  1. Thought you folks might want to know of a new book that just came out a couple weeks ago- 'Lights Out', by Ted Koppel. http://www.amazon.com/Lights-Out-Cyberattack-Unprepared-Surviving/dp/055341996X This is not a work of fiction, but an investigation into the likelihood of hackers or foreign nations targeting the power grid of the US in an act of cyber warfare, and what might happen if they were to succeed. It's timely- we've all heard about the hacking into of various banks, Target, Sony Pictures, and OPM- not a stretch to think it could happen to the power companies. He interviews members of our govt., from Homeland Security, to congress, various business leaders, etc. as well as people from the church of LDS and others. I enjoyed reading One Second After, so I was interested in this book- I had some 'airplane time' last week, and powered through it. It is well written, well researched, and worrisome. You'll see just how vulnerable the grid is, and how ill-prepared the .gov and power companies are if it were to ever happen - if you didn't already know. It's creepy going from a work of fiction like One Second After to a work of 'investigative non-fiction' like this, and finding them so eerily similar. Koppel does reference One Second After in a few places in this book. I don't remember what kind of politics Ted had while on the news, but this book is very objective and middle-of-the-road politically, which I appreciated. It's worth the $20- I recommend checking it out.
  2. Argh.....I like Cabelas so much more than Bass Pro. That sucks.
  3. We've camped there for years, and I've never seen atv's there. I dont doubt that there are trails in the area though. I'm sure they didn't want to or couldn't afford to change the sign when the gun/carry laws were updated.
  4. The sign at the front of the park says no firearms, no alcohol, no atvs.
  5. Don't forget to send a few bucks to NRA-ILA, guys.
  6. Are you sure? It looked like they were behind the last I checked.......
  7. Anytime a politician uses the phrase 'common sense', I know it's all B.S. and I tune out.
  8. Great, thanks for the clarification folks!
  9. I'm doing a little reading about reloading .40 S&W, and there are warnings in the Hodgdon Manual about only loading for those firearms that fully support the cartridge in the chamber.   I've seen mentions of supported vs. unsupported chambers in my light research on various forums as well.  I'm a little confused though-  what exactly is a supported vs. unsupported chamber?   Is there more to it than a .40 cal is a .40 cal?
  10. I've started to believe the same thing.  It's almost got to be fixed somehow.  Tin foil, and all.
  11. Bingo. edited to add, I like dogs and cats. I've had cats that were better than lots of people I've met.
  12. I went around 130. Made a lap, then said hi to David and grabbed some powder and left. I think there were more pocketknives than anything.
  13. The report I saw said they were stopping selling them because no one was buying them. Perhaps because everyone that ever wanted one bought one (or six) within the last 2 years, and the market is flooded.
  14. Check livelink. It was up earlier today.
  15. Have fun. Mineral spirits, turpentine, repeat. Etc.
  16. Thats funny right there.....
  17. I've always loved shotgun sports. Just getting my son involved in ATA- he just shot his first match this weekend at Maury Co., and he's pumped!
  18. They were also careful to add that it was an AR15 'assault rifle', and that the guy had been to a local range "where anyone could show up and fire weapons, whether they had a license or not". Good grief. Facts just dont make good news, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
  19. Hey folks- thought I'd ask here in the event any of you has any ideas about how I might do this. My garage has become too hot to work in, and I need to change that. I have a good window AC unit that I'm not using that I can easily plug in and run, but what I'm struggling with is how to vent the hot air coming out of the unit to the outside. I cant figure out any way to do that without opening the garage door partway, which would negate anything I'd gain by running the unit in the first place. Anyone ever do anything like this, or have any ideas how I might vent that hot exhaust air to the outside? Thanks
  20. Yep. As the old saying goes, gun control is not as much about guns as it is about control. Politicians prefer disarmed subjects.
  21. Depends. Time is money.
  22. Thats interesting- my experience has always been the exact opposite.
  23. Sorry, I should have updated. I carried there in January. ..no postings, no issues.
  24. Thats my 'home range' and I try to say hello to Charlie whenever I go. He's helped me out several times too. Great guy.
