  1. Grandkids' "Army Gun" when they come to visit grandpa. I have set up an outdoor range with reactive targets, "Poppers", and they have a ball shooting their way through the course ( I walk it through with them.) Rifle is SS Walmart "special". TAPCO stock, foregrip and sling. Light is a Glock light that I thought was rather large to be used on the G26 it came on. The sight is a Bushnell Trophy Red Dot. Only mods to rifle was a nylon buffer pin. I use standard 10 shot Ruger stock mags, had no luck with any, including steel lipped, after market high cap mags. Kids get frustrated with jams and I haven't had any with stock rotary mags. Stoke it with Wally World Federal 550 ammo and have had no problems to date. Little guys love it!
  2. I was watching the “Ultimate Heist†with Jean Reno video yesterday. There is a scene where the French Metropolitan police detectives are receiving a “situational awareness†class. Right on the white board were the four “ Alert conditions by color†with a reference giving credit to LTC Cooper! Evidently they have adopted “Ol Jeff’s†philosophy completely.
  3. I EDC a S&W 642 in front pocket with slacks and jeans. Around the house, I like baggy shorts and oversized T-Shirts. For the "Laid-Back" times I carry a S&W 637 in an Uncle Mikes holster in the right back pocket. As the photos show, it nestles in there real nice. The oversized T-Shirt worn outside completely hides the gun. The 637 is a neat "pocket rocket" for when even Centennial or Bodyguard is just too long.
  4. When SHTF you can concentrate on one thing and one thing only. You concentrate on counting shots, I'll concentrate on getting five into COM as fast as I can. If you can take time to count you weren't in enough danger to fire. The drill with a snubby revolver is to fire and fire fast, the click is your signal that you need to reload.
  5. I have been firing and carrying handguns for over five decades now. Big and little. I personally won't carry a revolver with wood grips. I have dropped several revolvers and two automatics (grips weren't checkered or stippled) because of the slick grips. Sweaty or wet hands need something sticky to grab on. Wood is pretty but I just don't feel safe with it. Yeah, I know there is going to be an 18 year old come on here and tell me I just don't have enough training and experience. Read first sentence again. I carry a 637 or a 642 (pocket) as shown below. I carry a 640 (OWB) in the winter. I normally carry .38 Spcl Standard Pressure in the Airweights and .38 Spcl +P in the 640. Even with the +P rounds the 640 has quite a snap. I use the grips (standard S&W) shown below after many years ,and many drawers full of, different grip tryouts. The reason for two guns is the concealibility factor. The Centennials are for deep pockets and/or belt holster wear. The Chief's special is for short pockets and light clothing. The longer grips came standard on my Model 60 and 640. I just switched them to my 642.
  6. "Vanilla Sky" No plot. No Continuity. No acting. If you want to experience an LSD bad trip without actually taking the stuff, watch this movie!
  7. Nothing new here guys, this one has gone around in the courts for a long time. I haven’t been able to find the original ruling but it involved a citizen and the City of New York back in the 50s. Those below pretty well spell it out. The last two have to do with the police knowing beforehand that the attack probably will take place. They owe nothing to the to-be victim, not even a warning, much less protection. The only people that the police are legally bound to protect are people incarcerated or in police custody. The strangest part of most of these court cases is that they take place in communities where guns are not allowed and state that it is the citizen’s responsibility to protect themselves, so long as they are not `using a weapon to do it! Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. 1981). "...a government and its agencies are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any particular individual citizen..." -Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. App. 1981) DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services, 489 U.S. 189 (1989). Balistreri v. Pacifica Police Department. (901 F.2d 696 9th Cir. 1990)
  8. Mostly. Some base commanders allowed them in housing and some didn't. Now they all have to allow them in housing, as long as they are secured. Looks like the Navy saw the new SCOTUS decision coming and reacted. The Marine bases I served on allowed personal weapons in housing (secured) and transortation to and from range (cased) but some of the Navy bases I served on didn't allow personal weapons period.
