  1. Step 1: Repeal 17thamendment. Give state legislatures a voice back in government. Step 2: Don’t send anybody back after a second term. Step 3: Run Independents at State and Local level. Step 4: Voters need to read and understand Constitution and then insist elected representatives follow it! The two parties we have now have been bought off and are too firmly entrenched in Washingtonto budge them as parties. BUT, we can send them people they can’t control! With real Representatives in the House, real State Senators in the Senate and State governments under heavy local pressure to not toady up to Federal parties we could get some control back. The whole problem is that. from the beginning (1840-present) we sat back and have allowed the two parties to control us.
  2. Pretty much dead on!
  3. If I ever have to reduce my collection, it will always include a Mossberg 500A, a Marlin 60, a S&W revolver and a Ruger MKII. The classics remain the classics!
  4. This is inane. Trump is an utra-wealthy Republican. He will not get Democratic votes. I am a conservative, liberatrian independent (according to latest stats we make up 41% of electorate) and I sure as hell won't vote for him. Republicans will vote for him because he is flashy, filthy rich and a media super star. Run one of the two women (Bachman or Palin) as VP to get the good old boys hormones going and he will pull down a lot of Republican votes. If he just promises to shoot all the gays, deport all of the hispanics and let us keep our guns, he might even get to be President. Of course what he would do after getting in office would be a disaster, but all the voters are looking for are the right promises. I am really worried about this election. I don't want OBama back and all the Republicans are offering are lousy choices for the oval office. Worst of all, the American voter blindly follows party lines and is incapable of individual thought, which rules Independent Candidates out.
  5. A libertarian does not have to be a member of the Republican Party (or for that matter, the Democratic Party either.) Point made.
  6. If you believe that Liberalism alone is the problem, you are a Progressive, Crony-Capitalist and are part of the problem, not part of the solution. We need to be rid of both Liberal and Mercantile (Crony-Capitalism) methodologies . We need free market Capitalism and true conservatism to prevail in our government. Way too many Progressives wandering around with a phony Conservative label on them. We can identify the Liberals and deal with them but the Progressive Republicans are just as big a threat to our liberty and are very well hidden. Corporate welfare or Social welfare, both are welfare and are thieves of our money. As long as we blindly follow party lines (Democratic or Republican) instead of looking hard at the Individuals we are doomed to be taken by the confidence men of the "Washington Mob".
  7. The arrogance in believing that no Republican should ever be critical of another Republican because the Party is always right is the biggest reason I left the party after 40+ years and became an Independent. I am a Conservative, and the Republican Party is not.The party is progressive and strictly pro- Corporate Welfare. The Democrats are strictly progressive in favor of Public Welfare. Ron and Rand Paul and a very few other Republicans and Democrats are still Conservatives. Both parties, in general, are enemies of the Conservative movement. We will not see improvement until we repeal the Seventeenth Amendment, giving states a say-so outside of party affiliations, and purge the Congress. How do we purge the Congress? Don’t send anybody back! With all new people it will be confusing at first, but confusion still isn’t as bad as the mess we have now. Break all of the special interest holds on our politicians. They will return to corrupt the new people, but we can do the flip-flop again. I really believe that this is the “Revolution” that Thomas Jefferson said we needed every ten years. The Political Parties are “Business Organizations” and have ceased to exist as representatives. The Permanent Politician Class (PPC) has to be broken up in D.C. or we just keep sailing along into an oppressive and chaotic oligarchy.
  8. I am a big Amazon customer (collect DVDs and I have 120 + books on my Kindle) so I feel your pain. A clue: if it tracks to Southhaven, MS, it has entered a black hole never to return to our universe in your lifetime. I dread that place coming up on a track, because I know I am facing up to two months for the delivery. My postmaster told me that shipments arriving there are treated same as dead mail and put on a pallet/in a bin and held to the bin or pallet is full before transhipping.
  9. Before I switched to revolvers I had a BERSA Thunder and a Walther PPK. BERSA was actually the more accurate and more reliable of the two. The BERSA was a lot easier to shoot too. Regardless of the price I like the BERSA more. I got rid of the Walther and carried the BERSA. I sold the BERSA when I bought my J Frames, but I would have no reservations about carrying one again. I believe that the BERSAs are one of the biggest gun bargains out there.
