I know. That was the point. He btw is simply following the "church" line. The Fundamentalist churches are becoming more and more political and far right. Both candidates listed are "Dominionists" and believe that the country should be run by Old Testament laws. The dreaded Muslim Sharia Law is nothing but a copy of the very severe Leviticus and Deuteronomy laws ( which even modern Judaism has abandoned for more reasonable laws.) Many of the young pastors see an opening for power in this trend and believe the church should "share" in this power gain. They are so far away from the true Christianity ("be in this world but not of it." ) that it is scary. I am currently looking for some other expression of Christianity than the established church. It all part of the swing to Party politics instead of National politics. I guess I am now an Independent Voter and a Non-Denominational Christian!

My pastor explained it all in a sermon last Sunday. All of this fighting in the Middle East is to bring the heathen Muslims to Jesus. That is why GOD wants us to vote for Bachman or Perry , good Christians, because they will send our armies over there to convert the heathens. He said it is a great Crusade. As soon as he said Crusade the hair on the back of my neck went up and I got a dull ache in my stomach. I have a very sick feeling that a lot of young American boys are going to die and it is not going to be for the defense of this country.

Another for the Ruger Mark I,II or III. Handguns are hard to master and you need to practice regularly to stay proficient. Starting out, you need to master the basics with a .22 first. I own a bunch of handguns including Glocks and S&W revolvers and I carry with a HCP on a daily basis. I shoot daily. I can do that because I do my daily shooting with a .22 and once a week with my S&W and Glock. I use a Ruger MK II and a S&W 317 ( 317 is way to pricey for a casual gun, go with theRuger!) I use the 317 because it is the .22 clone of my S&W 642 that I EDC. The .22s are also a lot of fun and lend to a more satisfying session. You will not find the transition to the bigger gun all that difficult. Get a .22, learn how to shoot a handgun and have a bunch of fun at the same time! IMHO you will find that you still have the Ruger long after you have traded to different guns.

Capable? That shows potential harm. They are already doing it. They own and control this country, financially and poitically. Truth be known they own the religions too. Check some independent sources as to the distribution of wealth in this country, it is sickening. I am not a Socialist. Capitalism is based on a viable middle class and we have no middle class anymore. There is an aristocracy and us serfs. Mister Charlie is in the big house and the rest of us (all races) are picking cotton.

“The law means nothing, you don't tellbillionaires what to do. I mean, imagine making these people mad enough to packup EVERYTHING and set up shop in china. China would love to have them and theUS would looking worse than it is.” Wake up. The billionaires have already packed up and set up shop in China. That is a big part of the reason we are in the shape we see today.

I traded my G22 for a G23 just because it is easier to carry. My G22 was a service weapon and I no longer needed a service weapon. The G23 is better suited for me, IMHO, as a personal weapon.

I am very leery of the idea that CCW will prevent or make any difference on "Flash Mobs"events. Once one of these events is in full effect it is nigh onto impossible for the involved observer to be able to pin down the actual person or persons starting the action. Also most of the mob effect is property damage and any personal violence is secondary (collateral effect), this leads to a real problem in proving that bodily harm to any one specific individual was intentional. I am not trying to be legalistic but I am trying to foresee what a jury would think. If you shoot anybody you are going to have to prove to a jury that you were being attacked. Forget the "I don't have to prove anything. They have to prove I didn't have reason to believe imminent danger" theory, I have sat on juries and know they don't buy into that. You will end up having to convince them that you were in the right, regardless of the judges instructions. If your target is a minor you are already probably in deep Kim Chee. Kids act mindlessly and juries are mommies and daddies that accept that . This is the big reason the legal system doesn't pursue it any further, they know it won't hold up in court. The real nightmare is that the witnesses against you, and probably the only witnesses called ,will be members and friends of members of the mob. I really hope you don't think their testimony will help you! Again "beat feet or formally: Discretion is the Better Part of Valor" strategy prevails IMHO.

Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60. I have both. Both are classics and more fun than should be legal!