  9. Posted in MILITARY.com New Navy Rules for Personal Firearms Week of June 28, 2010 "The Navy has announced a policy change regarding personal firearms. One highlight of the new policy is the ability for all Sailors to store their personal firearms in base housing or armories (when space is available), as long as they receive prior written approval from the installation commanding officer. Weapons must be stored in a locked container, a locked gun rack, or secured with approved trigger locks to keep the weapon from firing. Weapons are still prohibited in other on-base locations. The policy also clarifies that Sailors must comply with all federal, state, and local laws, and that concealed weapons are never allowed on Navy installations, regardless of local law. The NAVADMIN detailing the new policy is available here."
  10. I own five J-Frames (642,637,317,60,640) and a Taurus ULBH M85. I think you will find the Taurus just a bit larger in size than the S&W and a little bit harder to hide in pocket. Although I usually carry the 642, the 637 actually is smaller and easier to hide.
  11. Here we go again: You claim to be in favor of defending individual liberty yet you advocate government control of a woman's liberty. Abortion is a moral and religious issue and should not be not a political one. The truth is that it needs to be taken out of the religious/moral arena and some serious scientific and medical debate taken place. Are you you in favor of individual liberty so long as it fits your own religion or moral code? That isn't pro-liberty . I am not pro-choice or pro-life, I just don't know enough about the issue outside of what I hear in church to able to make an intelligent stand. Churches don't dictate nor are they in any position to interpret the Constitution, they can't even agree among themselves as to what is right or wrong. There too many people out there using religious and moral arguments against my carrying a gun. CCW is a legal issue not a moral issue. And I believe that the legality is the Second Amendment. I also believe all other rights need to be protected!
  12. I have to travel to St. Louis several times a year to visit grandkids. My prepaid legal Service gave me some advice that I think is sound. I download the little pamphlets (usually in .pdf ) on handgun laws for the states I travel through, published by the State Police on the internet. I laminate them and carry them in the map pocket of my passenger seat. As I have to travel through Illinois to get there, I am extra self concious about transporting my gun throught that state. If stopped I am prepared to show that I have made every attempt to comply with local laws. As I stick to the interstate coming and going, I will most likely encounter State Police. I have found most "troopers" to be open to dsicussion about legality. Local cops may be a whole different ball of wax (I don't really know for sure.) I was stopped for a license and "booze breath" check on one occasion, a holiday, and the Illinois Trooper saw my HCP and asked. I showed him the pamphlet and offered to open the truck to show how the weapon was secured. He just smiled and waived me on. I do know that local LEO are not always aware of reciprocity rules and having the pamphlet with you, put out by their own State Police, might just avoid some nasty business.
  13. Help! I need some advice from legal Beagle types, not armchair Generals. As I read the T.C.A., it states immunity from civil suit only if the shooting is found excusable or justifiable by a court of law. If so , am I reading it correctly to say that immunity is not in place if charges are not preferred and case does not go to criminal court?
  14. Wrong guy to ask "which one?" Grandpa's Armory for when the grandkids come up.
  15. I am more picky about my .22s than I am my other guns. A .22, pistol or rifle is a weapon you will usually hold onto long after you have traded your other guns around. One of my grandsons has my Marlin 15 Single Shot that was my first "real" gun. I am sure that my Henry, Ruger 10/22 and Marlin 60s (notice plural!) will be in the hands of my great-grandkids someday. That said, I have a Ruger MKI and a MKII. They will be the last pistols I will let go of. They too will find yeoman service with descendents long after I am gone. BTW, the .22s , my H&R .410s and my Mossberg .410 are the only guns the kids/grandkids have ever asked about as to future ownership! These are family guns! Point to be made: Buy the best .22s you can afford and buy sturdy. They are lifelong and after investments.
  16. 1. There is no treaty. 2. There is a thought that maybe there should be a treaty. 3. Sitting down, negotiating and drafting the "treaty" have not even started. 4. Russia, China and Israel are rabidly opposed to even thinking about such a treaty. The big 3 do swing some awesome weight in the UN. 2/3 of the Senate issue is not even a point, there is no treaty, and it is not very likely that there will be. Too much Arms Dealer money is floating around at the International level opposing the issue.
  17. I think the HCP should be taped to the middle of your forehead, a CCW badge on your chest and OC a really big gun. That way when you climb out of your ton and a half “dualie†Dodge Ram with the diesel V-8 and 4 wheel drive that you only drive between your driveway and Walmart, nobody will ever guess you were shorted in the manhood department. I don’t have my revolver and my “gun†confused. I don’t show my HCP unless I have to. I use DL and Marine Corps Retired ID card for ID.