  10. I carry Hornady 125 gr XTP/JHP standard pressure rounds in my snubbies. It penetrates well, has manageable recoil and is super accurate in my guns (637,642,640 and 60) I have a buddy that carries the 158 gr version of the same round and he is very happy with it. I used to carry Federal Nyclads until they went strictly LEA (They are now available again, but I am happy with what I have,) In my 686 2 1/2" I carry real fire belcher +Ps of several different types but the little guns require specific ammo for ease of handling,
  11. "Look Officer, I just shot this scumbag but I have a Tennessee HCP so you have to give me my gun back" Try the above and then write and let me know how it turned out!
  12. What in the Sam Hill does an HCP have to do with any of this? The scenario was set to take place in your home, no permit involved. Also, an HCP is a permit to carry, not a permit to use. Once you shoot somebody you are in a whole different ball came than the carry game. You are just like anybody else who shoots somebody, you are a suspect and your weapon is evidence. No warrant, actual crime suffices for action, gun goes in evidence box in back shelf of evidence locker. You are not automatically authorized to shoot somebody because you have an HCP. Castle Doctrine does not give you immunity from criminal prosecution and or attendant investigation. CD gives you a viable defense argument in court or for Grand Jury Indictment. HCP means you didn't break another law by just having the gun, away from your home.If at home, HCP is non issue.
  13. Kieefer said: "We have to fill the house and senate with representives that have conservative views and weed out these socialists. " I agree with Kieefer mainly because he used the "little c" word. The Conservatives, "big C" word, are not, by any stretch of the imagination, conservatives. Both parties are Welfare parties. One is for Public Welfare and the other is for Corporate Welfare. Neither is going to stop giving away tax money to their cronies. Mike.357said: "I will quit before voting for Newt. He is exactly what brought the country to this point." I agree with Mike.357 because Newt is a douche bag professional bandit. He doesn't need the media to point that out, his own actions in the past shout it out. Ron Paul is a true conservative (little c word) and neither party wants one of those"nut jobs" floating around invoking the Constitution and building a sensible but profit cutting government.
  14. Dr. Paul's policy is for us to keep our nose out of foreign political affairs and stop trying to be the "Emperors of the World". Instead of our boys dying, let theirs die and make money out of selling them the weapons to kill each other with. Pretty much what Washington, Madison and Jefferson told us to do.
  15. LEAs do not normally issue receipts for evidence. You are a suspect in a crime investigation, they are not responsible to you for whatever evidence they collect. Property rights go to the winds when that property becomes evidence. If a FT/CSI team ( less than 500 LEAs in the U.S. have FT/CSIs) is involved your weapon will be inventoried and logged before it even leaves your house (still no receipt though). If the Investigators is a detective or Uniform Officer, your weapon is going into his trunk in a plastic baggy. Hopefully he makes a note when he gets back to the station and records the conditions of seizure before he turns it into the evidence locker. Usually no search warrant is required on an active crime scene. If you argue with them for a receipt or start screaming that you are going to sue them you will probably end up charged on the scene for impeding the investigation. Just shut up, do what they say and buy another gun later. Once the case is resolved you can start proceedings to get your weapon back, but at best, it will be awhile (years.) It will probably cost you more in lawyer fees than the gun is worth. No receipts, sorry.
  16. I would and will, if chance permits, vote for Ron Paul. I am afraid that is not going to happen because Dr. Paul follows the Jeffersonian principles of the Constitution and the entire remaining political structure follows the Hamiltonian system. As a people we lost this argument in 1896 (end of Grover Cleveland's Presidency) and I don't think Dr. Paul can dig it out of the trenches. it is a crying shame, it would have been an interesting change in the country!