I find much of the"scripture" about the advantage of the semi-Auto over revolver involves the argument of firepower of 20-30 rounds vs 5-12 rounds in the revolver. Perusing many of the available studies online, including the one below, I find that the National average number of shots per LEO incident by individual officers has leaped from 3 shots per incident to an astounding 4 shots per incident since the advent of the semi-auto as an issue weapon. I also find that the hit probability has stayed remarkably around the same, namely about 20% or 1 hit out of five, regardless of weapon. Studying this data I know understand why I should immediately scrap all of my revolvers and purchase a 16 round semi-auto and three spare magazines if I am to survive a gunfight. I love science! As to shooting multiple shots into a mob of kids, it will earn you a place in history right up there with Charles Whitman and The D.C. Sniper. http://www.theppsc.org/Staff_Views/Aveni/OIS.pdf

80% of Muslims agree - Obama is right for the country!

Careful with this one. Many truly religious Jews believe that they are not supposed to return to Palestine and reform Israel until their Meshach (Messiah) comes to lead them all back at one time. Source for this idea comes from the Old Testament (Tanakh.) They also believe that the Meshach will immediately start rebuilding the Temple on the sight of the original temple and reinstate Temple worship ( follow all of the Laws of Moses.) This is something that the Israelis have shown no interest in whatsoever. In short, a lot of Jews (not just American Jews) do not believe that the nation of Israel today is the promised New Israel of the Bible. They are not erring in their beliefs, they are following them. Judaism and Israel are not interlinked as much as most Christian Americans want to believe. That does not change the fact that Israel is a critical ally of the U.S. and needs our support. Just keep in mind that it is a political entity and not a religious movement. -
Several years ago I had a ND with a Llama .380. It was strictly me, not gun. I had been drinking and got careless, just missed my big toe. I wasn't drunk, just a couple of beers, but it was enough to make me careless. I never handle guns if imbibing now,and I rarely drink anymore. I never carry after drinking. You must always stay alert when handling guns and always assume worst case scenario.

The Agency is American, a Division of McGraw Hill. However it sets its own criteria and is very nebulous in how it spreads out those criteria. Obama didn't do it and neither did George W. This has come about because of the American business groups, piss poor management and too much influence by banks and business on members of Congress. The recent childishness by both parties in the debt ceiling mess didn't help either, but it didn't cause it. Both parties need to sit down to make a realistic long term spending and income plan. Then American business needs to quit outsourcing and skimming off the profits so they can reinvest some capital and create some American jobs. Revenues will come up and we'll get back on our feet. Presidents, of either party, can only sign what is brought to them by Congress. It doesn't matter whether we have a Republican or a Democratic President next term if we don't clean up the Congress.

No large city is safe unless you pick the neighborhoods you visit. Even Nashville has areas that almost guarantee trouble if you visit them. In 30 Years in Marine Corps I visited almost every major city in the U.S. There are areas that are heavily patrolled and are "safer" than other areas in every city. NYC: Times square area Chicago: the" Loop." San Francisco: the Embarcadero New Orleans: pass Los Angeles: pass There are others, but you get the idea. This isn't something new, even in Rome and other ancient cities you had to pick your paths carefully. I felt safer in NYC than I did in New Orleans. When I visit Louisiana I go to Baton Rouge (Love Cajun food!)

Do you teach to "Take up the trigger" or not?
wjh2657 replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Definitely. Teach staging the trigger, checking to make sure you have a good stance, exercise proper breathing and get a proper sight alignment. While you are at it, teach her to scream. If she does all of steps I mentioned (all part of target shooting) she needs to scream because she is probably getting raped. She will have given the BG time to get to her. The LC9 is designed and meant for in close, down and dirty "there is no time for fancy footwork" shooting. Draw, Point, Fire(many times.) Do not teach any time consuming "nice" steps. In a "GunsiteRanch" (I can talk about it, I attended it) type scenario, where all the niceties are practiced, the LC9 would not have been permitted on the range. In it's own environment it is a very fine little tool, but keep the drill simple. -
Where do you live, Buckingham Palace? The longest shot I could make inside my house is from the back hall through the living room and kitchen to the back door and that is only 28 feet. However, I do agree with you , at greater than 10' I will be firing from the shoulder and aiming.

