I think it is a very valid point when personal protection is your primary (and only) concern." Under Tennessee Law it is your only concern and the only reason you are allowed to carry. Most non-gun types are afraid of openly carried guns that aren't attached to a uniform. There are better ways of getting the message across than scaring the bejoosis out of little old ladies. I open carry at home and when I take my walk with my wife at night, but I CC all other times. My gun is there to protect me and momma, not to make political statements. -
So you're at the bank and a gunman bursts in...
wjh2657 replied to TNTitan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
From Bank teller: Bank policy is to let them take the money and run. Money is insured, depositors lose nothing. Bank would rather lose money than have somebody hurt or killed. From SD: Department policy is to let them get outside, away from customers and then take them. If they are outside they are no longer threat, so from our (civilian) viewpoint, no longer a legal target. Dillenger days are gone. Most bank robberies are quiet affairs by single perp and no shots are fired. Usually customers don't know anything until alarm goes off. My philosophy: Stay cool and let it go down. If perp doesn't actually threaten you, leave him be. Other people get paid to take care of this and they know better what to do. "This ain't Dodge City and you ain't Bill Hickock!" -
Marlin 60 (.22LR) S&W 640 (.38Spl and .357 mag) Ruger MK II (.22 LR) Mossberg 500A (12 Gauge) Any good bolt action rifle in either 30-06 or .308

I own three .357 magnum revolvers, 4 .38 Special revolvers and 1 .40 S&W Semi Auto. Yup it's a Glock (G23). Had my own experiences and the Glock is the only bottom feeder I own and probably will ever own. I have been a third party in 3 NDs in my lifetime and all three were 1911s on the pistol range. Any weapon with a round chambered (including revolver) is intrinsically unsafe but they all come with two surefire safeties, your brain and the first finger from the thumb on your shooting hand. If those two do what they are supposed to, no modern handgun is going to fire on it's own.

Same thing happens with Gun Control. Current "wisdom" is that Republicans are pro-gun and Democrats are anti-gun,period! Both parties tend have representatives who are pro gun if they come from the Southwest or deep South. Both parties tend to have representatives who are anti-gun if they are from large population centers in the Midwest or East. Here in Tennessee it follows the lines of West Tennessee (Memphis) tends to have anti gun politicians and Middle and Eastern Tennessee (Nashville and east) tend to have pro-gun reps, regardless of party affiliation. You need to check the voting records and public statements of the Individual and not trust that his/her party affiliation will determine how they go on gun issues.

I think the term "obey" has been misunderstood. I obey the laws that the legislature and executive enact. As a military man , I followed the Commander in chief's orders , whatever party he was affiliated with. I don't subscribe to the current "conservative-right wing" notion that I get to pick which laws I will follow and I get to personally pick whom I think represents the current government. That is done by the majority as per election. Once they are elected they are the government, at least until the next election. If you can't live with the representative republic form of government we have then you are in the wrong place at the wrong time because that is the form of government we have. Many people have decided by party affiliation to take from me the very liberties they scream they want back. The political parties do not listen to the everyday person, the professionals within the party lay down the agenda. For common people to run around and say they are party members so that they can change things is ludicrous. The power of the populous is to keep their votes close to themselves and make the parties "buy" those votes by giving us decent laws to live by. We can't change the parties but we can make them perform to our needs by use of the vote.

The more I look at this thing, the more it looks like a "bolt action rifle" safety button. The old Savages had something similar. Any guys out there with old rifles?

I was getting ready to order a metal safety button kit for my Mossberg 500 HD when I suddenly noticed for the very first time that I already had a metal button. Now my question is: is this stock or add on? Does anybody out there have an older Mossberg 500 with the metal button from the factory? And if so, does anybody know when they switched to plastic? See button below. It isn’t current add on safety as sold on the internet. Front of the button is smooth and all the add ons have serrated fronts.

"Against the Wind" by Bob Segar, especially the rendition by Willie Nelson on the "Highwaymen" CD. The refrain "I Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" can tear me up. Makes me remember all the things I wished I had done and all the things I wished I hadn't done.