  17. Strictly a lawyer question. Like most gun-related matters there are no nice neat one sentence answers. Those who quote one part of the law are like those who quote one Bible verse and then say “so says the word of the Lord”, they are only scratching the surface and are totally out of the picture. My legal beagle informs me that it will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and also by size of jurisdiction. If you know the local sheriff or police chief, chances are good that you will get your gun back with a minimum of hassle. If you live in a large city, you are in a world of trouble. Most large cities will require a court order to get the weapon back, regardless of circumstances. It is evidence and therefore the jurisdiction’s property now. Charges being dropped against you does not necessarily mean that the case is closed. In a homicide the case may be kept open until all avenues of investigation are done ( i.e.why was he in your house, did you know him previous to the shooting, was this part of a string of break-ins , thus an open case?) any and all of these could require all evidence be kept. To you it is “open and shut” but a larger LEA will rarely see it that way. Also charges being dropped does not mean you are not still a suspect, therefore again evidence will be kept. Usually, once anything goes into an evidence box, it has entered a black hole, never to see the light of day again (This is not inevitable, just “worse case” scenario) Really, in this case, the best thing that could happen ifyou really want weapon back is for a trial to occur and you be found not guilty ( there is no ”innocent” in law) which would close case and give you legal justification to file to retrieve your weapon with a court order. Either way it is going to cost more for a lawyer than your gun is worth (unless it is a platinum plated and diamond encrusted Kimber! Which of course will no longer be in the Evidence box!) so you may just be better off with a new gun. Although I have never had weapon go into evidence, I was held up at gun point in Chicago many years ago and l had a wallet full of money and credit cards go into evidence. The culprit was caught but not charged due to a discrepancy on part of the arresting officer. But since he was not tried in court, the case is still considered open. My wallet and money are still in the evidence box at the Chicago PD evidence room. (Yes, I did try to get it back, for some family pictures in the wallet, and no go.) BTW, I have a S&W 637 to back up my 642 if it is ever confiscated. I also have two Mossberg 500 to back up loss of the house SD.)
  18. You haven't bought a cup in a while have you?
  19. While the Second Constitutional Convention was meeting the French revolution was getting underway. By the time the new “Constitutional Congress” met in 1789, aristocrats were being hung and decapitated in France by the public mobs. Many of our founding fathers had good friends among the unfortunates being executed. Some of the most prominent founding fathers had lived in France (Thomas Jefferson, John Adams,John Quincy Adams and Benjamin Franklin, among them) and were actually quite attached to the Aristocracy of France. Shay’s Rebellion and several other violent public uprisingshad occurred in this country during this same time period and had to be putdown by troops. All of this led to distrust by the ruling elite for the “Masses”(meaning the public, in short, most of us.) Go to www.walthofman.com and read it in their own words ( The Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers). They wrote the Constitution to contain and prevent Democracy not to further it. The“Mob Rule” as they had seen in France later confirmed to them that they had made the right decision. The Insurrection Act (1807) laid down the ground work and is now part of U.S. Law even today as 10 USC 333. The incorporation of the provisions of this act into the Appropriation Bills (which become Public Law) is a move to make sure that using troops within the U.S. can be financed with some legal basis (President’s actions are in accordance with “an act of Congress” as stated in para. 2( of 10 USC 333). This incorporation has been going on for several decades now, so we have actually been living “under the gun” for quite awhile. We are currently in a period of public unrest, with public demonstrations increasing. The government ( read: the two political parties) is going to tighten its hold on the “unwashed masses” to prevent civil interference with the government.
  20. I have to pass through Illinois to get to my son and grandchildren in St. Louis. EDC is in COM Gun safe in trunk with a laminated copy of the Illinois state police brochure (available online) under the safe. If stopped, LEO can read brochure ( not all are trained in handgun transportation laws) and see right then that I am in compliance with illinois law. Don't hold your breath on Illinois going to handgun carry permit. All of the Supreme Court Decisions had to do with gun in home and nothing said about 2d Amendment and right to carry. As it stands right now, according to USSC, Illinois is not in violation of Second Amendment. How we read it isn't what makes it law, what the USSC says does make it law. I read it to say we are allowed to have our weapon with us wherever we go, but what the USSC says is what would put me in prison if I did carry in Illinois. I might be morally right but not legally right. Morally right and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee!