Lately I find myself shopping more and more at Tractor Supply Center (TSC) stores and Lands End on line. They both carry some foreign made things but they are clearly marked and can be avoided. Walmart is a lost cause. The clothes are shoddy and the colors run in the wash. When the big business "bean counters" bought out the small industries and went on their profit binge they got way too hungry for bottom line and could only reach those crazy profits by outsourcing. They also destroyed our small industry base. I keep hoping it will come back.

I spent 30 years active duty in the USMC. I then spent 20 years in the Tennessee State Guard, in direct support of TNARNG units. I went for four tours in VietNam away from my wife and kids. I shake a lot of hands and thank guys for their service. Just a handshake and a few words really boosts morale. If you want to get into active support, check in with the Veterans' groups in your area (American Legion, VFW, Veterans of the Vietnam War, etc.) They have all kinds of projects going and they could probably use help. As a Viet Nam vet, I am glad to see the civilian support our Military is getting.

Guns are not toysthat we bring to "show and tell." Weapon should never have been outof her purse while she was in a public assembly (Legislature) area. Really badpractices and bad judgment in place here. It was not a "non event" justbecause she was a Republican. Bad practices are bad practices, period. If thegun wasn't loaded, she didn't need it in her purse. If it was loaded this was adangerous practice to have it out and handling it in public.

Truly effective stopping power starts at 12 gauge/.308. Anything below that is a compromise. Notice I didn't include any handgun calibers. I carry a .38 Special and I would rather carry a 12 gauge all the time. Hard as heck to hide a Mossberg 500 under a poloshirt! When handgunners, especially those carrying WW1 pistols, talk stopping power they actually mean Relative Stopping Power. Sort of like arguing about whether it hurts more getting by a Toyota or a Buick. Neither hurts as much as a Kenworth 18 wheeler!

I travel to St. Louis twice year to visit my son and my grandkids. His neighbor is a St. Louis LEO, a Detective and his usual greeting is " You are carrying aren't you?" Tennessee HCP is welcome in MO.

I am with you Bronker. I use 5" targets that show hits (splatter) at 10 ,15, and 21 feet. 10' is hip shooting low, below eye line of sight. 15' is one hand, pointshooting at shoulder height and 21 ' is two handed using "quicksight" picture. I shoot daily with a S&W 317 (.22 LR) and once a week with my 642 (.38 spcl.) Shooting a full race service sized pistol slowly at 25 Yards at a paper target and shooting a BG rushing you in the dark of a room or parking lot is two different events entirely. I fired team match forover 30 years and I was and I am still pretty good at that range with a target/service weapon. But ripping a snubby out of my pocket and stopping an assailant up close is where I am at now. The secret here, as has been stated already, is to put max metal on target, fast and in the area that hurts. Small groups are not desirable. If you pick the wrong area of the target, you will just be sending more lead into an ineffective wound area. A 4-5" group is far more desirable as it will hit several critical areas.

P*** poor police work. (Retrieval of remains and burial area investigation really sucked.) PP forensics work. Too many "it smelled likes" and not enough chemical analysis reports. No firm cause of death. No firm time of death. No firm date of death! No way of directly tying mother to crime due to above. Stupidity by prosecutor in trying for First Degree Murder conviction based on above. There were probably many things they could have tried her for, but not for murder! Was she involved, h*** yeah, and lied about it too. But there remains reasonable doubt as to whether she actually killed the little girl herself and that was what they tried her for. They left a sane jury no choice but to acquit for lack of evidence. Also, too many people reaching for ropes around here after a few drinks at the saloon. I have served on juries and it is a lot easier to find somebody guilty in front of a TV with a couple of beers than it is to try to sift through the evidence and testimony in a real court case. The prosecution really screwed this one up, and the worst thing is that they didn't even realize it. They were shocked at the verdict (as was "super prosecutor" , Nancy Grace.) They tried her for being a lousy mother (good chance that charge was right) but they never proved her to be a murderer. Nothing wrong with justice system. System worked, prosecutors fell down on the job. They should have tried her on lesser charges or waited until they had firm evidence to start proceedings.

I saw and handled this gun at Antlers and Feathers the other day. Did you validate the Mauser manufacture? I didn't see any of the appropriate proof marks or inspectors marks on it for German manufacture. Even during the war they were fanatical about marks on the guns.