  18. I believe in alarm system and HD gun (mine is Mossberg 500A 12 Gauge in bed rail rack). Hard to shoot in SD if you are still asleep when BG gets to you. Alarm also takes care of alerting authorities while you concentrate on use of gun. I also have a large dog that barks at strangers. The answer is a thorough and integrated system, not one part vs another!
  19. Ruger Bearcat in Stainless Steel. Mine is the grandkids' favorite pistol and my "walk through the woods" gun. I stoke mine with CCI Stingers when out walking. I also think it is one of the most elegant guns around.
  20. My deer rifle is a Mossberg 100 ATR in 30-06 with a Leupold 3-9X scope. I have never failed to get my deer and yes, it groups around 2" at 100 yards. The kill zone of a whitetail deer is usually considered to be a 12" + circle. Makes a 2" group sound pretty adequate doesn't it? Most shots here in the southeast are around 50-100yards so that is more than enough acccuracy. If you are target shooting , than you need MOA, but you don't need it for most hunting. BTW, if you are target shooting with .308, you need a more expensive rifle and an even more expensive scope. But if you are just hunting, what you have is fine.
  21. I am arch-conservative on the issue of the flag. I believe in the flag as the presence of our country. As such, I don't believe it should be used as a "symbol" or "replica" anywhere. The flag belongs on a flagstaff, on a coffin, as insignia on a uniform or at a gravesite. It doesn't belong on clothing, on advertising or flown at commercial sites (other than a single flag flown from a proper flagstaff). If we are using reverence for the flag as a political statement we are demeaning it. Reverence means it is revered and not used. (Reverence means we treat it as a presence not as a convenient message). I don't put flag stickers on my bumpers to get dirty and I don't go around with a flag on my car antenna flapping around and getting frayed. I do fly the flag from a proper flag staff at my home. If you want it to serve as your message for then you have to acknowledge others may use for others' messages, including some you may not like. I don't even like the flag being flown over churches who then claim tax exemption because they are not to be taxed by the state that the flag represents. If churches are to claim to be separate from the state, then fly the Christian flag. The flag is unique in the U.S. It is not a symbol of the U.S., it is the presence of the U.S.and should not be used for anything else. I do respect and honor my flag, because to me it is the embodiment of my country. I have no issues with people wearing other flags from other countries, because they are not the presence of that country , but rather just a symbol of that country. We have many other symbols that can be used to show loyalty and should be used. The issues in California are not the flag but divided loyalties and how they are perceived. If it had been Columbus day I doubt the administrators would have been worried about the Italian-American students being upset. The students wearing the flag Ts should not have been punished for wearing a blatantly accepted commercial product. They wore what they bought, legally. They have the right to express themselves as long as they don't start disorder by their own actions other than the T-shirts. MGySgt USMC (ret) RVN 1963-1966,1967-68, 1970-1971
  22. Felons, other than Murderers awaiting execution or "Life Without Chance of Parole" do not do their time. They are out doing less than 20% of their time. Every BG out their knows that a 20 year sentence means doing 3 years. So, fulfilling their debt to society just doesn't wash. On the other hand, I do believe that many felonies should be Class A Misdemeanors. This would allow some jail time to reflect on their errors but not so long as let them lose their place in society. The offense would not carry over for the rest of their life either.

  24. Nobody read close enough to notice that I never said the Republicans are National Socalists, I said they were getting dangerously close to being NS. I am not and never will be a Democrat but after more than 40 years as a Republican voter I no longer can stomach the real actions of the National Republican Party. I also have very little faith that those in the party that hold the power are going to change just because a few working class stiffs and merchants raise a ruckus. They are beyond caring about us. I believe I am like a lot of Conservatives, I have no political party to trust or even believe.
  25. I didn't say you or anybody else in particular did. My remark was just sarcasm about the trend these forums are going to that all laws are evil and people should be able to do what they want. A convicted felon is just that, a law breaker, I for one am not going to stand up for them nor am I about to say they should be allowed to carry guns.