  21. If all I have is a Democrat that I don't want and a Republican that I don't want, I'll vote, for all other offices and leave the Presidential blocks blank or vote for an Independent. BTW I am 68 years old and voted Republican for over 40 years. Just can't buy the BS from either party anymore. What they say they will do and what we know from past experience they will do are exact opposites. I vote as an American, for America, not for a super corporation disguised as a political party and that description fits both parties.
  22. The post is about Gingrich, not OBama or Biden. I am a conservative Independent and wouldn't vote for Obama so he is a non-issue. Excusing Gingrich's major blunders by pointing to the oppositions' flaws is not going to get it in this election. The Republican Party needs to forget OBama bashing and come up with a viable Conservative candidate as a solution, not as the least of two evils! IMHO, Independent voters will not go for Gingrich.
  23. Newt has made too many gaffes in too many areas (political/personal/media)to beat the odds. I can't take Cain serious! Ron Paul has the right ideas. The problem is that Dr. Paul wants to follow the Constitution and everything we do now is unconstitutional. That includes the strangle hold on the electorate by the two political parties. Without repealing the Seventeenth Amendment and going back to the Constitutional method for selecting Senators, (giving state governments some control back in government),reversing Marbury vs Madison (doing away with judicial review), pulling out of the International Police Force (actually having a national defense force per the Constitution), disband the Federal Reserve and revising the tax code (or repeal the Sixteenth Amendment if we can't write an equitable code) it doesn't matter who is President. It will still be the same corrupt business as usual. We need to be a strong nation, as the Founding Fathers intended, and not a weak and toppling empire!
  24. Dr. Paul is pretty much a Jeffersonian in political and economic philosophy. The Jeffersonians went out of power under John Adams and have only had short flashes of return to power ( Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson and Grover Cleveland ) and lost all power and influence at the Democratic Convention in 1896, when the Democratic Party also adopted the Hamiltonian “Strong Central Bank and strong Central Government” platform (witness the current Democratic President’s Central Government actions). I also tend to be Jeffersonian, although I am a Centrist Conservative. The problem for Dr. Paul is that he is “El Lobo” (a lone wolf ) and will never be accepted or supported by the mainstream Hamiltonian parties. If he did get elected he could accomplish nothing with the Congress, which would fight him all the way (as directed by their Corporate masters), and this includes both parties. After almost two centuries of Hamiltonian control by the wealthy elite we just have to recognize that we ( the common people) do not control or even really influence our Federal government. It is also unlikely that we ever will. I really respect Dr, Paul for his courage and spirit but I am very afraid that he is jousting at windmills. There were two groups at the writing of the Constitution and the one representing the Elite Classes won. The Constitution was written and has been interpreted to give us the exact Federal Government we have. The "Strong Central Government" side won and thereby won the control by the Elite. “The People” in the Declaration of Independence” were “Free-holders, which were White, Land-owning (wealthy), Protestant men (no women!) These are ”The People” that the Constitution has come to protect. Almost all of the Bill of Rights has been made powerless by the infamous clauses of the Preamble and Section One of the main body of the Constitution ( placed there under the Hamilton faction’s pressure). Dr. Paul cannot change that. God Bless him for trying though. Those that don't follow what I am saying need to take some time and read the real story behind the forming of our government. Do your own research or go to the site in my signature. All of the documents, explaining both sides' agenda, by the founding fathers in their own words are there. They are without any outside political comments and you can make your own decisions after reading them.

    worst rifle ever!

The problem with the Springfield 1873 was the ammo, not the rifle. Once the switch was made from copper cases to brass the problem went away. My grandfather had inherited a Spanish-American War National Guard issue Model 1873. We loaded new brass with black powder and lead bullets and it functioned very well. It wasn't the most accurate gun I ever fired but it was very reliable. My worst rifle was a shortened Ross .303 rifle my grandfather bought for me to use on a Canadian hunt. It was a modified military issue rifle, not the Civilian model. It was a real a real nightmare if you didn't clean it every day. It also froze up (literally) in the cold weather of Moosejaw. It was a straight-pull bolt so you didn't have the "torque"of the turning handle to break loose the ice. I understand that the Canadian troops turned them in for British Enfields on the battlefield.
